Exactly, I mean i get that some people won't like that feature so i would add a option to turn it off. But if they want to call it a "simulator" they probably should add random issues with your car.
At least make it a setting where you could turn on something like “random car failures”. So if u don’t want it happening to you it could be turned off or if you only want the ai to be affected, you could switch that on. Feel kinda odd winning races bc the AI’s get an engine failure
James Dougherty Last season Vettel and I were teammates at Ferrari and the car was a second a lap quicker than the rest. From Singapur on Vettel had 4 punctures until the end of the season.
A lot of people seem to mis-interpret what Simulation means in this context. There will never be a F1 simulator game. How can you simulate what it feels like to be a F1 driver? The hours and hours of training, conditioning, reflexes, fitness. It's impossible. How can you simulate the intricacies of a 100,000 dollar steering wheel the drivers use through some logitech wheel or a control pad. You can't. Codemasters, IMHO, are making F1 2018 game a better simulation OF THE SPORT. I.e the AI, the handling, presentation, chassis and suspension behaviour, tyre technology, so on. They're not making a simulator for how it feels to drive an F1 car. Same analogy - would you call FIFA a "football simulator?". It's a football game. It doesn't simulate running around playing football on a professional level. There are very few select circumstances where a game can be a simulator, and it normally depends on the equipment you use and your own personal circumstances [i.e how much money you are willing to throw at a setup] Unless you're sat there in a hydraulically actuated rig, latest VR gear on your head, surround sound and so on you're still miles off. Whether it's rFactor or F1 2018 or whatever, doesn't matter. Bottom line - chill the hell out and enjoy the game and stop worrying about the extent to which something is a simulator or not. You want a decent simulation of what it's like to drive an F1 car? Go do a Ford Open Formula track day and drive an actual open wheeler around a track.
Adam Lechocki I race go-karts professionally and also play Assetto Corsa with my 400$ Thrustmaster T300 on a single monitor. A good sim racing game like AC, RF, RF2, or iRacing do a very good job teaching you the physics of a kart and how they handle. They also give you a chance to race on laser scanned versions of the tracks that you are racing next week. The problem with Codies F1 games is that the physics aren't good, handling is far off from reality, the A.I is garbage, and you can't play online without getting punted off the track.
When people talk about a simulation they refer to the ingame physics. No need to boust big words. You know what people think when mentioning a simulaton.. What u mention is immersion and felt realism.
everything_is_depressing_123 Apparently the damage model is much the same as 2017, aarava went into why this is the case, said it's about the teams not wanting to see their cars be destroyed in horrible crashes in the game, so it probably won't change much going forward
I just hope that damage will be better. You smash into a wall at 200 hph and you countinue the race but Vettel chrashes into a wall at 80 kph and retires
How many times it's needed to point out that teams and sponsors Don't want their cars to be crushed in to bits. They even said about it in one of the logs
Mate don't you already know? They WANT but they CAN'T the teams don't want to see their cars destroyed in the game + FOM doesn't give them the license to get better damage...
NikoZei I found out about that last year. Every time I read that somewhere it gets more frustrating. I mean, what kind of bullshit is that! Cars get destroyed in real life but they forbid them to be wrecked in a fucking game! Because *poor sponsors will get scraped off in a game on players computers*. Absolute nonsense!
I want the AI to make mistakes, be more aggressive, and actually race each other. Make them get out of the way instead of blocking you in quali/practice. Right now, it's just "ok, maybe a little safety car at lap 1 and then let's follow each other to the chequered flag." Basically a more intelligent/daring AI would be cool. It would be cool if Jeff was able to give more strategic information. (raikkonen is in our pit window; perez just came into the pits, how about we respond?; ricciardo just pitted, let's try to overcut; etc...) On our side, I want mechanical failures on many aspects. Gearbox, energy recovery, engine, brakes, rear and floor damage, etc...
Daniel O Yes it will. They have a year to make the game, of course it will be buggy. Codies have done as much as they can on damage without getting into trouble with FOM.
There will never be such a "thing" called a simulator when all the person does is stare at a screen with a wheel and pedals no matter how much the set up costs. It still just a video game albeit a "better" one dependent on how much you spend. Even real simulators can only reproduce the track layout, various undulations in track layout.
An official F1 game is NEVER going to be a simulator, here's just a few basic reasons why: - even 6 year olds play this game; if it were a sim, they couldn't even get out of the pits - no console is capable of this much simulation as of yet - many just jump into the game to play with friends, they just want to have fun - it would cost hella' lot more to laser scan tracks, thus the game would cost as much (if not more!) than iRacing and its content - no team would let out their current secrets and developments for their cars etc.
