The items I sell are not that expensive so I don't worry about it too much *BUT* what I do is. Vacation mode even if I'm going away a couple of days and I even add an extra day. This gives me a chance to get myself together and unpack relax etc when I get back... You don't want to come home run to the computer and start packing up sales. (someone actually showed a video like that.) GIVE YOURSELF A BREAK. if not you will burnout. Relax and smell the roses. :)

I don't know if it's just happening to me or something I've done wrong. I put my store on vacation twice and came back to a big mess. My shipping method gets messed up. Not the handling time. The 3rd vacation I just turned off my store and hid my listings. Going on vacation in the future. Getting ready to sit down and see if it's updated or if I oversee something. Great channel!
I went on vacation and put it on vacation mode. That should take care of it. Every single customer says it didn't say it on the auction. I called eBay, they told me to bad, its my problem. eBay will screw the seller every chance they get!
This happened to me. I put my store on vacation for a week and thought that would adjust my handling time automagically. When I got back I shipped out 52 items. I noticed later that I lost my top rated status and was pissed. Turns out vacation mode does absolutely nothing! 27 of my items were counted as shipped late. I didn't figure I had to adjust the handling time since I put in vacation mode. Not one of my customers was upset at all but still lost my top rated status. Ironically I am the fastest shipper on ebay!

I have put my store on vacation a few times....the first time I did the hide and block...it took me almost a week for me to get any sales once I returned....after that I just increased my handling time to 5 or 10 days...if you get back earlier you can always ship your items and change the handling time back. I also email my buyers to remind them that we are away and the item will ship on whatever day...I haven't had any problems doing that....It worked really well when we moved from Macon to FL.

From what I understand, these instructions are specifically for sellers who have an actual ebay STORE--not those of us just selling our stuff on ebay. :-/

I am heading out tomorrow and if I just tried to go set this myself without first checking to see how yous pros do it I would be probably get in hot water with ebay or worse my customers! Make sure you extend handling time...vacation mode isn't enough

Casey, I wish that I'd seen your video prior to vacationing. I followed the instructions on the ebay page, and contacted every buyer while away to let them know when their item would ship, and was still dinged for late shipping. If they are going to count it against us, then they should put the required changes in the instruction box. It was an hour on the phone today with three different people to find out what I really needed to do. Your six minute video would have saved me the trouble. So my next question is: Will ebay ding us for having such a long handling time? It seems like when one issue is resolved, another crops up. It's really a steep learning curve on all of this. Thank you for all that you do!

Adjust the handling time period. Vacation mode is useless (if the box is not checked). I learned it the hard way. Top Rated Seller badge and discount was hard to earn back, took me 7 months to get it back again.

yeah but then you need to adjust the handling time by everyday passing by, if for the first day of holiday will be 8 days dispatch time, next day will be 7 days dispatch time and so on
Right decrease it daily so your sales can pickup near the end of vacation

well thats a pain you won't even enjoy your vscation if you're going in an adjusting it every day. I would just leave it. It's not that serious. I like vacation mode. Never had a problem with it.

In May, I had a watcher buy my item, while I was on vacation mode. However, ebay gave them the message that I would return on such and such date, and would mail on that date! I was panicking, before I saw that!

Thanks for this video! Since eBay doesn't count weekends as shipping days, if I'm leaving on a Friday for 2 weeks, I don't have to count the weekend days for handling time, correct? So it would be 11 days of handling time vs. 15 days? I'm sure higher handling time equals less sales, so those 4 days would help, especially as I get closer to returning. Thanks!

Maybe your video should have gone all the way to the part where you go through each of your shipping policies, changing them one at a time every day of your vacation. Unless you know a way to do them bulk.
Your right I should have went a bit farther, but its doable in the bulk edit screen
I have a store but my mom doesn't. I can see the vacation settings option on my account, but the option is missing on hers. I'm assuming you have to have a store to be able to set your account on vacation.
True story. Year before last I was doing mostly auctions. I don't have a big store but was getting several orders a week. I literally loaded the car with the things that were on auction and going off before I could get back to ship in time. How STOO-pid!

I shipped all but one who never did paid. (a 30 lb statuette) :-)But I decided after that to get a store sub so I could have a vacation status. Lol. Going on vacation soon and I WON'T be hauling ebay orders with me. But alas...I'm STILL STOO-pid. :-) PS. Good video :-)

Just move your handling time up, no store needed to do that. Store is for vacation mode but you dont have to do that.

bulk handling time for ebay is no longer there. Any idea how to edit the handling time for every item at once?
its there... select all items, then click bulk edit.. then select them all and click HANDLING TIME.. its on mine

Same option just make your handling time 14/15 days whatever it is you need

How do you increase the handling time?
bulk edit... go to ACTIVE LISTINGS...Then select all the ones you want to edit and click "EDIT SELECTED". Once the bulk edit screen is open, select all......then at the top choose "handling time" and change it.. OR you can edit 1 at a time if you wish
I went on vacation and alowwed customers to buy so option 2 and now ebay is telling me that I will get dinged for each item in my metrics.
If you didnt set your handling time higher and just put up the message that dosnt stop you from having to ship, thats why I would either HIDE EVERYTHING, and not get sales, OR increase your handling time that way your safe
So what happens when you have best offer and someone does an offer on the item and you are in vacation and can't reply to the offer.
Offer expires and they dont buy it
Can I use option 3 if I'm going somewhere for a month?
Handling time maxes out at 30 days, so you would have to be back to ship by day 31
If you have your listing as GTC, then just update all quantity to 0.
