You're super-critical of speakers that aren't very expensive (currently $130 on amazon), and are about 900 times more attractive than any other desktop computer speaker. If these cost $350 I would agree with your comments, and the cradle is a great idea, but these are extremely nice compared to everything else in the price point, and let's face it, desktop computer speakers are not for critical listening, but gaming and some background music while working, etc. The only reason why I'm not ordering these speakers, is they're a bit large for my desk at 9 inches tall X 5 inches wide. I'm looking for something 6 inches tall X 3 inches wide, and not having much luck. Excellent filming in your video, by the way, looks very professional.
I watched this video on my Luna HD's and couldn't believe what Josh was saying about them. He must have gotten a bad set because mine has really good clarity and midrange along with a surprising amount of low end for something this small.
@@666PANDEMONIUM I'm not saying these are the end all be all of speakers. Far from it. But for the price, they're pretty damn good. Would I like to have the Vanatoos, yes. But I got my Luna's on Amazon for $149. That's pretty tough to beat.
It’s a bit harsh criticising the angled faces when 95% of desktop speakers are simple boxes with 90° angles, so you have to elevate them or stump-up for stands anyway.
The soundrise stands seem to be exact copy of Stargeek speaker stands with double the price? I suggest you search those on amazon if you need em. I hope this gets pinned, soundrise prices are not justified.
Really enjoyed this quick discussion on the usability of the speaker. Intelligently thought out and articulated, Josh! Would love to see more content like this.
I got an early set of these from edifier back in 2013 to test/review and have been using them all this time. I totally agree with you on all your points, aesthetically they are pretty but would've benefited from some design choices. Soundwise they are definitely boxy but had a better mid-bass than I thought they'd have. Great review.
After much research I just got the Edifier E25HD Luna Eclipse for $163 (including tax + shipping). It is hard to find a pair of speakers which perform as well, and look as good for a similar price. They perform very close to iLoud Micro Monitor and the Audioengine A2+ which would have cost me at least $100 more. Of course, the speakers have compromises (all do), they are relatively small and were designed first and foremost as PC speakers. I think its important to note, that these are relatively small speakers and have advantages in areas in which space is a premium.
you forgot to mention that if it had a round design and rubber cradles so you can set the angle.. the rubber cradles could have doubled as surface sound/vibration isolation stands.
The Micca RB42's are pretty amazing little speakers. But they are passive so require something to power them, I'm guessing that's why he recommended Micca's little active speaker which I believe is modeled after the MB42's. The RB42's area also really small (the look to be about 1/3 the size of my KEF ls50's) and look really nice (subjectively of course).
Hi Josh, do you have a software equalizer that you would recomend? I listen to music by passing music from my pc digitally through the USB port to my dac/amp. I'm looking for good software to help me tune the response of my music without distorting it.
I've tested all Edifier Luna series including the e255 and the e235. They're totally not "edifier sound" and sounds very meh compared to their basic sets which sound way much better. But I really liked your suggestion about the cradle adjusting angle height. What a shame Edifier didn't do that.
Are the e255s worth it? I've been eyeing them for a while for a small apartment surround sound set up but I also want my speakers to add a design element that matches the rest of what I have.
@@roboteen As a design piece yes. And they work well with all the tech installed. They'll fit great in small apartment. In fact if you just want a speaker upgrade over a tv speaker, this is plenty amazing as it is. My biggest concern is that the cables is pretty thick for a wireless setup especially the front speakers connecting to the center channel. They are proprietary so you can't really snip it to replace.
@@ducttaperulestheworl awesome, thanks for the fast reply! Looks like I'll be buying some, I'm hooking it up to a projector, it has Harmon kardon sound but with my current setup I don't like the sound being centralized behind me and conforming to the bookshelf it sits on....
