- Riding San Diego Trolley Blue Line Southbound (train model: Siemens S700) from Westfield UTC near University of California San Diego to Santa Fe Station in Downtown San Diego. San Diego Trolley Blue Line is operated by the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS). Trolley Blue Line is the first longest rail line (26.3 miles or 42.3 kilometre) and busiest in the San Diego Trolley System.

This train journey starts at the Westfield UTC Outdoor Mall in northern San Diego. Westfield UTC is an outdoor mall that includes retailers and restaurants. In addition, there is a transit center (transfer to MTS Bus or NCDA BREEZE Bus). Near the outdoor mall is the University of California San Diego (UCSD). The Trolley travels through UCSD and travels south, passing by Old Town Transit Center, SeaWorld San Diego (transfer to MTS Bus Route 8 or 9 on Old Town TC), Little Italy and Downtown San Diego. The Blue Line continue south of San Diego and terminates at the border of San Diego and Tijuana Mexico.

7:00 this station should be called UC San Diego Health/Scripps Memorial Center since there are actually two large hospital campuses on each side. The camera is actually facing Scripps Memorial Hospital in this shot.

Fantastic footage!!! When I left San Diego to move to northwest Arkansas in 2010, this line was not yet in existence. It really lengthens the Blue Line by quite a bit . . .

Not yet, but I will have them when I return to San Diego.
They easily could have had an additional connection to the Coaster Commuter Rail at Balboa Station......the tracks are right next to each other......they would just have to rip down that wall
Or extended it even further to the Sorrento Valley coaster station. Or a direct coaster connection to UCSD. Would have given UCSD commuters a much faster option for getting to school/work while the Trolley provides a good way for getting around within the UCSD area
@@willmorris8198people don’t understand. The coaster does not belong to Mts . It belongs to NCT . That’s why all the 300s routes and 101 are limited to where they can go. Route 20 used to go to the Escondido mall then NCT decided not to let Mts into north court which then route 20 went to Del lago station . Far but close to mall . To only going as far as rancho Bernardo.
@@socaltnboy1989 You're correct, the coaster is NCTD. However they both use the same fare system (pronto) and are well integrated to be able to get a coaster pass that also lets you ride all of MTS plus the Sprinter and the NCTD busses with a single card (although it is more expensive than a normal MTS pass). Similar to how Tokyo's multiple rail agencies are integrated so a single fare gets you on everything. The fact that we have multiple agencies isn't the problem, the lack of infrastructure is the problem
@@willmorris8198 Mts has tried to buy out NCT for years and they won’t sell. It’s cheap because 70-80% of their buses don’t run past 7pm lol and also there’s no night life unless you go to downtown Escondido or Oceanside . And even then the sprinter doesn’t run as late as trolley . Eventually Mts will buy it off.
LA Metro is way better in comparasion

@@CancelTH-cam026It just sucks that everything takes too long to do in the US. CDMX already has its high speed rail commuter running, 2 lines of cable cars & now they are completing the suburban line, going onto the 3rd cable car 🚠 line & they are extending BRTs.
3.5 million people in SD county compared to 12 million people in LA Metro area.... of course it is better as it should be for the 2nd biggest city in US. For a midsized, sprawled out city, San Diego's light rail is really decent.
