Too bad he couldn't surf the Eddie, he might have scooped up some of those free Airfare miles, to help with the travels!!!
Was cool to see you acknowledge the coevolution that's occurred between bodyboarding and surfing. When surfers really started to nail air reverses, you could see how they drew their inspiration from the sorts of lines bodyboarders would draw performing the same maneuver. The same goes for slab surfing. As much shit as bodyboarders get, they've also been pushing the limits of waveriding and showing what's possible. The same goes for surfing too, of course: when you see someone with insane rail control like Mike Stewart, it's easy to see how he was drawing his inspiration from the top standup surfers around him at the time. So much cross-pollination and inspiration between the two sports and it's really refreshing to see someone like yourself acknowledge it!
You're an absolute legend for charging some of the craziest waves in the world on a regular basis and for showing such kind comments and respect to bodyboarders. Now you will expand your audience to the boog community. Love it! I thought your barrels were just as good if not better than the boogs anyways :) It's all about having fun in the water and drawing inspiration from others no matter what we ride. On the other hand, those stand up fiberglass board riders that take on the Wedge in my area, I have crazy respect for them because they get WORKED and most paddle back out. As a bodyboarder, Nathan Florence and Brett Barley are my favorite surf content creators, they both are humble and show respect to all watermen, regardless of craft. It makes both human sense & business sense: there are ALLOT of bodyboarders globally, if they can tap into that audience that means more views & $$$$$. Jamie Obrien is another creator that follows this model, I personally know a few bodyboarders that are friends with Barley for example and they say he is as nice in person as he depicts online. The surfers who are bigoted & discriminate sound like broken records with their quips & hate...it gets old & its lame. And its usually the surfers who can barely bottom turn that talk allot of $hit because they know they will never need some info from a real bodyboarder who may know where the sickest sand bar or slab is. Bodyboarders take ALLOT of time to track down the heaviest / uncrowded waves in their area & they know how to keep their mouths shut. sick video as always @nathanflorence.
