Someone mentioned it in an
ARCV vid but I respect Shingo because of how his character is prob the closest we got about ARCV's stuff about being an entertainer, even if he loses his duels, it doesnt matter to him as long as everyone watching was having a great time so i agree that Shingo is indeed a great character
Sawatari has been the character who has gotten the most laughs and entertainment out of me when watching ARC-V so I applaud his performance and enjoy him - perhaps not as a competitive duelist, but definitely as an entertainer!
My hot take is that Yuma’s original English VA was actually good. I will admit he didn’t do the best job for the first few episodes but as time went on his performance improved much like Yuma’s dueling skills.
Funny given how many preferred how Yuma sounded in the first few episodes
Hot take: Summoned Skull over the Dark Magician any day as Yugi's Ace monster. It got unfairly shafted after Duelist Kingdom, and deserves more love from Konami.
As far as the real game Is concerned, i think they made a mistake by splitting Yugi's iconic Monsters in many different decks....his deck should be aimed to summon retrains of dark paladin, summoned skull, bls and dmoc with most of his other Monster retrained to support them

here's a cool take i came up with: during the yugo vs yuto duel, yuya should've taken the final blow for yuto, causing him to fade away and letting yuto absorb him, making him the new protaganist for a while. since serena took the place of yuzu at the end of season 1, it'd be a nice paralell to see yuto take the place of yuya, showing how this whole interdimensional war has really flipped the world upside down. you can have it so that serena's goal is to find yuzu while one of yuto's goals is to find a way to bring back yuya from within him
The zexal appreciation is so healing to me after dealing with all the hate it got initially. Twelve year old me feels vindicated
That Arc-V rewrite with Yuzu as the MC is really interesting as with the bracelet, we'd have cause to jump back and forth between dimensions instead of dealing with every dimensions plot threads all at once. Also, it could make Yuya into a more interesting deuteragonist who Yuzu has to watch slowly become corrupted due to Zarc's influence and end up saving him from himself.
Other: if reira laugh was strong enough to bring yuzu back and telentransport some cast members to the stadium they could have used that to bring back the interdimensional counterparts back with their own bodies

Monsters Inc-V
My Yugioh hot take is I think the first Yuya vs Shingo duel very early on is one of my personal favourite duels in arc v. not really because of the actual duel itself but because it was a proper action duel. Instead of the characters standing in place and occasionally grabbing an action card they got to roam around, explore the map and use their monsters as tools to help them get across the field and interact with the environment more. It was really cool to see and made me excited to see more action duels like it.
23:45 I'd say Black Magician is the best looking ace. Especially in the Millenium World arc when Mahado became it. Best monster design.

I like GX cause the Duel Spirits get to be characters since some of the cast can see and talk to them and do sometimes go to the Duel Spirit Worlds.
My take: Zarc is, and (possibly) will always be, the single greatest disappointment of the ENTIRE franchise...and yes, Zarc and Ray should have been lovers before Zarc started going insane.
It should have been Leo, tbh. If not Leo then Yuri.

My take (and I don't know how hot it is) is that the Dark Signer arc was an attempt to redo the Atlantis arc in DM. There are way too many similarities between the arcs for it to be a coincidence. And if this is the case then it did a great job, because while the Atlantis arc is a divisive storyline in DM that while some people (including me) like it, it mostly has a negative reputation, the Dark Signer arc in 5D's is often considered one of if not the best arcs in the whole franchise.
Mine: with all the recaps episodes of vrains it could have been used to make a mini arc of Yusaku dealing with his identity revealed like in season 3 as a plot to use mankind against him
Cool in both spiciness and in concept.
Honestly when I saw Decode Talker getting materialized in the real world I thought Yusaku at some point will have to risk his secret identity using it, but at not point he ever had a duel in real life

Nasch is such a well written character, don't know why Dylan didn't consider Nasch as the final villain even though he sort of is

It's insane when you realize ZeXal not only has the best animation, best also developed Protagonist, arguably the best Rivial, and the best best friend\antag in shark, Vector and Tron and his son's

Really happy to see Zexal appreciation - it did so many things right and I wish people would give it another chance.
In the meantime, it will remain one of my favorite YGOs.
27:13 one thing i give yuma, though his treatment to vector was annoying, being all friendly buddy buddy when it was ridiculously obvious that he was going to betray him, i still like that yuma kept going on with his believes, even when they were challenged, and ended actually making vector change as a character.

