"Writing something about someone who used to be me" is such a haunting way to describe a past love. He used to be the person she wrote about in her golden notebook, but now she writes about someone else. I just love that line.
@@evelynlagarde8419 I have been hearing about that one! I find a new song a week to obbsess over so maybe once your losing me has lost its shine (which will be never) I will go back to it
i’m convinced that taylor and aaron (and the other people they work with) are the best creative force. literally every song they do is amazing. i really love the alcott, renegade, and the folklore/evermore songs sm.
Matt Berninger (the vocalist of the national) wrote these songs while struggling with a very strong depressive episode so that's why 'your mind is not your friend' sounds so raw. They really are amazing musicians. I'm glad they're getting more views and recognition because of Taylor.
The National is one of those bands whose music just exude warmth, beauty and this special feeling. Truly. I know sometimes they're classified as "dad rock" whatever that means. And that their lyrics are sometimes a bit too dense. But they're so so enjoyable. Aaron and Bryce's music is just so amazing and Matt's voice is brilliant, unique, stand out. First Two Pages of Frankenstein is their most gentle, approachable album to date. I hope fans of their featured artists, esp Taylor's, give it a listen. And then listen to Boxer. You'll thank yourself!!!
Caitlin manifesting “The One” to remain on the Eras tour set list is the best. Literally when the switch up happened I immediately thought of you & how excited you must be.
Well - I am a 48 year old male "The National" fan and even I got emotional watching this! I guess this introduced me to Taylor more than ever and really made me appreciate her talent much more deeply.
I think it’s fun that you were introduced to The National from Taylor when my brother has been obsessed with The National forever and only listened to folklore bc of them. We love a musical venn diagram
The Alcott is a masterpiece, it is so gorgeous. I have lost count of how many times I have listened to The Alcott. You are right about The Alcott being the best one, I feel the same way.
Compared to the last band that Taylor Swift collaborated with, I actually love The National and this album really surprised me so now I will be listening to their other works. I love discovering people in this way
Hey, amazing video! Thanks for sharing these reactions. I'm a big fan of The National, but discovering more and more how talented Taylor Swift is. Been listening to the new album multiple times today, and found myself repeating The Alcott over and again :) So I wanted to see what others might be saying about it. Thanks again for sharing, it truly is a masterpiece!
Beautiful tale of love and ambivalence. I love how the perspective Taylor brings with her parenthetical countermelodies changes the song. “Everything that’s mine is a landmine” and “did my love aid and abet you?” took me out.
I've never listened to The National but The Alcott was amazing. (Such beautiful lyrics and harmonizing.) So glad you mentioned EXILE, it reminded how both people change off singing back and forth. This song feels like the sequel to Exile, if those lovers tried connecting again. Not surprised Taylor would take 20 mins and have a guest part done immediately.
what if the "golden notebook" "golden thinking" is like, having to break back into her songs? like to get back to a place where he means enough to her to be sung about, to be written about in the notebook? idk if that makes any sense lol
Hey Caitlin, I don't know if you're going to read this but I wanted to share anyways, I'm 15 years old and I've been watching your channel since the " You Need To Calm Down " reaction and you don't know how much I love you and your reactions, You're a refreshing beam of light, You had been always transparent on this channel and showing us parts of what you're going through that's why we are so connected to you as a person more than a channel, Very smart and humble girl, I always get excited when you post something and I rematch your older stuff all the time, Keep up your energy and don't make anyone change you and make you sad ❤️! .
I agree with you! I feel like it fits with the vibes of the couple from coney island. Also, I just wanted to point out that the last chorus has a subtle change but it adds so much 😢 Instead of "It's the last thing you wanted", they both sing "It's the last thing I wanted"
Also in my head The Alcott made me think of right where you left me and The Alcott being the person who actually visits the rwylm person at the bar/restaurant and what they imagined in their head sitting there in the dark corner actually becoming reality. Lyrics like “I'd go to the corner in the back where you'd always be (…) Writing something about someone who used to be me”. Or referencing “twisted in threads” and “your golden thinking” in relation to invisible string, meaning the other person still thinks about the golden times of the early stages of their relationship. Idk in my head it makes sense hahaha
