    The 80s were a golden decade for pop/rock and other genres as well. I was a record store manager from around 1982 to 1987 so I played a lot of music like this in my store. Always fun to see you two react to music I “grew up” to in the 60s, 70s & 80s.

    Wang Chung took its name from the Chinese term for the first note of the Chinese musical scale, though the bassist said that “it means whatever you want it to mean.” When the band interjected the phrase into the lyrics of its 1987 hit “Everybody Have Fun Tonight,” the lingo became Generation-X shorthand for a wild night out.

    The soundtrack to "To Live and Die in LA" featuring Wang Chung has always been a favorite. The title track was a minor hit but the rest of it is just amazing. It would make a great workout album.
    You should watch the movie. The mid 80s movies about LA were really gritty. Even the comedies like "Beverly Hills Cop" we're about a gritty LA. Even a lot of the music was gritty.

    • @gpatrick95
      @gpatrick95 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, that soundtrack album is a criminally underrated effort. I still have it in my iPhone. It’s my go-to for airplane travel when I need some rest, but it’s too uncomfortable to actually sleep. I can easily get lost in that soundscape and zone out for 45 minutes.
      My favorite song on “To Live and Die in L.A.” is “Wait,” which was also on their album “Points on a Curve.”

    One of the most fun songs to come out of the '80s -- right at the height of MTV's popularity, back when MTV was a network of all music videos, all the time. Honestly, I don't know which one I like more -- the song, or the music video. Both are Wang Chung-a-licious.

  • @ColoradoGrami
    @ColoradoGrami 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Oh, yeah!! Wang Chung tonight!! 💖 You are correct about the dancing, Amber. Up until the '70's dancing was an integral part of life. When the music got psychedelic, the dancing changed. It amped back up in the '80's where everyone was dancing again.

    • @donnabruhn6907
      @donnabruhn6907 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You have forgotten about the 70's disco era, the biggest dance era yet. But even with psychedelic 60's we were constantly dancing

    • @mowerdan8133
      @mowerdan8133 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Uh, no. Mid '70s, with Disco, was when everyone got up & danced again.....including older folks. 1980 was the Disco backlash. Dance music came back in '83 with Michael Jackson, Madonna, & British/Synth Pop. First half of '70s was when serious music was the thing, reflecting the chaotic times. Dancing took a backseat.

    • @ColoradoGrami
      @ColoradoGrami 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@donnabruhn6907 I was all at the discos so have not forgotten it. I would have been more accurate to say mid to late '60's. The hippies danced in the fields, not in the clubs. Disco brought that all back.

    • @ColoradoGrami
      @ColoradoGrami 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mowerdan8133 Point taken, and yes, I was there. I was having babies in the early '70s and as you pointed out the times affected music, and dancing, so in my head there was no dancing again until disco which began in the latter half of the '70's. So, when you get as old as I am the decades aren't so incrementally defined. Thank you for making my point for me. 🙂

    • @mowerdan8133
      @mowerdan8133 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ColoradoGrami I agree, music trends & cultural shifts tended to follow more of a straddling of decades. That "Happy Days" Rock & Roll era was actually late '50s/early '60s. The hippie/social relevance scene was late '60s/early '70s and so on.

    I like Wang Chung and this was definitely a huge hit for them. Their earlier music was a lot better (Dance Hall Days, Don’t Let Go), and their album for the soundtrack To Live And Die In L.A received major praise. Hypnotize Me, Wait, and Space Junk are other songs worth listen to 😊
