loving this series...and wow Gary Oldman worked non stop in the 90's! Def worth watching to the end. For me your honorable mentions were even better than the top 10.
yeah Gary Oldman was on fire in the 90s! Such a great actor. He's one of those uniquely talented people who can pull off just about anything. I even loved him in True Romance as Drexel! LMAO! Thanks for watching and dropping a comment!
Great list Fuzz. I just purchased The Game from Amazon , I had never heard of it and I really like David Fincher so thanks for bringing it to my attention!
No problem! Thanks for watching! Great pickup too... I hope you enjoy. It's a great film, especially the first time watching it (It's got a hell of a twist). If you like David Fincher's other films, you'll probably really enjoy it. I think it's even one of his better films.
Fantastic list Fuzz. I've missed a few of those, (especially Absolute Power), so they're now on the hit list. 😜👍 Ps. The Game is awesome. Watched it in the cinema when it came out. Also I can't stand Decaprio as well. 😂
Yeah definitely check out Absolute Power. That's a great film with a solid cast. Also, great to find someone else who feels the way I do about DeCRAPrio.😆 He's definitely quite high on my "bug the sh*t out of me" list.🤣😉 Thanks for watching!

Event Horizon is my #1 from '97. It may not have been that year's best movie, but it's my favorite. I can't count how many times I've seen it. I'm still hoping against hope that somewhere the master footage is waiting to be found, and we'll get a director's cut.
Oh I totally get it! Event Horizon is definitely near and dear to me. The funny thing is, I was only lukewarm to the film the first time I saw it. But I kept landing on it whenever I was channel surfing... that thing played all the time on cable, etc. So I grew to love it over time. So by the time it came to 4K. I was super stoked to finally add it to the collection. I hope we get that director's cut too some day, but from what I've read, the outlook seems pretty bleak. Great to hear from you Chad! Thanks for watching and chiming in!
Great video Fuzz! It's funny to me that you brought up Starship Troopers. Amazon just sent me a notification today saying I might like it. It's at a Black Friday price and it got a thumbs up from you so I'll probably get it. 😃
Oh yeah, definitely pick it up then. It's probably pretty cheap right now. I think I may have bought it on a BF deal too when I got mine a couple years back. It's kinda cheesy and over-the-top, but it's a ton of fun. If you like Verhoven's style in Robocop and Total Recall, you'll probably dig this one as well. He dips pretty heavily into satire without it necessarily seeming overtly satirical. Anyway, thanks for watching Paul! Great to hear from you!
Wow! The Edge, Con Air & Jackie Brown are some big favorites of mine. The Edge is in my top 5 - the introvert surviving, the great performances of Hopkins & Baldwin, the dialogue, betrayal & forgiveness, all that, I love it. I agree, Jackie Brown is my favorite Tarantino movie too - the dialogue between the characters is just so rich. And Con Air is just a blast!
Right on man! Yes, all great films that hold a special place in my heart... the 90s really was such an amazing decade for movies. So many great memories watching these films over and over back in the day. Great to see someone else who has Jackie Brown as their favorite Tarantino too. I've long wanted Tarantino to return to that kind of vibe... give us another Jackie Brown-type film, only with a different story. Thanks for watching!
Hi Fuzz. Wow! 1997 was an amazing year for great movies. I didn’t realise just how many were released. We don’t seem to see the same amount of high quality / wide variety crowd pleasers these days. The 90’s were so good 😊
Yeah I totally agree. In many ways, I kind of feel like the 90s was the last great decade for movies. We just don't seem to get as many of those types of movies as much anymore. I mean, we still get some decent movies from time to time. But there's just something missing from many modern movies that we used to have more of: a certain charm and tone that seems to have been somewhat lost in time. But yeah, I was shocked to see how many bangers came out in 1997.. more than I had room for on my list even LOL! Thanks for watching and chiming in Richard!
@ I agree ‘97 was a year full of bangers! Keep up the great work Fuzz. Enjoy watching your take on the movies and blu ray releases. Think I’d like to see your list of the best DTV releases and so bad but good guilty pleasure movies 👍👍👍
Great list. A decent year. My favourite 10 are: 10 Tomorrow Never Dies 9 The Rage 8 Air Force One 7 Batman And Robin 6 I Know What You Did Last Summer 5 Con Air 4 Wishmaster 3 Scream 2 2 L.A. Confidential 1 Jackie Brown
Very cool that you're a big Jackie Brown fan too! It's such a well-done film. Great list. You've got a couple I've not seen yet (Wishmaster and the Rage), but yeah, there were so many great films that came out in 97. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Before Hateful Eight and Once Upon A Time In Hollywood came out Jackie Brown was my favorite and they may just be sneaking ahead because I haven't watched them 20 times yet.
