Whoever A&M hires next, they better not give a 10 year deal again. The standard should be a 3 year deal and then renew it 3 years at a time. Coaches leave when they want to leave anyway-a long deal only keeps bad coaches that nobody wants anyway.
If they're going to land a big name. That's about what they'll have to pay. If they hire an unknown or 1st year Head Coach. They'll still overpay for them. Probably less than 5 no less than 3 million a year.

If they want a good established coach, they're going to have to shell out a good contract. I believe that's what they're going to do. They're too big and wealthy of a program to settle, and will go for a big name coach with proven success.

Unless they have a home run hire in the bag, I think they should have waited as well. It will be cheaper and the recruits are there to win next year. The new coach is unlikely to recruit as well as Jimbo and may lose players to the portal. But maybe they have somebody in mind.
Agree on Lane Kiffin. As a Bama fan I know we are going to be in the market in a few years and I want nothing to do with him. I think A&M needs a coach that knows the A&M culture of meddling boosters and dealing with billionaires telling you how to run the program. An A&M alum needs to be brought in. An outsider isn't gonna survive there. The curse of RC Slocum is alive and well.

Allow me to help you. Bobby Bowden built FSU, (a former female only university) and hired him. For 30 years offensive coordinators have come through that program and have come out as head coaches elsewhere.
Brad Scott to South Carolina--abject failure. Mark Richt to Georgia-close but no cigar. from 2000-2005, whoever that was he is never mentioned.
Then JImbo comes. Wins a natty with a crab-leg stealing, near-sighted thug (Gemini Princeton, or something equally stupid sounding) impresses a bunch of deep-pocketed morons with more cash then functioning neurons.
They govern Texas A & M. NOONE ELSE. Make no mistake, Auburn runs football the same way.

I think Mike Elko is the best replacement he recruited half the guys on the A&M roster. Dan Lanning is a long shot but i could see it happening.
Elko is the only guy they should hire. His track record as a D coordinator at A&M and Notre Dame was very good and as a head coach at Duke he's overachieving. Get him now before someone else does

I can't. There's no reason to leave a school like Oregon unless we're talking Alabama or Georgia or someone of similar caliber. A&M would be a lateral move AT BEST

Lou, you need to stop downplaying Bama's 2020 championship. That was legitimately a championship caliber team. A great team. The first and only team to play and win 11 SEC games, mostly in dominant fashion, which included a thorough ass whipping of UGA. Now if you want to call out Ohio State for only playing like 6 games or whatever it was that's fair but the SEC played a legit schedule. Only thing missing were the meaningless cupcake games. Also, we all know beyond a shadow of a doubt had that been Georgia there would be no downplaying from you.

I disagree with Finebaum on that. Between the money their boosters have and are willing to spend, top facilities, top recruiting grounds, and an admin all-in on football success, the aTm job should be seen as a premier destination for a coach. Lacking the right coach is the only thing holding that program back. They're one of the most dangerous programs in the country when it comes to potential. If they hire the right coach who can unlock the potential there, they can be a Tier 1 program.

OHIO ST. & TEXAS are the ONLY 2 schools in the Nation (!) that can afford all 36 mens and womens sports teams sanctioned by the NCAA. - - - Interesting where the sacrifices are made at some places just to fund football ?

You may rag on Dabo, but he’s a proven winner. He had Clemson at elite status over a 6-7 year period while essentially recruiting against the SEC. List a coach not named Nick Saban or Kirby Smart that had more success over that same time frame.