I feel like Taylor always felt he was above her in some way.. Much more high valued moralistic and out of her reach and sights altogether... In the song "peace" she sings "Your integrity makes me feel small.. You paint dreamscapes on the walls.. I talk s-h-t with my friends & its like I'm wasting your honour" Sometimes Joe feels unreachable.. I think that's why she sings in "The Alcott" "I had to do something To break into your golden thinking" Here golden thinking is his high moralistic values that are so far above from Taylor's reach, and makes him superior to her inner child inside.
If you decide to expand a little and decide to get into The National I strongly reccomend you start with High Violet, then Boxer or Trouble Will Find Me, these albums are AMAZING and the sound varies a bit more
i've listened to it all now! i think it's pretty good, but in a "i wouldn't be mad if someone else put this on in the background" kind of way. i'm glad i didn't film it cause it would have been a boring video haha
Taylor Swift is also on Big Red Machine's "Renegade" (which as a band is a mix of guys from The National and Bon Iver i think) and it's spellbinding! if you haven't heard it yet pls check it out
GIVE ME SOME TIPS TO FORGET YOU?! HAVE I BECOME ONE OF YOUR PROBLEMS?! COULD IT BE EASY THIS ONCE?! EVERYTHING THAT'S MINE IS A LANDMINE?! I'M REALLY NOT OKAY!! 😭💔
Another National song with a female vocalist/duet is So Far, So Fast with an artist you probably haven't heard but I'm sure you'll like - Lisa Hannigan. th-cam.com/video/nxWlNtRfBis/w-d-xo.html&pp=ygUXbmF0aW9uYWwgc28gZmFyIHNvIGZhc3Q%3D
I love The Alcott, if I should rate it between the similar songs, it would have to be exile>The Alcott>evermore>coney island. But the pararelssss. I am gonna focus on the Taylor lines, like "have I become one of your problems?" callback to exile if you ask me. "everything that's mine is a landmine" as you mentioned, peace vibes, "why don't you rain on my parade?" TIWWCHNT? "shred my evening gown" that is something between "ripped up my prom dress" and "I only bought this dress so you could take it off". Obviously, I know this song is not about her or her life, but the fact that she wrote her own lines...
hey caitlin!! loved the video (and the song ofc), as always!!! i was wondering if you had listened to Ruel's debut album, 4th Wall? if not, i think you'd love it, you could maybe even do a reaction if you listen to it ;)
Please please I’m returning your reaction to this fully wanting to know if I’m the only one now thinking this is all true and ruined but happy and sad but fulfilled??!!
"EVERYTHING THAT'S MINE IS A LANDMINE".... THIS LINE IS SO TAYLOR SWIFT THAN TAYLOR HERSELF
😭
"Writing something about someone who used to be me" is such a haunting way to describe a past love. He used to be the person she wrote about in her golden notebook, but now she writes about someone else. I just love that line.
The Alcott is so perfect and I'm literally obsessed. The lyrics, the melody, the harmonies, the backing vocals are just so pretty
I listened to the Alcott and I actually liked it! I love exile and Coney Island when Taylor is combined with male voices it is magical to my ears
yessss, what a trinity of songs
Listen to The last time!!! It’s so much better than exile but is also one of Taylor’s duets with a man
What about renegade🥺

Boxer is one of the greatest albums ever.
Trouble Will Find Me is absolutely most approachable for a new fan… plus it has their most approachable song in I Need My Girl
reacting to taylor swift is NEVER too dramatic!! youre always so real (yes especially when youre crying) and i loveeee these so pls never stop.
you talking about how the alcott reminds you of coney island and coney island being the surprise song tonight ahhhh !!!!
i was so excited when i found out! should have definitely seen it coming tho haha
Taylor voice fit so well with the lead singer of the National
Matt could sing his shopping list and it would sound heartbreakingly beautiful. Wonderful stuff.
This is TRULY a freaking masterpiece, I GASPED when Taylor came in singing,FULLY and TOTALLY OBSESSED
Caitlin manifesting “The One”

She wrote exile with Joe.. And this ones is FOR JOE

I guess this was the song for which she went to the studio in New York after her first 2 shows in the middle of ERAS tour
The Alcott seems like a continuation of right where you left me where the guy who left her has come back to try and fix things and make it work
I agree with you! I feel like it fits with the vibes of the couple from coney island. Also,

I love this song. It's totally normal to be excited by a new song by your favourite artist. I'm super excited too when Taylor releases news stuff😊
I was excited when ac dc was releasing their album back in 2020
