My point about Maat is that none of us really know how/why the Egyptians were so oriented towards death and the afterlife. Yes, ancient Egypt influenced both East and West. But ancient Egypt was quite alien - it was nothing like anything that exists today. We can only look at ancient Egyptian culture from our modernist viewpoint.