Number 96 was a piece of Don Thousand all along so in a way he was the final boss.
Honestly, wouldn't mind it as long as Shark vs Yuma portion stays in tact.

Here’s mine. In episode 37 of ARC-V, Yuya and Yuto’s positions should have been swapped. Yuya should have been the one to lose against Yugo and Yuto should have inherited Odd-Eyes, not the other way around. In addition, Yuya should have inherited Sky Magician instead of Smile World. It was his father’s ace, for crying out loud!

I don't know if this is necessarily a hot take, but I would have liked to have seen more of the Arclight family in Zexal. I think it would have been cool to see their family dynamic post WDC. That being said, it wasn't their story.
As someone who adores the Arclight family, yes! Not only did they have some really fun decks with unique gimmicks, I would've also loved to see more story elements and scenes about their characters, how they grew during and after Vetrix' disappearance and transformation and how it affected their brotherhood as each processed it their own way.
Alright, I've got several:
- the shows should come out/be produced less frequently, but be longer, giving it more time to flesh out the story and characters more
- the protagonists should lose more duels (excluding Yuga I guess), including at least once to a rival, to make said rival a better rival in the first place (examples: Jaden losing to Zane and Edo, Yuma losing to Kaito)
- Kaito would be a more interesting protag than Yuma
- Chazz (in general) and Edo (after season 2) are not good rivals, there should have been at least one more match with the actually good rival Zane
- the protags should duel less and the other characters more (to add variety and not see the same person duel so much, to flesh the side characters out and because the side characters are more likely to lose than the protag, so there are more stakes)
- Yami Bakura should have won more duels to make him more of a threat, because his strategies were some of the most interesting and because he is the final boss of DM
Bakura did no diff all the priests and defeat Mahado and Akhenaden. But I get what you mean. I kinda wish YuGiOh had more KA duels than card duels because those were always more interesting imo.
On the subject of Yugioh shows that would benefit from sequel. GX is also good for that. The story could just follow Judai on he's travels, dueling strong duelists a long the way or something. There definitely some story potential there
Absolutely! And maybe see NOT only Judai's perspective and path but also characters like Syrus Chazz and Alexis
Hot take: Crow didn't steal Aki's place. If he didn't exist, Team 5d's wouldn't exist either because Jack wouldn't hang out with just Yusei, a woman he barely knew and two kids. His presence only makes sense with Crow. So without Crow, you can scrap the entire WRGP plot and rewrite everything. And considering that Crow barely did anything against Ylliaster, I don't think a rewrite without him would have helped Aki.
Aki is one of my favourite character, far more than Crow, and I'm saying this. There are TONS of reasons why she was done dirty. From the cult problem to her voice actress getting pregnant to Yoshida taking over the story. Each of those problems cut a significant amount of Aki's screentime and development. Blaming Crow doesn't help when he only got two good duels after Season 2, and one of them was a Tag team with Aki.
If anything akiza could've Never replaced him period. Crow is their younger brother, sibling bonds are stronger than a friendship of a few months. I don't get why everyone is mad at him it's not like she disappeared 🤷
@@Diamondr11Blue It's so misplaced. Like the earliest example they'd use of Crow stealing Aki's place is the duel against Godwin. And I'm like, why do you think Aki's duels at the Fortune Cup were all standing duels? She can't ride! If Crow didn't exist, it's way more likely that it would be just Yusei and Jack vs Godwin. But it somehow became popular to blame Crow.
@@jinkun2629 because the akiza fanblys loved seeing fanservice lmao. Crow had a connection to goodwin (childhood hero) and was already deeply connected to Jack and yusei. In terms of bond akiza was a newcomer
@@Diamondr11Blue I'm an Aki fanboy so I can tell you that fanservice is not really the reason. But yes, Crow even has connection to Godwin and Aki doesn't. Even in the "original scenario" where Crow is the final boss of the Dark Signer arc, it would only makes sense for Jack and Yusei to fight him. So it was going to be mainly about those three no matter what.