True codemaster will never go full sim or even close. If they had it their way they would make it more arcade so its just pick up and play which will attract more casual players like the young bucks.
another thing i saw wich got changed in F1 2018 is the minimap. normally on the minimap you see the track and some white dots (yellow if it is you're teammate) but on this one i notice that all dots have the colour resambeling the team
Well I wouldn't call it a hardcore sim, but I wouldn't call it an arcade either. Seems to be that codies are trying to go a bit more sim each time. I would say it'll be nearing the hardcore sim border.
I'm going to get the game even though being on a controller I think this will be past my 60 year old reflexes to handle all the ers management. Thanks Ben for the update. Looking forward to "seeing" you in a cut scene.
I love how code master looks at all these extra details I don't really play F1 just watch it I play fifa and ea sports don't go enough in depth like this F1 2018 looks amazing
Hopefully this will mean more realistic setups. It sure sounds like there will be no more BS 1-x wings and 11 ballast. If this pans out like this gentleman is saying 11 ballast should burn the rear tyres off and you won't be able to get the front tyres to work.
In previous F1 games, they leaned to an arcade style more than a simulator. Looking at this developer diary, it seems like F1 2018 is a big step up from the last recent games, pursuing for a more simulator-like feel. Although F1 2018 isn't a full sim due to either: not having enough budget, teams not willing to incorporate every single aspect of their cars, or needing to appeal to gamepad users, I can happily say that F1 2018 is a simcade. Maybe in the coming years Codemasters will improve on the simulation of their cars. I'm so hyped for this game, god damn.
I hope AOR doesn’t include the automatic ERS option as an assist. We’re out there trying to put in the fastest, most consistent laps, time after time, trying to make the league more respectable to race in.. I’d rather be at a disadvantage, every now and then by having it on automatic, than racing in a lower league, just because I don’t want to deal with it online..
well considering actual f1 cars can automatically deploy and manage the ers whilst learning lap after lap where it is needed, i don't think the game will include auto as an 'assist'. it should be more like have it on auto for normal driving, turn it up to max when you want an overtake (or for qualy) but then deal with the downfall of having less deployment in the following lap or two at least thats my take on what it will be like
I remember youtubers saying the same about setups last year. Things like you can't run high ballast or very low wings and yet people found a way to make them op..
Ive never wanted to drop the money on a proper wheel more in my life haha, after being a gamepad survivor forever I think this is the year I save up and get a wheel
For everyone saying its not a simulator and arguing. It's not a simulator or a game. It's a hybrid of the two. A fun game with added realism. Can be taken casually or seriously
It's not a hardcore simulator. It's not ultra unrealistic arcade. As usual. Why do people always ask this? Codemasters most likely won't change the game completely.
for the force feedback, I remember 2017 not having any feeling of the rear of the car and having to catch slides based on what you could see vs what you actually felt. Do you know if they adjusted that to make corrections easier?
I feel like this is a step forward, but it will also make it quite a bit harder for pad users, since the mfd is a slight pain to use with something like a PS4 controller (mfd controls are just over the joystick, so you can't use it during cornering at all).
Do you really need a Wheel setup for the game? My set is broken and can't play on that anymore so i need to play it with the controller. It sucks that i probably can't race for one consecutive hour because of health issues in my shoulder
Just asking, but as these league racers are normally 2-3 seconds faster than the actual cars by setup and taking the kerbs hard, can they do a sub one minute lap around Austria as such Bottas did a 1:03.130?
Looks good! What are peoples thoughts on the tracks? I feel like track accuracy is a glaring issue that needs addressing. Biggest offenders that come to mind are spa and Silverstone. Maybe for 2019?
Guys i have a question about the steering wheel on the f1 car. You can see in the video that there is a blue bar(battery of the ers lap, right?) and a white bar with a D next to it: what does this bar mean? + what does the H bar mean? These bars werent on the f1 2017 game right?
It's possible that could be a hidden feature that they haven't shown us yet. Especially in the dev diary where they showed the tyre carcass temps. There was a shot where it showed the brakes indicating yellow, meaning that they're under a moderate amount of brake load. Who knows, maybe if it goes red for long enough, it could overheat and fail. Guess we'll have to find out on August 24th.
Maybe it'll be a good idea to underfuel the car this year cause' it seems like they fuel mixture doesn't matter that much when ERS is making such a huge difference...
Great video! But i personally would like if you gave credits, i cant see a link in the description, not to hate but just some feedback, other than that, good video
I really hope they will add those random problems to your car, if the AI have it, why can't we.
Godlike StimniX it's probably the reason I won my career championship last season. 5 retirements for Hamilton and no issues for me
Exactly, I mean i get that some people won't like that feature so i would add a option to turn it off. But if they want to call it a "simulator" they probably should add random issues with your car.

