    Dude, I feel like we are kindred souls in making whatever you've got, just work. I definitely would have gone with the flap disk on the grinder as well.

    if reclaimed oak was good enough for brian may's favorite guitar, i think it counts as tonewood, cause that man toans

      Thank you for watching Andrew. Yeah, Thats what I was thinking the whole time but it seemed like after I started this build... I saw several guitars being built from oak suddenly LOL

    really enjoyed this . brought me back to making the neck for my CBG . i used a rasp and sand paper . i was pretty sore the next day ... i used a teplate i printed out for the frets , i used hand hack saw to cut fret slots and nails with the heads cut off and i ground those with a grinder before gluein em it . that guitar is still here . its not bad wither . it has a piezo with a preamp and a built in headphone amp . super proud of it . i cant imagine how proud you will be of this guitar when you finish . thats so awesome pal . hats off .

      Man I bet that was a long day. I thought I was going to do it that way but I just don't have the minerals and dedication you got. It needed electricity. Some people cut out full bodies with a coping saw one guy in the comments on a vid says it just takes a pack of blades and a lot of beer. Lol

    oak for a neck..how is that in weight compared to maple?..and how stable is the oak..I mean has it twisted ( I know the oak is old, but most wood has some tension in it that even causes the wood to twist after it is cut let alone allowed to dry or take on humidity)..and what kind of string height are you able to get down to after adjustements on the truss rod and fret leveling?..thanks

    • @heavymetalATC
      @heavymetalATC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for watching and taking the time to write such a detailed and well thought out comment Mikko. Oak is VERY heavy but it seems to be solid as a rock I really doubt the truss rod is doing anything at all in any way it just doesn't need it and it would probably break before budging the oak. I left it strung for about 2-3 months or so right across the hall from the bathroom we take showers in and it didn't move a bit it was still in tune. I did a fret level on it a little over a year ago but I took a year off so I haven't finished it completely to see how low I could get the strings but from what I have been able to tell its superior to maple in every way: hardness, strength, stability, durability etc etc except for the look working with it and the weight it looks like furniture and weighs a metric ton and it will destroy your tools.

    • @mikkosutube
      @mikkosutube 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@heavymetalATC thanks for the reply..i am started into using some oak and beech from some used furniture, but only for a skunk stripe kind of look to make the neck a little wider because as always i bought wood that was too narrow for both the body halves and the neck which i almost always do a cross glue glueup job on..and yes, oak is hard, and shreds a bit as it is worked..i mean like splinters rather than the smooth soft powdery stuff that comes off of working maple...oh..and i noticed the other myth breaker here..you used elmers glue instead of the holy grail of guitar building..titt bond...i like the tite bond because it dries hard and sands nicely, but i have found a powder glue that is used for furniture veneer, it also dries hard, but once you mix it you have to use it within about 4 to 6 hours..

    Always wondered if you dont have a skunk stripe or GT stripe if you're an aussie like me how the truss rod doesn't get glued to itself.
    Masking tape ... genius.
    I was thinking some kind of complicated silicon sliding paper thin glue impervious mechanism that could be removed after the wood glue cured. And reused over and over.
    Masking tape is better
    Edit; 7:11
    He said bastard
    'Nother edit;
    It's weird that yanks call it a side grinder. Which sounds to me like 'seyyyyyd grahynda' in Australia it's called an angle grinder. . . Which sounds like 'angle grinder' We usually just call it the grinder though.
    At work u may hear... "where's the farkn grinder dik ed?" For example
    I like headstock shape

    • @heavymetalATC
      @heavymetalATC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much for watching and for taking the time to write this awesome Aussie comment... wow I didnt know it was called a GT stripe down under. Is that because of the Holden GT or is it just fender marketing for a different continent? Well I guess fender never said skunk sooo yeah, I really dont know why I call it a side grinder, I guess because its not a burr grinder or a die grinder. LOL yeah the box says angle grinder when you buy it and im sure it says something like 90* angle grinder right on the side. Most Americans don't know what the hell I am saying most of the time though, because I apparently have a very strong Muscle Shoals area accent... The hide your cousin accent HAHAHA. Thanks again M8.
