Man I would love to have Teresa come on this program to understand her motives and who she was after your fathers death. I also do not think you can blame yourself for how you were at the time you were still a kid basically who lost his dad with an entire organization on your shoulders while carrying the impossible legacy of your dad.

I think Theresa is vastly misunderstood. Think of the grief and pain she had to set aside to keep DEI going.... not to say anyone is perfect or handles things well... but it's all she had left of Sr. after his passing. As people we tend to hold onto those things too tight, not sharing our pain and doing our best to be strong in the weakest part of our life when we lose the people that mean everything to us. The fans and media have shown her very little empathy to her loss and what she went through. I try to give people the benefit of the doubt esp. when I have no way of knowing... as a fan it's easy to demonize someone we want to believe wronged our hero than believe that there were wrongs on all sides... but hell, what do I know?

Getting things out in the open and even if you have to ask for forgiveness for something that was overlooked can be a great relief even after many years as you guys have experienced with this show... I find it refreshing to see adults come together and air it out a little...

I loved DEI and when Park got in the 1 car I was elated. I was a Dale Sr fan and when he started DEI it was like the stars were aligning to be something spectacular. Honestly I was Team DEI until Dale Jr went to Hendrick. DEI was a powerhouse for sure.

@@dcooper91g I completely agree with you. After Sr died Jr was never the same and understandably so. Just the grieving process alone had to be tough with the race schedule and everything being public. The entire company was at a loss. No one knew what to do or think other than off to the next track. Jr was still pretty young at the time and his drinking seemed to ramp up even more, again I get it. I really wish he would have taken some time off to allow himself time to grieve and get his head right before getting back in the car. All of this before the infighting with the Eury's and before the wicked witch of the south did anything and everything she could to run the team into the ground.

I always did. The Hendrick ride is a completely different story all together. 2014 and the Amelia days. Son that car was bad fast. I like watch the 04 500 and 14 500 back to back. Another thing to consider, and the reason why I love this podcast is because there were so many of us fans who were sad to see DEI fall apart. The biggest time of my Nascar fandom was because of DEI, the first Nascar race I ever went to was the 2001 Pepsi 400 that Jr and DEI won. The whole RAD alliance carried them for a few years and made those restrictor plate races must see TV and to this day that was the best restrictor plate racing there was. I wish there had been more wins at other tracks but even then Jr led a lot of races just didn't finish there. 2002- 2004 Jr led 22, 24,and 19 races.

Reality is a matter of perception is what I believe key to keep in mind.
No doubt about it, the courage to not just recount yourself but hold yourself accountable during the times of such tremendous loss is certainly admirable.
In my mind this act is the most noble.
I wouldn’t listen to one word of shame towards the situation.
I believe these sessions are what heals.
My trust is vested with the individuals who are not perfect, but flawed. The ones who have made mistakes and learned from them. They fully own them and they hold themselves accountable to have learned from them.
These are the people I count as salt of the earth. They understand imperfections and how important the human spirit is.
If they can find the energy to choose to be leaders, I believe they hold the keys to be builders of those fortunate enough to be around them.
In my mind the most skillful trade anyone can possess, is the art of building up those that come in contact with them.
There is nothing more gratifying in life than being placed in a situation completely over your head and not only surviving it, but thriving in the moment.
For myself I’ve been blessed enough to be on the receiving end of this dynamic. I feel compelled to try my best to be that for another.
This is why I keep following this program. It is no doubt witnessing good medicine working.
Nothing beats reality. Through this the possibilities feel endless. These times can not get enough of this

Those stories connect us with those who achieve the upper echelon goals in life - "Damn, this guy who is on >this whatever high level in their life that pukes them into the public eye< goes through the horssh!t that I do in mine". Idk why he feels so responsible for the race outcome. He has been hollering for a few years about how the cars need to be changed and if it wasn’t for Dale Jr and his passion for the track it would be condos or a strip mall by now! He breathed new life into the place and should be PROUD of the outcome!

I think Jr. Should do a segment on NBC where he surprise visits a hand full of owners of the 8 Chevy Monte Carlo passenger car! My neighbor had both the 8 and 3! That car made NASCAR so relatable and fun to see on the streets

My only issue with DEI is how it ended up in Teresa's control. DEI should have gone to Junior and Kelley's possession instead of hers.

She said it all when she told him he wanted to be a PR man more than he wanted to be a driver. You can look back all you want but the biggest threat to Jr’s success was Jr himself. He ran Tony off from the team and that pretty much ended the 8. Truex was outrunning him at the end.

Hard to tell where DEI would be today, doubtful Sr would have failed but seems like the days of big manufacturers/teams like Childress, Yates, Hendrick, Roush & Gibbs are memories of how it use to be .. DEI lead the way for the drivers to own their own teams and folks who had similar goals followed suit (Tony Stewart in particular) feel like there’s a lot if tradition missing on race day
