    Im glad you brought up the fact about interest rate hikes. The impact of interest rate hikes on the car market has become increasingly evident. Cars that would have been sold within weeks 18 months ago are now sitting on the market for months. This slowdown has led to a decrease in prices across all enthusiast cars. Many individuals purchased these vehicles with variable loans, and now their repayments are being significantly affected. Another contributing factor to the declining car prices is the reluctance of banks to lend money as they did before. Obtaining a $50,000 loan to buy a skyline, silvia, xr6, or any other car has become much more challenging. People are now faced with a difficult choice between keeping their house or holding onto their toy, and often it is the latter that needs to be sold. The overall lack of cash in the economy has further exacerbated this situation. In my personal prediction, car prices will continue to decline for the next 2-3 years, as there is typically a delayed reaction to interest rate hikes. After that period, we may start to see enthusiast car prices gradually rise again, albeit at a much slower rate than before. Therefore, my advice to anyone in the market is to wait until the end of the year or even early next year to secure a good deal. That's the approach I'm personally taking as well.

      Agreed, sale of enthusiast used cars are not moving like previously, with many sellers also reluctant to lower from covid prices. Once fixed home loans start expiring later this year etc prices will begin to fall. WA seems to have higher prices due to less economy of scale and less choice of used enthusiast cars. R32 is the version with legit motorsport heritage, r33 meh, r34 just movie hype.

    I picked up my 34 gtt (2dr black manual turbo) about a week ago after doing a self import, after all things considered and having the compliance workshop replace a couple of faulty things (pcv, a couple of decaying wiring, some breather tubes etc plus the compliance stuff) i ended up paying pretty much smack on 40k. Car is a really good start and really healthy, just have a boost leak to knock out and needs some paint work and its pretty much perfect. I know 40 is still a decent amount but i haven't seen anything close to what I have for under 55. Will be interesting to see how the market changes over time.

    Life can be funny sometimes - just as I'd gathered the money needed for a good quality R32 (non GTR), they shot up in price but it was a blessing in disguise because I've learnt I don't really want one (even though it was my dream car for 15+ years) as I'd rather build a car up how I like it without worrying about it being so valuable. Context - Figured out I want to get good at rally driving and a Skyline just wouldn't work with my mechanical sympathy.

    Regardless of what people think about the prices on these cars will never collapse. These cars will be short in supply and high demands in the next few years which means it will drive up the prices even more. Majority some of us can only dream of owning one.

    • @MrGrentch
      @MrGrentch 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Or...that's precisely what people believe in the middle of an asset bubble. There was a good example in the last few years with Rolex watch prices. They went completely nuts, 'influencers' gushing over them, couldn't get away from the things on TH-cam and thosethose pushing the mantra, experts claiming the prices were here to stay, buyers and 'investors' and dealers pumping the throttle to silly degrees and all saying it's not a bubble. Until it popped.
      Now these cars aren't going to fall down to 15k again, but _imho_ the silly prices thing is finite. It's primarily driven by US buyers and their 25 year rule, and a large enough number willing to throw ever bigger chunks of cash at the cars, and too many buying into the hype and JDM BS from some dealers too I'm sorry to say, many for 'investment' purposes in the years before they become legal to import to the US. Nissan added fuel to the fire with their myriad tiny run special editions. The Fast & Furious angle drives it too(The R32 is the actual gamechanger"Godzilla' that dominated racing, not the 34). So I can see it going up for the next couple of years, but again in my humble it's on the clock. at least for the "basic" trim examples. The only one made type specials will always garner some sort of a premium.

    The pricing for things like skyline gtt and gtst, s13, s14, rx7, even non turbo skyline and supras is crazy. As much as the rising cost if living sucks with mortgage, groceries and fuel, I'm hoping the car prices come back to reality so I can afford one someday. There is no way I'd pay 90k for an r34 when I'd rather own 90k more of my house and in my mind they should still be a sub 20k car

    • @gavinr9107
      @gavinr9107 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The prices are not crazy, a little inflated however you need to be realistic as well. These are all the hero JDM sports cars that are now classic, rare and highly desirable for enthusiasts and collectors. It is a global market. There were a sub 20K car 10-15 years ago - when there were a lot more available to purchase and 20K had more purchasing value in terms of inflation. What your stating is the equivalent of the old man at the newsagency 'back in my day The Sunday Times cost 90 cents'....