Most of the time it’s the cars ahead of you or just behind
James Dougherty Last season Vettel and I were teammates at Ferrari and the car was a second a lap quicker than the rest. From Singapur on Vettel had 4 punctures until the end of the season.

If damage is made better, will this mean your career mode will be a montage of pit stops? XD
everything_is_depressing_123 probabaly😂😂

It's more like, FOM license, they're TRYING to get better but they can't yet.
JohnnyDGaming that seems pretty much a bs answer from codemasters or aarva
They can't get their FOM License Hardrive
I just hope that damage will be better. You smash into a wall at 200 hph and you countinue the race but Vettel chrashes into a wall at 80 kph and retires

When F1 2006 is finished, will you do another season in F1 2013 ? I'd really like to see that
Engine Failure needed. Stick with Marussia and bring them to the front. :)
2012 I'd say is more likely :)
Tiametmarduk 2012 in the Marussia or HRT? Return of the cucumber challenge?
Tiametmarduk yay. Are you going to continue the Williams career mode from all the way back in 2013 or a new one?
Tiametmarduk I think we all want to see you drive a season in Grand Prix Legends ;)
I want the AI to make mistakes, be more aggressive, and actually race each other. Make them get out of the way instead of blocking you in quali/practice.

Pick one.
austrailian man who identifys as a kangaroo
Exactly f1 2018 will be a buggy mess with terrible online connection and a terrible damage model
you think that the f1 2009 codemasters game was the best right ...
nope 2009 was their first game
Nienai The TH-camr they first made f1 2010 on ps3 and Xbox 360
Daniel O Yes it will. They have a year to make the game, of course it will be buggy. Codies have done as much as they can on damage without getting into trouble with FOM.
A few words for F1 2018. Getting real is something called...
HYPE!!!!!
YES A HEART!!! BEN = LEGEND
Only if you play on a wheel.
There will never be such a "thing" called a simulator when all the person does is stare at a screen with a wheel and pedals no matter how much the set up costs. Thank to this guy. This is why the game is improving and turning into a sim after he joined Codies.
An official F1 game is NEVER going to be a simulator, here's just a few basic reasons why:
- even 6 year olds play this game; if it were a sim, they couldn't even get out of the pits

exactly. simulators dont fit the mainstream
exactly!
"no console is capable of this much simulation yet"
PC2 and Assetto Corsa prove this wrong
You sound like you have never driven in any category of Motorsport

i'm gonna need a gaming wheel for this
using a controller would porbably kill the tyres in no time
Shazriel J x2
You should get a gaming wheel anyways forget the tyres it just makes it so much more fun especialy wen u turn off all assists.
Wanted them to not be afraid of making the game more difficult for awhile
Hopefully this will mean more realistic setups. It sure sounds like there will be no more BS 1-x wings and 11 ballast. If this pans out like this gentleman is saying 11 ballast should burn the rear tyres off and you won't be able to get the front tyres to work.

Break the rear wing off againnnn
Cant wait for this! My times are getting better with 0 assists on and hopefully make it to esports in next year or 2
That shot of the Red Bull at 5:25 is fucking incredible. In those few seconds alone, you can see a massive difference from F1 2017.
When 3/4ths of your video is made up of a different video which you had no hand in making....
Very f1 youtuber is talking about dev diary 3
I remember youtubers saying the same about setups last year. Things like you can't run high ballast or very low wings and yet people found a way to make them op..
Anyone else think David Greco looks a small bit like Jonathan from 2017

Just think he made all the previous cars without real car data. That’s nuts
Oh lookie here folks! It is the yearly Codemasters arcade race game.
Muito foda saber que é um BR lá! 🇧🇷
David is actively playing iRacing,he is in sim racing a long time
The kerbs being potentially slower could possibly help nerf the corner cuts? 🤔
This is going to be the best F1 game ever

gamerhypno Exactly.
This guy makes it sound real
1:10 cremona circuit with pc 010 i guess
You guys in AOR should just get the game and hope right on with no practice. Like an AOR Pre-season testing
For the thing, that you're melting your rear tyres. How about to do a hot lap, then cool down lap and again a hot lap, like in real life?
Im hyped.
Considering that i drove alot in iRacing im fairly interessted to get my hands on F1 2018.
I mean this is amazing and all, but the main thing I want to know about is multiplayer and whether it will be reliable this year.
We're close now!
Makes me wonder how this game will run on controller this year.
Not all of us are rich kids who can afford a wheel and pedals, after all.
Patrick Star Fuck off www.amazon.com/HORI-Racing-Wheel-Apex-PlayStation-4/dp/B01N5QBT08?th=1

