Yeah. What if you could maybe earn a double jump by timing a second button press right as you overlap with objects of a certain color, like pink maybe? Maybe the system could be called a "parry" because you're essentially nullifying the threat and jumping off of it?

I was so impressed by how Sean narrated the beginning chapter part of the game. It sounds so much like those old cartoons or people you hear from the radio in the 1930’s era. This game looks and sounds so retro.

They actually hand drew and animated every scene and background. That’s why it looks so authentic.
EDIT: I did make a comment in the replies regarding this but yes, some of the backgrounds are 3-D sculpted models! :)
Apparently, there are individual songs for every level, created by their friend who is a jazz musician. There are multiple versions of each song that have different solos for instruments.
There are lots of BTS videos of this online, which is where I got my info! All credit to the game’s creators’ interviews, along with videos made about behind the scenes.

Hiroko Kaku nah it's based in 1930 becuse in the options menu down left reads 1930
30's and 40's animation are my favourite. It's so fuckin' good, I literally have about 40 to 50 cartoons from that era saved on my computer. There's just something really magical about how it looks and the history behind it that I love.

Holy cow I actually never watched this before! I didn’t come across Sean until 2018. I’ve been seeing how popular cuphead has gotten and omg Sean is so different he’s grown so much!
I dig the aesthetic of this game SO MUCH
It's not just the look. If you know golden age Hollywood there are a ton of hidden gems in this game. Cagney's Carnation is referring to James Cagney's love of gardening. Im so happy to see these guys show an appreciation of those times. While not perfect, there was a class and glamour to people. Even a native intelligence we have lost. The 20's and 30's and even the difficult 40's really might have been our best days. I dont know what is in store for us when we lose all the people from that period.

13:05 You can parry pretty much any pink object if you press "jump" in midair (doing so builds up your super meter).
18:38 You only need to worry about dodging if you get the "chaser" (homing missiles) upgrade (it's weaker than the standard weapon - peashooter -, though) :)
It's also worth noting that parrying isn't jumping while ON a pink object, it's that jumping in midair makes Cuphead do a spinning attack which can hit pink objects.
