The Last Day For Northern Rail At Kirkby & First Look At Headbolt Lane Station

- The 6th April 2023 will be the last day for northern rail trains running to Kirkby station as the merseyrail are extending the line from Kirkby to a new station at Headbolt Lane and that will be the new interchange between merseyrail services and northern rail, the lines at Kirkby are seperated by about 10 metres when the line was severed to keep the Wigan section Diesel as it was deemed to expensive in the 1970s to electrify the whole line.

lol i now it strange not having access to this platform anymore but the new station will be handy for me for walking distance, hopefully wont be long before its open
One of my local stations, very sad to see Northern go, but excited for the future!
Should be interesting, kirkby was my local I suppose headbolt Lane will be my new local when it opens
My old stomping grounds I haven't been back to Kirkby for 26 years went to ST KEVINS SCHOOL but my god it's changed a lot but if I did go back I'll probably get lost now..
The town centre has certainly changed alot an St Kevin's is a big housing estate now were the new station will be sat next to
@@northwesttrainsmodels Wow I would 100% get lost then I used to knock about by the Lecky side chippy and pangys fish and chip shop outside the windmill pub on the rocks don't I used to live in St Paul's close in summerfield I think it was called summerfield ??? Memory has gone..Lols

As far as I now, there not going to now because the new trains can run on battery for the extra mile or so, I think that there cutting back from original plans now as the line from the new station to skelmersdale has been cancelled.
@@northwesttrainsmodels but they only have 9 battery trains, so how will they be able to extend the network?
@MelSabharwalFan I don't think theyl be extending beyond headbolt lane, atleast not for a while and theyl only need 3 battery trains for the kirkby Line at one time I'd imagine, the only other use I could see for them would be if they extend the services from ormskirk to Preston
