I wonder what a revival would look like with seniors at an Aged Care facility?

I really appreciated the explanation of Biblical revival and loving discussion of Asbury Revival. I have been so confused and this brought much clarity!

I think it's sad that some feel the need to judge whether this revival fits their definition of authentic revival. What's happening in Asbury as well as some other places is a welcome sight to what this society has been experiencing for decades. I believe the church/ecclesia is excited to see this change and movement, no matter how small, toward God but of course religion wants to scrutinize its validity to see if it fits its criteria. Jesus never rallied for religion and it's easy to see why when you look at the confusion it creates

Did you actually listen, Sam? The pastor didn't give *his* definition of authentic revival, he gave examples of authentic revival as drawn from Scripture. Further, Christ commanded to *judge* the fruits of sound teaching. Is there a preaching of the gospel, bearing fruits of repentance and sound teaching from there through the decades, as well as right now? This isn't about a petty form of "religion" that wants to "scrutinize its validity", but an honest perspective of Biblical revival and how we should pray for and seek that from the Lord Himself, as noted in any other Biblical context. No confusion there; any "confusion it creates" comes from *not* preaching, hearing, and seeking the true gospel of Christ, and being caught up in emotional/subjective experiences.

This Asbury revival explanation is helpful. The book Ordinary is fantastic. I would however encourage people who have never experienced this sort of thing before. Some of it is emotionalism, but all of it is transformational.

in my biblical/ theological opinion we're all better off qualifying the statements as follows- Some of it is mere emotionalism, but all of it is not biblically transformational, except that which is produced by the Spirit of God. Regardless, IT IS much too soon to attempt judgments about "validity" this is the subject of Jonathan Edward's work called "religious affections" which summarized would say in twenty years you will know if it was a divinely sanctioned Spirit-led awakening/ revival because you will see the fruit of the Spirit ( or the lack of it). since Asbury is a "Christian" school it's safe to assume the student body is likely regularly exposed to reading, singing and praying Scripture (hopefully) so the ground, so to speak, should have been tilled, seeded and watered before what's being called "revival" began.
Everyone just take a deep breath and give thanks God can superintend and control it without our "help."

I totally agree.. but much caution should be observed..
Todd Bentley is there and the LGBTQ community has said they are pleased with this " revival " should be a BIG red flag !

Dean Odle Ministries has a good video about Asbury on his website

Why are people opposed to the Holy Spirit touching your emotions? I would have to say get over it and allow the Lord to move the way He wants to.. the Asbury experience was hardly what I’d call emotionalism.

I am truly disappointed in your judgement of what God is doing in Asbury. It is only what 7 days, but something very wonderful is happening. The church leaders now needs to step up and lead those young ones into discipleship and getting them committed into local fellowships and churches

What was disappointing? Its right to urge caution and not get carried away.

I guess with the overwhelming presence of evil in the world... There's worse things young people can do than seek the Lord. Even if it doesn't fit in the Christian box

    • @markthomas4310

There is NO Christian box, "real" believers follow and trust the word of God, we don't base it off emotions or feelings or esoteric one time experiences that fancy those watching or attending. Is there worse things kids could be doing sure but the same goes for adults who play woke church based off the word love. You adhere to ALL of scripture or you don't....salvation is internal not external, repentance is real and needs to be fully understood! Nowhere in scripture does it say or suggest the real church playcating to this world's whims or views or feelings or ideologies or philosophies or agendas, God designed the church Tobe separate to reach the lost. Weather you agree with that or not I assure dosent change its truth.
