No matter how you feel when you hear a song like this early in life, it can't be the same as hearing it many decades later, after you've experienced this kind of thing for yourself. For a song that you loved as a young adult or even as a child to come back to you and capture your own experiences later on, it's chilling. It also shows that almost no experience, no heartache or loss, is so far removed from everyone else that it hasn't been written or sung about before. Humans are imperfect creatures, and new generations can't change that. This song now makes me tear up in a way it just couldn't back when I heard it for the first time all those years ago. Lorrie Morgan sings so beautifully here.
I love this song and video. Lorrie's voice is fabulous. But what brought me back to this video tonight is the passing of Kris Kristofferson. He looked so handsome in this video. You were a great talent, Kris...🙏♥️

We had this album when I was a kid, and my mom used to play it for me a lot on the way to take me to school or just in the car in general. This would’ve been around 1995 or so. I know the album came out in 1992, but I’m talking about when I would’ve first heard it. We listened to it a lot around then. Everytime this song would come on, I’d choke up. Even as a small kid, I somewhat got what the song was about. I don’t know if I could understand it was a breakup of persay, but I could sense that it was about loss of some sort. I didn’t catch all the words then, but I caught enough to sense the sadness and regret in the song. Eventually, mom made me a cassette copy of the album, as that was my only means at the time of listening to music in my own room. Now that I have experienced break-up’s in my own life, some of which were where where they found someone else, this song is even more chilling now, and hits me even more profoundly. That’s why I love real country music, because it’s about real life.
Same here, my mom was a fan of Lorrie and I believe my dad got her the cassette for Christmas 1992. I remember the tape was purple and the outer case got all scratched up from being in the car so much. This song was always a bit too sad for me…even at 12-13 I got that it was about their marriage falling apart. I loved “Watch Me” and “Half Enough.” Definitely takes me back to the early 90s when I was in junior high.
I liked “Someone to Call me Darlin’” and “From Our House to Yours” also. Everytime I hear this album, it takes me back to my childhood in 95, being six years old. That was just a happy and special time in my life in general. The 90’s and early 2000’s before my grandfather on my dad’s side passed away, was such a special time for me. Ahhhh yessss, the 90s. Nothing like it. Even all these years later, Lorrie's voice still gives me chills. I truly believe with the right songs, she could totally come back to the country music scene, and people (who didn't know 90s artists) would just think she's brand new.... her voice is just timeless. My favorite will always be "If You Came Back From Heaven" dedicated to the love of her life, another amazing singer, Keith Whitley. She grieved for such a long time, I just don't think she could ever really revive her career. Not from lack of voice & talent, but from overwhelming emotion she just couldn't control on stage..They were madly in love and just another great one lost too soon. The song is obviously about lovers, but parts of it will always make me think of my 21yr old son that passed away. I haven't heard anything about her in years, but I pray wherever she is, she's happy & at peace. ♡♡

What I love about the song is the play on 'I guess you had to be there'. The first implication being that you had to be there to see the couple; that they'd 'drifted apart' and then that he 'had to be there' because he no longer loved her, & had found someone new.