I didn't care for Once upon A Time as much as his other films (although I didn't dislike it either). But I did like Hateful 8 quite a bit. Generally I tend to prefer the earlier Tarantino films overall, but I think Hateful 8 is probably my favorite of his later-career movies. I'm a huge Kurt Russell fan.
I enjoyed Event Horizon when i saw it last month (after you recommended it). I know i'd love it even more if a director's cut was released restoring more gore.
Yeah it's kind of a bummer that the extra footage is apparently lost on that, so it appears we'll never get it... unless it somehow pops up somewhere. But I think the extra stuff may have not been preserved (i.e. it was destroyed), because the studio freaked out when they saw the original cut Anderson had in mind. So they only preserved the final theatrical cut source elements. It's too bad, because I would've loved to have seen his original intended vision.
Forgot this from earlier, i have Starship Troopers on 4k UHD Steelbook when someone said it was going oop, got it for under £30, slightly long, but great effects, seen the sequel but years ago, needs an upgrade, just like Trancers 2 !!! Good video fuzz
Thanks for watching! Yeah I love Starship Troopers... fun ride. I've never seen the Trancers movies, so maybe I'll have to check those out at some point.
Omg fuzz, this was my childhood here, all the mindless but entertaining action films, event horizon was the first film that made me scared of the dark lol. Such an epic list here. Titanic really is an epic movie no doubt. Air force One showed Gary old man as a great villain, second to his portray in Leon the Professional. Also these were the years we got Nicolas cage at some of his finest. Couple movies I would add is The devils advocate, Keanu reeves does a horrible southern accent and Al Pacino is one of the best portrayals of the devil. The Relic is one of my favorite creature features. Mimic by Guillermo Del Toro is a great monster film as well. I also have a soft spot for the Peacemaker with George Clooney, great action suspense.(Let’s not forget the best Batman movie with him came out this year as well Batman and Robin 😂). What a great video I had so much fun listening to your love for these films
Hi Jorden! You mentioned some awesome movies. I love Devil's Advocate! I totally forgot all about it, but that it another one I used to watch all the time. Keanu was hilarious -- "I don't lose, I win!!" LOL! That's one I need to get on physical media. I also have Mimic on blu-ray (although I think it has a 4K now... or will soon). Good movie. And I agree with you about Gary Oldman... he's always good, but Leon the Professional is one of his best roles as a villain. Thanks for watching my friend. Great to see you!
I'll have to give The Edge a watch, never seen it. A fun movie from '97 still missing on Blu-ray is McHale's Navy, and a movie I still need to get is 8 Heads in a Duffel Bag.
Yes The Edge is excellent, especially if you happen to be a fan of Anthony Hopkins. I loved his character in this film. A solid film. Thanks for watching!
Yeah I hear ya... I've seen it many times myself. Such a well-done film. I love some of the social and existential questions it raises. And the cast is top notch too.
I cringed when I didn't see Titanic in your top 10 but love your honesty. Here are 4 movies in my top 10 for 1997 that you did not mention. L.A. Confidential, Donnie Brasco, Gattaca & Boogie Nights.
i don't think I've ever seen LA Confidential... it just never seemed like my cup of tea. But I did like Gattaca and Boogie Nights. And I remember thinking Donnie Brasco was pretty decent too. Thanks for watching and weighing in!
Are you a fan of Robocop and/or the original Total Recall? If so, you might really like Starship Troopers. It's not quite as good as those other two films, but it's the same director, so it very much has some similarities in tone (especially with the satirical/subtext component). It's a little over-the-top and "in your face" (for lack of a better characterization), but it's a lot of fun. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Two top tier movies you did not mention LA Confidential and Grosse Pointe Blank. If you haven't seen either, get them. Two I like but can easily understand others might not is Donnie Brasco and Anaconda. Others I agree with and have as part of my collection.
I do have Grosse Point Blank on blu ray, although I've not seen it in years (haven't watched it since I added it to the collection). But I remember liking it at the time. I've never seen LA Confidential, mainly because I wasn't sure if that one would be my cup of tea. I did like Donnie Brasco though. Haven't seen Anaconda either, but I remember that movie getting a lot of crap from people when it first came out LMAO! I could see someone like Vinegar Syndrome releasing that one. Thanks for watching and weighing in!
