  • Solving 2x2 and 3x3 equations is easily accomplished using the Linear Solver App on the HP Prime, but what about the more complicated systems of equations that you'll potentially run into in your engineering/physics classes?
This video shows how to use the RREF (Reduce Row Echelon Form) function with a matrix to solve these problems.

YOU CAN USE THE "," COMMA FOR MOVING TO THE NEXT ELEMENT WHEN TYPING A MATRIX

And for a bit bigger thna 3x3 I use the matrix editor (shift+1)

Perfect explanation on how to use the RREF on the prime

You can make a coefficient matrix with your unknowns, then a vertical matrix with the right side of the equations. Just multiply the inverse of the first matrix by the second and you get your answers. [A]^-1[B]. Saves some menu time on the TI anyway, haven't gotten my Prime in the mail yet.

This works on the Prime as well, but I think RREF gets you there with fewer keystrokes.

@@scottcollins7513 I'll have to try that since the menus are different. It'll be a learning curve for sure. Thanks.

@@commenter4799 actually, I might be wrong. Forgot to include navigation to get to RREF. Your way may be superior, after all. I am definitely NOT a Prime power user.

@@scottcollins7513 I like how you can make a matrix in the home screen and love how it natively supports complex numbers. Touch screen makes things much faster, too.

only if I knew that during engineering class... that is perfect to solve complex circuits

It is the sort of thing you would think the teacher/prof would actually point out -- if not RREF, at least the idea of using your calculator to solve 4x4 equations using Matrices.

@@scottcollins7513 yep, the problem is tha he only knew how to solve using the TI-68, and he insisted that no other calculator could do it, when I was looking into this I had no idea that rref would be able to solve it… now it’s too late I already graduated :)

why did HP change their perfect background contrasts from the times of old is a mystery - I battle to see the keys on the prime - long for my 28S - HPs new range of calcs do not even hold a candle to the old machines of the 80's

It WOULD fit the screen if you'd record a video as it should be - in landscape orientation.
Moreover the i age would be way bigger on my screen and not half the screen would be wasted with black areas.
    Duh.

I think in an effort to make the HP Prime "do it all", it is understandably complex (so was the HP48GX, though it had a more "cohesive" approach). Having two modes "Home" and "CAS" makes it even more confusing. The Prime is overkill for my needs these days -- the SwissMicros DM42 is my go to.
