I can’t even put into words how sad this is... some of these birds that are extinct are the last of their LINEAGE, just lost to the sands of time. So many years of evolution just wasted....
    This is just terribly devastating.

Hawaiians killed most for their feathers. Sad!

Not only that, but but time itself and evolution will knock out species. Within all of that; disease and weather can wipe out entire populations of insects and animals. It's not all caused by humans. Being naive can be quite the toxic trait. Many other variables come into play when talking about extinction.

@@evanwiger when the first Austronesians reached Hawaii, they valued nature highly and adopted sustainable measures when plucking bird feathers. It was only when overseas colonialism started to widespread and the need to plant specific crops that grow well on the volcanic lands of Hawaii became the root cause of their extinctions, though the seeds were in the Austronesian migration, which unintentionally introduced Pacific Rats to Hawaii.
Long story short, colonizers want sugar canes planted Hawaii, the rats became pests to the sugar plantations. The corpos wanted a quick end to this without thinking twice about the environment, and just decided to send Indian mongooses and let them do their thing. Turns out the rats are nocturnal (active at night), while the mongooses are the opposite, and because the birds evolved without predators, they built their nests on the ground, and the mongooses enjoyed bird and their eggs.
One close-to-extinction case was of the Nene Goose, as I remember, 25k population in the 1800s, only 30 geese in 1952, but thankfully by conservationist effort, around 2000 geese today.
So, there's hope for humans to save the world. History had been dark, it's just how we can overcome our evil past with a thought out, beautiful future.

@@evanwiger No, LMAO. Native Hawaiians lived and still live with the land and nature in harmony, way before Europeans and Americans arrived.

That’s way too many birds to be extinct in one place. The Hawaiian birds were extraordinarily beautiful and brought a lot of song. Mirth and unforgettable sounds to the jungles that they lived in once Hawaii became a very popular vacation resort and all that deforestation I’m sure that is the reason none of these birds are there I can’t think of any other reason, it’s a shame