      @@gavinr9107 I agree that he did not take inflation and the fact that it is a global market into account. However, I find value in his comment in regards to the rising cost of living. It's truly a shame, but unless you have a lot of disposable income, it's very hard for someone to justify spending 50-60K on a 20ish year old car when that price can get them a very reliable new car or even a solid deposit on a house. I get it, it's a hobby and therefore should be second to necessities, but, it's just a shame that more people can't access these amazing things.

    To be honest, I have owned and raced one of Australia's fastest R34GTR's and with a few records acquired.
    Everyone loved my car........ Except me. Sure it was amazing, extremely low kms, $140k plus spent on mods etc, but to track it and do track days in it was enormously expensive.
    Like 120-130 dollars per minute in maintenance and running costs.
    Most people don't realise this and never really understand the reality of owning such a car.
    I sold it for a profit a few years ago, but nothing for what they go for now and whilst I thought about the "what if's" and sold it now for huge profit, I would have easily consumed that profit in running costs.
    If I had of just cruised it on weekends and not done track days anymore, yes it would have been a lot better by a mile, but at heart I am a racer and this car should be getting used.
    It also is not the fastest car on a race track, the chassis and weights is not very balanced to something as good as an MX5 or Lotus etc and the RB engine is too long and heavy up front for a proper front end feel.
    I had my day in a 34 and 33 GTR and whilst I enjoyed it and went fast, I don't miss them for one minute, the popularity is driven by Fanboys and mania than a real engineering masterpiece, because the reality is, they are not as fast as many people believe and much more development could have gone into them in a few key areas.
    Sure I could easily smash GT3RS Porsches and 458 Ferraris etc by a few seconds per lap, but when you start looking at fully modified MX5's for a fraction of the cost for building and maintaining, the GTR makes little sense.
    I sold my last GTR and bought a 510kg LMP3 Sports Prototype and whilst I am 6 seconds per lap faster around a 1 minute race track, I can do it for atleast 1/6th of the running costs.
    If you want to just look cool and want the attention of every other amateur car enthusiast, sure buy one.
    But if you want to actually go fast and do it wisely, there are plenty of other ways to do it.
    Thanks for the video mate.
    BTW, I did a 55 around Wanneroo years ago in my LMP3 car. I never ran the GTR there sadly, but a 1min dead or 0:59 would have been possible I reckon.

  • @rakeau
    @rakeau ปีที่แล้ว

    I wouldn't think interest rates would affect prices much, at least not directly, because you're probably not buying these cars on finance/credit. Cost of living in general, the car market in general, some people being forced to sell their toys, well, maybe. All of that stuff is going to push prices around.
    I've long anticipated that the prices will go up when America can import them. Glad I've hung onto mine. Already had 2 people leave notes on it with their phone numbers asking if I want to sell it - and I didn't even have to drive it anywhere, it was parked in my own driveway.
    Edit: Also, for anyone considering one .. Don't hack it up to make a GTR replica. Just don't. There's way more difference than just the engine, gearbox and AWD. The interiors and seats are different, the bodies are different (GTRs are wider), panels are different (some aluminum vs steel), the wheels are different, the brakes are different, the battery is relocated, honestly the only parts that are the same are probably the glass and the door handles and that's about it. People will pick fakes a mile off. Be true to the car, keep them clean, mod them tastefully at most, treat them with respect.

      @RossReviewsau  ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely interest rates have played a part in the car market lately.. it’s not that people are financing them it’s that they have much less extra income due to higher rates on their mortgages

I would spend 70k on a R35 before i pay 50k for a non GTR. You gotta put in at least 15k to make the GTT viable. It just doesn't make sense at a logical level to pay so much for a platform that has a limit for what you can do to push it to its max of 500hp for a rb25, especially when you can buy a G/V35 for dirt cheap and build a 500hp vq or swap whatever in it for half the cost of importing a gtt.

      Well, sure if you are looking at buying one of these on a loan that might be a very poor financial decision - but yeah, a lot of people do have $50K in the bank to spend on a car - and a lot more to be fair. Personally I have been paying cash for cars for the last 20 years, because usually borrowing money on a car is a double-loss situation - you lose on depreciation, and you lose on interest. Last couple of years have been wacky with low interest, and many cars that were depreciating suddenly appreciating for a number of reasons - but that's now going back to the status quo as interest rates skyrocket and the global supply chain recovers.