Had me going until her war right foot braking.... No sim race or single seat racer right foot brakes in a 2 pedal setup.
Is there any possibility to manage the ERS manually, like Kers back in the years ? So u can press an extra button for the delivery
"I can't think of anything we don't simulate" - PHYSICS AND HANDLING
dave kirk what the fuck do u know about handling an f1 car😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Thank for making this a sim
Hopefully you can still compete in League racing without having to buy a wheel... Otherwise I just wont have fun playing it.
ToastmitSchoko go play the crew then by
for the force feedback, I remember 2017 not having any feeling of the rear of the car and having to catch slides based on what you could see vs what you actually felt. Do you know if they adjusted that to make corrections easier?
I feel like this is a step forward, but it will also make it quite a bit harder for pad users, since the mfd is a slight pain to use with something like a PS4 controller (mfd controls are just over the joystick, so you can't use it during cornering at all).
Arthur Goetzke-Coburn When I played on the controller I put the settings on the other side, so I could use them while steering.
Do you really need a Wheel setup for the game? My set is broken and can't play on that anymore so i need to play it with the controller.
It sucks that i probably can't race for one consecutive hour because of health issues in my shoulder
Carlos Sainz explaining F1 2018😂
So he is driving f1 with 3 pedals??!
I started playing the f1 games after they removed ERS so I'm not too exited about that returning... also the tyre temperature sounds complicated
Just making the game fun whilst being a challenge with the assists off, I still want to be able to play a game without it being tedious
It cannot be a simulator when the devs IGNORE VR.
You can even see it doesn't have simulator physics
Just asking, but as these league racers are normally 2-3 seconds faster than the actual cars by setup and taking the kerbs hard, can they do a sub one minute lap around Austria as such Bottas did a 1:03.130?
Can we play f1 2018 normale with a controller?
So everything is better from a simulation point of view but more complicated.
What wheel/pedal setup do you recommend? I want to compete in f1 2018 thanks
Do us pad users get any difference in handling over 2017?
Looks good!
What are peoples thoughts on the tracks? I feel like track accuracy is a glaring issue that needs addressing. Biggest offenders that come to mind are spa and Silverstone. Maybe for 2019?
I hope that what that guy was saying applies to the AI as well 😜
Dame now the game has turn in to a high speed cheese match now.
Question - Does track evolution exist in these games?
Just as long as I can Turn on and Off the options and gameplay that I want to play with.
lmao the irony of putting ads on a Codemasters video smh...
Notification gang ps why are you posting at 11 Ben
Guys i have a question about the steering wheel on the f1 car. You can see in the video that there is a blue bar(battery of the ers lap, right?) and a white bar with a D next to it: what does this bar mean? + what does the H bar mean? These bars werent on the f1 2017 game right?
Does anyone know if the will update the front wing of the mclaren in a patch
From title i was scared that this game will be unplayable with controller xd.
Wouldn't it be nice if the brakes could gail as well?
Fail*
It's possible that could be a hidden feature that they haven't shown us yet. Especially in the dev diary where they showed the tyre carcass temps. There was a shot where it showed the brakes indicating yellow, meaning that they're under a moderate amount of brake load. Who knows, maybe if it goes red for long enough, it could overheat and fail. the halo looks liike handrails in game :DD
They've eradicated 1-11 wing meme setups? Thank god! That shit annoyed the hell out of me.
Are no assists faster in this game than assists?
GOOD VIDEO MATE
Sorry for huge OT but can anyone tell me what shoes these are? 7:41 :P
Maybe it'll be a good idea to underfuel the car this year cause' it seems like they fuel mixture doesn't matter that much when ERS is making such a huge difference...
Avoid gloss black tires!! heyhey
Hope we really feel the tires temperature. really interested to play it.
No triple screen support?, no VR? ... please....
but does the ai still pit 1 lap before the end like fools?
Great video! But i personally would like if you gave credits, i cant see a link in the description, not to hate but just some feedback, other than that, good video
I still hope they add a battle Royal mode
What about controller users. Will it be bad for them?
Steering wheel he’s using?

why cant they just do flatspotting on tires? plsss
