Finally someone who speaks up regarding caffeine and gaming. I have never been a coffee drinker or caffeine dependant person ever. I am also an athlete so I pay attention to constant energy levels through good sleep and proper nutrition. On the contrary everyone around me consumes caffeine on a daily basis. I like the taste of coffee but throughout my 20 years of life I had to realize that my body reacts really different to caffeine when compared to the average person. Firstly people around me might not feel what I do because their body is used to caffeine and it does not affect them anymore. Secondly I just think that the deviation from person to person is greater than most people think. For some people caffeine is a total nightmare. And I am that person. Caffeine flushes out extremely quickly from my body so before I could feel any boost I am already at the crash. The increased cortisol levels and anxiety affect me like 10x more than anyone else. Caffeine is makes a day and night difference in my performance. I am not exaggerating it is what differentiates me between a bronze player or a diamond. I can not concentrate, I sweat, I have high resting heart rates (normally my idle is 52BPM but with caffeine it goes up to 83), I get nervous more easily and you can already imagine my aim. But really not only my aim suffers. Caffeine is a generally bad experience for me and when I play games I really feel it. Just from a small cup of espresso I will feel very dehydrated and sleepy after 40 minutes and it takes me about 3 hrs to get back my calm usual self without sweating and dizziness. I strongly urge you to rely on your general health to play and not caffeine. It simply does not work for everyone. Every friend of mind drinks caffeine on a regular basis even during gaming and they always feel happy and refreshed. It is the exact opposite for me. So figure out whats good for you and dont rely on others.
Completely agree with you. Doing everything else right like nutrition and sleep is much more important than consuming caffeine for both performance and long term health. Sure different people can react differently to caffeine even at low dosages which is why its so important like you stated to experiment with it and see if it works for you and how to use it in a safe manner. Its kind of interesting when you mentioned your friends who feel better after they consumed caffeine. There are references that daily drinkers tend to be more emotionally volatile and experience higher levels of fatigue so caffeine could simply be returning you to your usual happy self rather than actually making you even happier, along with the blockage of the adenosine receptors to make you feel refreshed. I can't say for sure in your case but the description does sound similar at least. Much respect for you though, glad you have it all figured out 😊
For me caffeine is the best drug ever. I don't feel negative side effects and have a good rest after gaming session with it. I kinda abuse it tho, consume almost daily and big doses (often 300mg+)
Everyone has different tolerance levels for many things. If it doesn't affect you, that's great! Though it'd be nice to see if you gain any benefits from cycling off for a week as an experiment
hey mate, thanks for this. got me thinking a bit about my caffeine addiction.
Nws lad, addiction is quite hard to get rid of but acknowledging you have one is a great step forward!