I have those in my gaming setup in white , the sound is surprisingly good for the price I also have kef q300 q200c 5.1 setup and the edifier Luna are great considering the size , price and look
I have these speakers, and when playing games or watching TH-cam videos they make this popping sound in low frequencies/bass moments. Doesn't really happen on Spotify though. Any idea what the problem could be? Btw I don't have an external dac or amp. Yet.
Well, i think this is the first time i went back to watch an Ad again. Good for you, man! Soundrise better be paying you well for that little masterpiece!
If Soundrise is a sponsor you should really be disclosing that in the video or at the very least in the description below it. I think it’s disingenuous to put it at the beginning of your review without any disclaimer
That sponsor spot got me confused in the beginning. Lol Usually people give summary of what they reviewing then say something like "after a word from today's sponsor" or something like that.
Josh, make video on the motorcycle helmet/s you have.....Seen them on your videos. Love the colours of it and would like to know their names as well!!!
Last year i was thinking about buying the luna 5.1 set, but chose the S350DB instead, love it, never looked back, no regrets. Edifier makes very good value speakers.
The ad in the soundraiser looks useful. I have this small Bluetooth speaker on my office desk. As small as it is, can still feel vibration when resting hand on keyboard.
I find the egg like shape enclosure to be very smart choice against square box - reduces internal standing waves, but why they divided the enclosure ?! Ah, the passive radiators. Hmm, why not put the PR on the sides😕, stupid design choice. Oh, well
Josh you have said nothing about the HeddPhone, i have just made a pre-order payment from scan in the U.K. I am hoping i am going to love them. Chose them over your highly recommended Arya., just with sonic perfomance in mind, and as for the weight, i am clenching my teeth hoping its not going to be an issue
Wait, why did Lockpick Lawyers get a shout out XD Is it to do with bypassing security/protection measures with little effort? Was kinda surprised to hear him mentioned
Let's start from the basics. The red bar over the tweeter has nothing to do with protecting the tweeter. It is there to enhance the high frequencies dispersion. You can go buy stands for these. Speakers that cost x5 times the price come with stands as extra if you are willing to spend more. They sound way way better than any other 2.0 PC speaker out there.
"They sound way way better than any other 2.0 PC speaker out there." I would say they can sound quite good but only after very difficult tuning. You can listen to music at factory settings only if they are placed on the table in front of you at a distance of 1 meter (as “computer speakers” are usually located). With a different arrangement and increasing distance, a strong decrease in high frequencies and an uncontrolled increase in low frequencies are felt. The result is a dirty, dull sound.
We talk about speakers. Why all the desing??? When it comes to sacrifise the audio quality no thick super solid and hyped design can move me at all. and of course thats a strictly personal opinion!!! excelent video AS ALWAYS!!!
I don't really think it was scathing. He said they sounded fine, but not great for the price, and they're obviously a more looks-focused design. And that's fine. He even recommended them to a certain niche of people.
@@CockatooDude "He even recommended them to a certain niche of people." I can even name these people...😀 These are two categories. The first are those whose subwoofer in the car rumbles throughout the entire street. The second is those who understand how to place speakers in a room and adjust their sound with an equalizer
Mine have digital input, it is like the chromecast music device (through the same 3,5mm input). The sound is really good, please be aware it costs around $160, so it is cheap for the sound it delivers. It is a bargain. I totally disagree with this review.
I think the review is a bit harsh and hasty. There are by no means audiophile speakers ... you could call them as sounding "furniture" and for a furniture, it does that pretty well. I would have started this review by advertising this product for those interested in some aesthetics brought to their room without being too picky on sound overall and also on a budget (sounds like the exact thing for a teenager). Their slim body make them perfect for desks, bookshelves (with actual books on them), etc.. It is you first review that sounded actually like a rant and I did not enjoyed it as much as I did on the others. Your positive thoughts and the ability to find the perfect "audience" for a product, was a thing that was differentiating your channel by the others. Anyways, I love how you express your opinion on products and also the neutrality used on reviewing. Keep up with the good job !
