Thank you for posting this. It is so helpful. I have my first appointment with Shumacher on Saturday. I am also looking at other builders and your videos have helped put my ducks in a bit of a neater row beforehand. Thanks again. Very informative.
We are looking into building our home on our 5 1/2 acre of land within the year & was looking into Schumacher Homes. This is the plan I liked. Could you do a fully completed house tour? And talk about your overall experience with building with them.
The only thing that has really changed since this video is our appliances and our personal belongings. We are currently working on a timelapse of the build process (from the ground up). We should have that by summer!
Hi! I'm considering building with Schumacher and I was curious as to what additional expense there is to the listed amount on the website for each plan? Obviously, there's specific amounts for each upgrade we choose, but what other expenses are there on top of that? Do you have to pay to run electricity or water to your land or add your own well or septic tank? Did it cost you extra to have an unfinished basement or was that included in the price of the house? I guess what I'm asking is, not including home upgrades and cost of land, what other expenses were there in this process? I know nothing about custom home building as you can tell.
There are lots of "extra expenses" with any large home builder like Schumacher. You just have to know that going in it. The price online will be just the standard finishes, which we have a lot of in our home. I believe we have about $40-$45k in upgrades. We paid out of pocket for our land upgrades. Schumacher didn't do anything with septic, electric, water, etc. The basement is standard, but a walkout is more. I would recommend a consult with them!
Your entryway flooring is beautiful! This is so helpful. Im preparing to have a Westfield built in the next few years. Now that you have been in your home for two years, how do you feel about everything? Any chance you wanna post a followup video? :-) Thanks again!
Yes! I keep saying I am going to post a follow up! We are in the process of updating some things (new countertops, wood features, etc) As soon as it is complete, I will! We are still really liking the home :) Thanks for the comment :)
How big was your added dine room? I love how you incorporated the dining into your living space. I want to do that so bad, but I don't think we can afford that with other upgrades. We signed with this home a week ago, but can still make changes as we are waiting for our meeting. I have 4 kids, so your home looks nothing like mine will (HAHA), I need every last space for a bedroom. I just love the added sunroom.
@@jessicarhoades9531 I will definitely share when I get my blue prints. I am still trying to reconfigure the front area. The powder room and the closet area is my issue, I am trying to add a smaller office by taking some of the walk-in closet space from the master. It's hard to get changes made like this, there isn't a simple tool. Do you know the size of your powder room? I am trying to do one like yours, as small as it could go.
Thank you. The only concern I have with the plan is the fit of our master bedroom furniture. We have a King and two larger dressers. Might you have a video with furniture IN the room? (I know this is so nosey!) And what office did you work with, please?
Hello! I do not with the Masterbedroom furniture. But thought about making one with the updated Christmas decor that does include the Master Bedroom. I will try to work on that this month, so stay tuned!
Also did you expand the dining area? In the floor plan it doesn’t have it coming out like that but in the pictures it does. We have a meeting with them on Thursday and we’re very interested in the Halsted!
@@jessicarhoades9531 Thank you. I am in Ohio too. I just get a bit scared from all the complaints. I am glad all went well for you. Cheers!
None of the paper walkways laid out to eliminate the dirt/dust/potential scratches to the flooring(?), wow. The flooring looks nice for a laminate. Unless you weren't ready for your own granite countertops, could they have left the formica off and just allowed you to come in right behind to install? Pretty much any painting/wall treatments later on will have to be done by a professional due to the abstract/tall walls, whoa. *EDIT* Granite is a standard feature...did they give you an allowance or s/thing? Also, your baseboards don't appear to be the standard 5 1/4"...yes/no?
There were paper over the floors until the final walkthru because you look at everything very closely. No, they would not leave off the countertops. I had to have them installed to have a "completed" home to close on.
Hello! The basement is standard in the price of the home. I think we decreased the amount of poles in the basement by doing a beam (I wish we did another so we didn't have any poles).
We customized this plan significantly so the cost was more than the posted price on their website. I purchased my own land, but they will provide assistance with finding land. I do not think it is directly through them, but a contracted realtor.
@@bparker4522 Quality has been ok so far (around 9 months). Nail pop seems to be common. They will be coming back at the 1 year mark to fix any structural concerns (including nail pops). Communication after closing has been difficult. You can read that on many review sites too. So if you have any major problems, they seem very difficult to get ahold of and get a return phone call. They went through 2 general contractors during our time. So turn over might be common. But all in all....we have been loving our home...just expensive!

The Local Ninja any update?
who did you end up going with??
@@J_Doozie it never really happened. Lots of issues but for the best because I've been recruited and am moving to Alaska
@@thelocalninja1111 Are you talking about Schumacher? Are they not good? I'm thinking of using them for Asheville, NC as well.
Very helpful video! Thanks!
I am looking at getting a Schumacher home and wanted to see if your land prep costs were more or less than estimated.
Suggestion for the great room. I would hang a tapestry, or a quilt. The material will absorb the echo. Nice home, thank you for posting.
You have had the home for over a year. How has it been holding up regarding the constructions?

thank you for posting this video! Have a question, was the open great room an upgrade?
we are building this same house and yes the open great room (if you mean open to the second floor) is an upgrade

Is the laminate flooring an upgrade?
Yes. That was an upgrade.
What is the stain on your front door? What stain did you use for your posts?
This video was so helpful! Did taking out the loft and the fourth bedroom cut down the cost?
Lauren Hill yes it did. However we quickly added back the discount for losing a loft and bedroom in upgrades such as a the fireplace and banisters.

In which state are you guys located? How was your experience working with Schumacher overall? Any issues during the process?
We are in Southern Ohio. The process overall was ok. We had a general contractor change in the middle of it which held some things up a little.