Imagine how cool would be if Shun and Yuto were dual protagonists of Arc V. They were the most interesting characters for me.
Shun is my favourite, he's such a badass and seeing more of his Raidraptors would've been fun.
Something I thought about is that Bronk Stone was a terrible friend to Yuma. Before Yuma met Astral, he apparently had never won a duel so his first win was against Shark. And from what we see in the show, Bronk and Yuma have been friends since a very young age. So the show is telling us that despite Bronk supposedly helping Yuma all these years before the show proper, he’d never won a duel against Bronk, meaning Bronk never actually helped Yuma at all. Personally, that is a terrible friend.
Also, in episode 20, Bronk tries to claim that Yuma only got as good as he was at that point because of him, but since Yuma only starting winning with Astral, so that’s evidently false and a blatant lie.
Best "Final Boss" of Zexal IMO was Nasch/Shark, and that probably beats AI only by a little bit.
The Meklord Emperors anime versions should have been used for there real world versions or add least were more inspired by the anime versions.
Would love to see a part 2 at some point!
18:13 you can compare tori vs yuma pre astral.
Because we do have statements from characters saying that yuma was a duelist with a lot of duels before astral showed up, and most of those... If not all, were L's, not only that, after soooooo many duels, and in a show where everyone xyz summons, not knowing how to xyz is probably the most sinful thing a duelist could admit to.

I suppose the reason I thought it was a hot take was because I haven't really heard/ seen a lot of people talking about the Shadow Realm specifically. The Conversation usually seems to go that all 4Kids YGO is bad, with little room to actually talk about and examine it on it's own. At least from what I've seen.

I don’t know if this is a hot take but for me Shingo and Yuya’s duel during the championship arc was one of the best in all Arc-V because:
You can actually see all the effort and improvement of Shingo there, he changed his deck completely, he used pendulums, he didn’t rely that much on action cards, he dominated that duel at first so he got Yuya in a corner and even if he lost it showed the true spirit of an entertainer that is making the audience have fun no matter what. It was a delightful rematch to watch!
Also I think it’s impressive that he completely changed his deck three times during the series, I’m not sure if another character has done that but for me it shows his flexibility, knowledge and talent as a duelist
I don't comment often but ut this was great. More episodes would be awesome!

My personal hot take: Kotori is a better main Yugioh Girl character than every other Yugioh Gallop girl. Yuzu and Aki fell off too hard, while Tea, Asuka and Aoi never took off. Meanwhile Kotori is consistently good throughout all of Zexal with no major character derailments.

I would have liked ARC-V’s finale to have the four Yu counterparts against Zarc as like a spirit or monstrous force that is separated from them somehow. Makes a lot more sense and it can have a lot of good moments if written correctly
my hot take; VRAISN season 2 wasnt as bad as everyone seems to say, i really liked the other Ignis roles in the story especially Lightning and Windy.
even Bohman, he starts off pretty boring but i think he gets alot better later on. People say hes the worst villain in YGO but hes waaaaaaaaaaaay better than lame Leo Akaba lmao
Yeah Bohman is one of the most over-hated characters in the anime imo, he’s the weakest antagonist in VRAINS but he’s better than the long list of villains who are basically one-and-done or are being mind-controlled or whatever. His character and deck are all metaphors for evolution and the threat that AI pose to humanity by being able to change, adapt, and evolve much faster than their creators.
Here's a hot take: The prototype duel disk needs to be brought back and used for a tournament.

