    Thanks. I'm an old shade-tree mechanic from the 1970's, and I learned more about transmissions. I turned 69 years old one month ago, but I'm still learning.

      Thanks man I try. I'm still trying to figure out how I want to do my channel, so I figured I'd start by doing videos That I'd like to see. I hate it when people aren't very descriptive and miss out on the little details.

      That's the way to do it. If there are videos you want to see, it's certain there are people that want to see the same videos. Plus, it adds personalization to your channel, which helps your identity. 😊

    I been watching tons of videos on this transmission. Overdrive gears are a big problem. My Sun and Planets were completely stripped on overdrive so I had lost 2nd, 4th, and 5th.
    I was told to order the Superior Shift Kit because it has you drill holes to supply more fluid to the overdrive section. Also, has a modified Flow Control Valve for the pump to prevent the valve from being stuck open. Was told that makes the transmission stop from working altogether if it gets stuck open.
    To be honest, if the sprag was busted like that the overdrive band might be worn. I'd recommend getting at least a gasket and seal rebuild kit. If the clutches don't seem worn and the clearances are in spec, you shouldn't need clutches.
    Also check the servo bores to see if there's any play in them. Some tranny experts resleeve them regardless. I took my case to the transmission shop to have them resleeve the servos because that tool kit is expensive. However, seeing your engineering skills you might be able to make your own tool for it.
    Lastly I been told to check the rubber molding on the servo pistons. They tend to get hard and flake overtime if your tranny overheats. BTW, the shift kit also solves the overheating issue because it updates the internal thermostat so that it keeps sending fluid to the radiator.
    Sorry for the long comment. I been doing months of research and asking questions 😅. Great to see other transmission DIY enthusiasts. Great job 👍!

      I will definitely look into the kit. I noticed the seals on the servos didn't look the greatest but they weren't leaking, will probably replace. Thanks for the info because I was unsure of which direction I wanted to go in.

    Thank you bro for sharing that, i have exact same issue with my mazda b4000 and i think some mustang have the same automatic transmission. I dont like to admit it but look like i have to pull it out

    • @octanedrivendream
      @octanedrivendream  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's never a fun job and can easily take 2-3x longer than it should. I know the mazda is a smaller truck, but hopefully the Trans tunnels has plenty of room. The mustangs are a pain to get the top bellhousing bolts.

    I just bought a 2008 v6 mustang, and guess what. Yonight it decided to do the no drive or reverse. I had to drive it home using 1,2,3. Not good.
    So, did you decide on doing a complete rebuild, just replacing the skrag, or manual swap? I didnt see any more videos about it.
    Thank you. This doesn't look like a hard(ish) thing to do. Guess Im going to drop transmission tomorrow and start pulling it apart.

  • @Isjix4410
    @Isjix4410 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I do NOT advise it, but I have picked the entire transmission up (a 5r55s) and lightly bumped the face of the bellhousing onto a piece of cardboard and dropped the pump out with a few other gut pieces, but this can damage something. it does work in a pinch especially if you're as crazy as I am :D

    • @Isjix4410
      @Isjix4410 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I also recommend replacing the input shaft before installing the pump as i've messed up the splines on my new OD planet and had to get another one

      If my homemade puller didn't work, I would have spent the cash and waited. I want to do the least amount of damage possible 😂 Thanks for the tip though, I'll keep it in mind when I reinstall.

    I have the same problem but a Little different, with 1,2,3 Gear manual work good, with drive or reverse if you rev the engine It want to go but slips and move very very few. What do you think?

    • @octanedrivendream
      @octanedrivendream  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's exactly what mines was doing. It would drive in 1,2,3 but not in drive or reverse. You probably have the same problem. When the Trans gets hot, it makes the cage of that bearing brittle and it breaks.

      Holy shit man good lookin! Good thing it's tore down. I just went and looked and one of the gears is missing one of the outer ones. They also look different then the ones you linked. They are missing a side like a c clip, or are they not supposed to be that way?

    • @octanedrivendream
      @octanedrivendream  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I know the feeling. For now, I purchased the sprag, a need band, and a pump seal kit. It's was around $60 for those things vs $300+ for a rebuild kit. Now it can drive until I come across a capable manual Trans for a decent price.

      I'm not sure what you're talking about. The wavy bronze piece in the middle of the shaft? If so, I'm not positive but I think it's an oil control ring for the planetary gears.
