I’m from Costa Rica and 12 years ago I moved to Jasper. Lived and worked there for almost 5 years. This is the place where I made some of my best memories of my life , friends and where I also met the love of my life. Breaks my heart to see what’s happening to a place I once called home.
Stay strong but most importantly, stay safe.

As teens, my best friend and I hitchhiked across Canada to spend the summers of 1971 and 1972 camped beside the pristine Athabasca River. The town of Jasper meant so much to us and changed our lives forever. I'm heartbroken.

There are many deficiencies that need to be corrected.
For one, you can't have someone from another part of the country making uninformed decisions about our National Parks. Nature doesn't work that way. Give a local body more authorty when working with a national body regarding risk management in our national parks.

They became part of the landscape to the point where regular visitors just didn’t notice them anymore. Obviously they added to the intensity of the fire.

Are we all going to ignore the unsurprising occurrence of someone typing right wing rhetoric also calling them "Indians"?
Or consider that there is no way anyone ever cleared and managed a million square miles of forest or even the fraction of that which is populated and park land.
If you want brush clearing and controlled burns, then go ahead and petition the government to spend the billions of dollars to get that done, and accept the tax increase needed to find that money, or the national debt consequences.
And prepare for the consequences when a decent percentage of controlled burns get out of control causing more of these situations.
