    How do these compare with EcoTech dosers, and to your knowledge do the EcoTech have a large stepper motor or a standard small motor?

    • @ReefDudes
      @ReefDudes  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ETM ones are a cusom moter/gears inside. Both work well for low or large volumes of water. ETM advantage is its standalone and much quieter than the dos. For doing small amounts throughout the day either work well. for high volume or continuous use i would pick the versa

    Do you find it easier to set up your dos to dose Alk and Calcium each split up for 24hrs? Or do you dos Calcium for 12 hrs and Alk for the other 12 hrs(usually at night) Seems like it would be more stable to dos both over a 24 hr period...but will it precipitate?

  • @jeffjarry4257

    One question on the time set up does apex determine of much to dos say like in a 6 hr span 40 ml will it dos every hour to get the 40ml within the 6 hours. Or do I set it . I'm dosing 40 ml a day of two part that's all for now. Thanks for the great video

    • @ReefDudes
      @ReefDudes  5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi. Thanks for your videos again. I have a question about the salt mix. I want to do the daily water change the same as you do with the Apex DOS, and I am using the Red Sea Coral Pro salt for mixed tanks, but according to it says you should not mix more than 4 hours or store for more than 12 hours. So how should I do in this case please? If I program DOS to change a gallon per day, it would be approximately 55 days to empty the tank. (Can I store the water for so long? If so, should I mix it every day before I make the change or do some kind of programming so that it mixes alone? I have a station with a 55gal tank for Ro / DI and another for 55 gal to prepare the salwater. I have doubts about this because I would like to automate it just like you. Thanks for your help

    • @ReefDudes
      @ReefDudes  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You should be fine. I suspect the eleved levles like alk will likely drop but the water is still "good" if your dosing anyways and doing small dialy water changes i wouldnt worry about it too much.

    • @johnmy2985
      @johnmy2985 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ReefDudes Thank you. And do I mix it only the first time? Then I leave it in storage until it is finished without mixing again? Is this how you do it? I wrote you a few days ago on Patreon about what you asked me about the Dinos. I already bought the Dr tim Waste away and the re fresh. But I am afraid that something will happen to my corals and the few fish and shrimp I have left. Can I do it without problems and the 3 dark days without light and without food for corals and fish? I have lost almost all the fish and I don't know what is happening, according to the tests I have done, everything seems fine. I am a little disappointed in all this

    Hey Deven. Super helpful video! Quick Q: do you run any in-line check valves on the unit? Also, I read a reef2reef thread on air bubbles getting into the system, and the users recommended replacing the tightening components of the DOS with others. Any need for this? Cheers

    • @ReefDudes
      @ReefDudes  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you can get a threaded to push connector which is a better solution. As long as the connections are tight you shouldn’t get any air in the lines

    A while back you did a review on the Coral Box WiFi dosing pumps. Are you still using it? If you had to choose between the Neptune DOS and the Coral Box WiFi dosing pump which would you say was better and why? I recently set up a 210g salt tank and a dosing pump is most likely going to be my next purchase. I already have an Apex so that's not a problem. I like that the Coral Box dosing pump has 4 heads. I can dose the basics, as needed, Alk, Mag, and Cal. If I wanted to dose at least those three elements, I'd have to buy two of the Neptune DOS'. Thoughts?

    • @ReefDudes
      @ReefDudes  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes the Coralbox is on my Nano and the DOS is on my big tank. The DOS is a better pump but its also more then double the price... especially you want more than 2 heads.. so i would say it depends on your budget. I had CA/Alk on mine (and added Mag manually once a month) .. now i'm automnating it all :P

    • @AcuaTV
      @AcuaTV 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Why didn't you put the DOS in the nano? I feel that that needs more accuracy from a doser than the big tank which can handle slight changes in the dosing pump dosage.

    • @ReefDudes
      @ReefDudes  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The DOS only works with the APEX which is on the big tank :) That and it makes me happy when things match :)

    • @mtkregs
      @mtkregs 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ReefDudes One thing I've experienced, with my Coralbox doser, is that I have to keep check valves on each side of the pump heads or it won't keep prime. Dev, I noticed you are not using check valves on the DOS...assuming it doesn't have issues keeping prime? If I decide to purchase an Apex (tough decision for an old school reefer) I may also purchase the DOS for my 2 part...if it is of that much better quality.