Not seeing how DOMA and Dark Signers relate outside of them both having a cult, its leader manipulating a female, and the Spirit World. Dark Signers arc is much closer to the Yugioh manga from its tone and to how it mixed the mundane with the magical.
Anyone else find it unfair that some people Yugi and Atem as duel protagonist but it feels like nobody feels same about Yuma and Astral or Yusaku and AI.
For AI I can understand him just being a main character and comic relief, but for Astral I think he is a protagonist. He had a lot of drama and character development, that didn't always have to do with Yuma, Yuma just helped him out like dealinf with No.96.
Thing is, yugi never had any development like Yuma did as a duelist AND a person. Any hope of that was crushed in DSOD when atem saved him like a damsel in distress. As kaiba said, yugi is nothing more than the Pharoah's vessel
Imo, the problem of astral and yugi is that yugi felt like the heart and atem the body, yugi would be the one to spend time with his friends, and atem would pop up when it was *TIME TO DUEL* , while yuma and astral felt like a pro player trying to teach a game journalist how to play cuphead.

There is a difference between a hot take and a garbage fire take, or just wish-casting.
One I keep arguing: Aoi or _maybe_ Go should have had one of Yusaku's early wins against Bohman.
A tepid one of mine: Mai should either have not been in season 4, or have been given follow-up in the other filler arc they KNEW they had.
A bit warmer: Tiger's stock collapsed the second time she dueled Yuga. She got in the way of the plot, never explained herself, and was generally a book from then on.
Yeah, Mai's arc in Season 4 is pretty good right until it abruptly ends and she loses her soul offscreen.
She (and Joey) could've been treated much better in the Grand Championship. Could've even had one more rematch, no evil involved. Instead she disappears with no real resolution.
I agree with Aki being the most interesting characters. They just shelved her the next season that was depressing she had the most potential

47:30 Yeah. It's like the Seach for Tsunade arc in Naruto. The show was really intense and fast so when it slows down and gets calmer people don't like it.
Ark Cradle only works if you buy into Z-One and his crew and for me, I didn't. The time-travel raise a lot of questions like Z-One claimed he tried thousands of times to change the future and failed, so this was his final solution. First problem, we never saw these attempts. The only one we saw as Paradox with BBT and that movie opens an entire can of worms. Second, it's never explained how this last attempt to nuke an entire city would surly work and when Yusei questioned this, Z-One never answers. So the whole thing comes off as Z-One having a temper tantrum before he dies. Which isn't an issue, except Yusei basically said Z-One was just trying to do the right thing and not call him out dooming a city in hopes that this attempt would work without any backing. Also the retcons, I hate them.
The 5Ds Yugioh Retrospect said it best. It felt like the writers had the ending in mind and work backwards, which caused everything leading to Ark Cradle to make little to no sense if you think about it.
This isn't just a hottake, it's blazing: I think Edo/Aster Phoenix is a better written and more relatable character than Judai/Jaden, and GX would have been a lot more interesting if he was the main character instead.
I was actually really invested in Aster's past, relationship with his father and how his death (or "kidnapping" in the dub) affected how he viewed dueling and playing a certain archetype.
Seeing him duel more people - each with their own reasoning behind the cards they use and dueling as a whole - with Aster struggling with that as he uses them as a tool for justice and revenge due to the Destiny Heroes' ties to his father - would've been such a neat narrative.
I guess his anti hero (no puns intended) persona just appealed to me and it helps that we learnt about the deeper connection with his deck - as well as his past and trauma - before Jaden's, so I was more interested about seeing and learning about Phoenix instead.
@KitsuNerezza Exactly! I felt more for him as someone who probably was into the idea of "destiny" and relying on tarot card predictions at first because I think it was psychological in a way that he liked being prepared for things beforehand so there wouldn't be more "surprises" like his father's death. And I just liked that he was an ordinary person trying to help people and accomplish goal without superpowers and being turned into a "chosen one" with an ancient past like Jaden.

