I remember this Article. Mike knows what he is talking about for sure. Something I would had, your units will break so make sure to plan for retreat paths in advance, and identify possible safe havens.
It would be neat to see them give the game a proper digital treatment. There have been a few attempts over the years, but with today's graphics and interfaces, it could make it really playable. I guess the fear is that there aren't that many people like you or myself out there who would buy it instantly
Hasbro, who owns WotC, holds the license. They have a licensing agreement for the PHYSICAL game with Multi-Man Publishing that gets renewed periodically. The digital rights are held by Hasbro pretty tightly. They allowed it to be used back in 1999 or 2000 maybe for a turn-based tactical shooter that was a WW2 take on Jagged Alliance. It bombed and angered a lot of ASL and SL fans. The digital version of this IS VASL.
People have been trying to make an ASL computer game for 40 years...and give up every time, or change the game to a dumbed down version. Don't hold your breath.
thanks for the vid, i own ASL starter kits 1 & 3 , ASL seems daunting and i only play solo , any advice helpful , and finding the webpage with all the General mags are fab.
Boardgamegeek.com will be a great place to start. I know that there's a lot of threads on various websites discussing strategy and such. Perhaps Reddit, as well?
I totally get what you're saying, but the rules for ASL are something else. But if you know what weapons you can use against which targets, for example, you will have an actual tactical advantage against your opponent.
That's Table Top Simulator, just a game table (like Vassal). The closest thing you'll find to an ASL computer game (with computer AI opponent) is the game Second Front.
Not all armor is immune to small arms fire. There are several ways armor can be defeated by infantry. Definitely unlikely (pun intended), but not impossible.

That's a great fundamental tip, and one that's easy to overlook
I'm reading this very article right now. Excellent choice of article to summarize.
Great! I did the best I could to distill it! Thanks for watching!
@@LegendaryTactics IMHO you did a fantastic job. And Mike McGrath is one of the best ASL players ever.
The greatest game ever and I play many wargames. Been playing since release
That's excellent! I would like to play it, but it seems so complex...!
@@LegendaryTactics we all have different levels of complexity tolerance. Try a starter kit cheap and you can see if you would like it
Managing your own morale (and patience) is probably the best advice for playing almost any wargame.
That's true! But it was emphasized in the guide, so I had to include it
If they consider releasing on iOS, I would buy instantly.

@@LegendaryTactics Yes, I love ASL and I used to work at Wizards of the Coast, which owns Avalon Hill. They have no interest in doing it.
Sad.

@@LegendaryTactics VASL is a thing, you can play on just about any platform.

What does it mean to use mortars in "direct fire mode"? Isn't mortar fire always treated as indirect fire?
Normally, yes. But here is an article that touches on direct fire with mortars: boardgamegeek.com/thread/299088/making-mortars-worth-their-weight
@@LegendaryTactics Thanks! It's a house rule, then?
Read the rules!! Great tip!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂

You might be surprised on how many ASLers DON"T read the rules.
Thanks, good stuff.
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
We covered this many years ago, but we did not have the cool graphics.
There is a lot of cool tech now that makes our channel more watchable!
@@LegendaryTactics Great job on all fronts!
Behold the Glory
Oh yeah
Shooting into my own melee (where I'm the underdog) is a tried and true scummy tactic. 😂
Ha ha, love it!
Very cool.
Thank you!
Are you using an ASL computer game in your demonstrations here? Ive been looking for a PC game of SL/ASL for ages and never have found one...
That's Table Top Simulator, just a game table (like Vassal). The closest thing you'll find to an ASL computer game (with computer AI opponent) is the game Second Front.
@@ASLAcademy Cheers. I tried 'Tigers on the Hunt', but it was expensive rubbish.
What is "Tigers on the Hunt"? I am not familiar with that.
Thanks for that!
Tabletop Simulator or try Vassal Engine with the VASL module

Yes, I think the author meant that in broad terms. Where there's a will (and a lucky die roll), there's a way!