@@Diamondr11Blue A lot of his losses are because he lost against the antagonists of the arc, which he gets back his win, against Luke, mostly to set up the final duel between them , losing to Romin was for her character development and Roa needed a w back for being the only sevens rival to not win against Yuga and the duel was pretty fun imo. Only Tiger, and Yuhi was the only loss that feels kind of random that I feel bad for him.
I guess as someone said, i think most protagonists should have some L's against rivals or antagonist, just not as overboard like Yuga tho. lol.

Hot Take: Anzu is a dueling FRAUD! Sure she has the only 100% win rate in all of the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime (Yusei and Yusaku don't count because they've lost before, even if it was mostly off-screen/flashbacks) but that's only b/c she's only had 2 duels in all of DM (one of which not being canon), and those are ep 1 Jonouchi and in the penguin guy in the VR World arc.
Please don't take this too serious, I really don't care, I just wanted to bring it to peoples attention.

Lmao Schigs. 😂 Also when you think about it, Ai was never really a villain? He acted on his instincts but initially (spoiler alert) did it for Yusakus sake. I was too late on my takes but these were fun. Lol
my biggest hot tak is that the yuma and astral dynamic is better than yugi and atem in every way yumas growth is portrayed better because overtime you see him need astrals advice less and less so we see a steady decilne in a need for his help with yugi he literally gets possesed so it looks like atem is just doing everything and then suddenly hes not theyre relationship growth is also better as they start out antagonistic and then partners then close friends and so when theyre seperated that whole arc hits harder for example yuma will try and talk to astral and realize hes not there the ceremonial duel was also better bigger stakes and the fact that yuma has to fight the number cards he gathered with him
Hot take: Joey vs Valon is the best duel in the series. Its always funny when people dismiss it because "armor and fighting" as if characters don't do absurd things throughout the entire show. I also feel like if Kaiba did it wearing Blue-Eyes armor people would be eating it up.

He does have just as much character growth at least imo but it's just much more subdued and not as drastic as Judai's, whereas Judai's growth is much more in your face and less vague. They REALLY want you to know that judai has grown.
Here's mine. Jaden isnt just the best protagonist in all the series' and the best Duelist, but GX in general has the best supporting cast with only Bastian and Alexis really getting the shaft in terms of duels. If they had gotten 2-3 more duels to show what they got with a solid win eaxh they would be higher rated.
I enjoyed watching this video and I'd like to see more of these in the future. I also agree with the part about the shadow realm. 4Kids basically created Yu-Gi-Oh's version of Hell.
My hot take: I wanted to see more of Yubel in Season 4. If you're going to have the main protagonist fuse his soul with someone that tortured him for most of the season, don't just imply redemption. Actually show the redemption. This is an incredibly biased take. After Season 3, I just wanted to see Judai and Yubel interact a bit more than they did and that's all this hot take boils down to. I just wanted two specific characters to interact more than we got to see.
In my case I would like not only that but that Jaden play Yubel more in duels, somehow add it to his strategy. Honestly it felt like a crime that in Duel Links Jaden/Yubel's ace was Divine Neos instead of Neos Wiseman

The "Tori is not a bad duelist" take is unreasonably funny to me. Early on in Zexal, I believe there's an episode where she literally says she doesn't know how to duel.

Mine is I think Zexal is actually a decent anime. I think Yuma and Shark's final battle was one of the best ones in all of Yugioh.
The best character in Zexel is Reginald Shark why some of his best card decks were humorous like Shark Kraken or Sharkapus from cheesy horror movie ! Yusei has the power of crimson dragon and synchro. No DM duelist is getting past fusion dimension tbh. Even dsod isn't that much of an upgrade compared to what new support and summon mechanics we have now

Ai should have created new programs of the other 5 Ignis that were them in human form to help balance out his teams side.
There could have been a whole arc of ignis clones choosing to abandon AI and living there own life resulting in a series of duels where the characters had to confront each Ignies and there own guilt.

I said this before and I say it again, female duelists are always getting sidelined whatever you do to fix it.
Hot take: I think Jack Atlas is the most badass character in all of yugioh and Yusei needed more character development and growth as character in the show it felt like he had already done his character development offscreen when the show began.

Hot take: People complain about Yusaku but they forget he was tortured and forced to duel. It makes sense he’s such a good duelist because if he messed up he was electrocuted. That would mess you up and it obviously did as we saw with his revenge plot against Hanoi. If I was in his position I’d practice like nobodys business to get to that level just to never feel that level of vulnerability and weakness again. Which is why he needed his connections with A.I. and the cast to open up a bit more.
Leo and viper are actually good characters/ villains that are used as stepping stones and are unfairly hated for it.
If you are talking about Leo Akaba then this take is a 5.
For Viper i give it a 3.
Sergery and his Earthbound Servants should have had a bigger role in Arc V.
Also Arc V has the most wasted potential out of any Yugioh anime and should have been allowed to go past 200 episodes.
I love that my opinions are known for being controversal haha! I do have a lot of hot takes, I don't even think my GX season 3 take is my hottest one (I have a Duel Monsters one that's insanely hot).

An addendum to my take on Revolver, part of the reason I consider him the best anime rival (manga Kaiba + DSOD would be in the running) is that he serves as such a good rival and foil for both Playmaker AND Soulburner. The only other YGO where the main rival serves as a rival to 2 different major characters is Kaiba with Yugi and Joey in DM, and the Kaiba/Joey rivalry doesn’t really have the same payoff that Revolver v Soulburner did. Without DSOD, Kaiba’s rivalry with Yugi/Atem doesn’t really come full circle either. Worth noting that Revolver, with Zuwijo, is the only rival to be the main antagonist of a season as well.
Here’s a hot take: If Yuya was less reliant on Action Cards, he’d be on the same level as the other protagonists. I think his dueling skill suffers significantly from it, and I dont think he needs it. His Pendulum monsters have their own effects when they’re set on the scales
Hot take: Zexal developed their side cast the best out of any of the Yugioh series. Imo all series generally have not just a "female character" issue, but a whole side cast issue. but imo Zexal was the closest to caring about all of them

Another Hot Take: Season 3 of VRAINS would have been better if Studio Gallop didn't shorten it and would of added Miyu and Windy's kid in the main cast instead of the former being use as a motivation for Aoi to fight Lightning's Faction and the latter having an ambiguous fate with the dub saying that he freaking died from that car accident caused by Windy
My hot take: The female leads like Alexis, Akiza, etc. had huge potentials but they became “back-bench characters” as other characters got more spotlight than them. Sure they had their moments but as the shows continue, they kind of “fade away” if that makes sense.
Sherry is better than akiza. Alexis is great but needed more screentime. And Anna trumps tori period

Sure she had her moments but she didn’t do much to contribute to the storyline and I wouldn’t have cared if Sherry was removed. Anna is good and it would’ve been better if she was the female lead instead of Tori since Tori was basically Yuma’s cheerleader or whatever

Mine is completelly the opposite, sherry should have been removed from the show, she didnt add anything to it, in fact, she took the spotlight from aki and somewhat from carly.
I would have liked way more if aki, carly and a third character had made a team, seeing a 3v3 duel between them vs yusei, crow and jack would have been amazing.

Not really a lot of illiaster info, we learned that zone is named after a really bad card... That i think he didnt even use?
I would rather have her plot be centered around akiza instead of her.
Having her learn how to ride and enter the tournament in order to help the team defeat illiaster, also putting the whole "father" plot on akizas father would have been much more effect, since he was a character we knew.
Apart me wants to say this is a hot take, but I feel it's a fact at this point.
Yudias is the worst protagonist in all of Yugioh. He has been reduced to a static character whose only role is to defeat the villain and even when he was first introduced he didn't have much offer besides his history with Zwijo, his experiences as a soilder, and his bond with the twins.
I wish the writers would have made him a serious warrior whose arc was learning that duels could be more then a weapon and to enjoy life outside of combat.
I also find it a shame that show never gave him any family or established he was an orphanage.

My hot take: The four emperors of illiaster (Antinomy, Aporia, Paradox, and Zone) are not only the best villain group in the franchise but the best characters overall
