This guy is right on my dad drove for years when I was young I drove 3 years before I bought my 1st truck in 1976 ran hard then bought a new pete in 1978 you must learn the system before you commit..
You did just interview an a guy who bought a Tractor Trailer straight out of CDL school. He hauls from Washington to Florida in a Reefer truck. You make your life whether you go from CDL school to a company or be an Owner Operator.
The Canadian government coerced removal of the trucks at Ottawa with threats that the driver's company would cease to be insured if the driver did not leave - one fella left because that would have put 55 other drivers out of a job - How many others ? That government is clearly on the wrong side of morality. The Police, too.
I’ve watched a lot of your videos and this is the most realist genuine dude. Does all his own work! you know he does just by the smile and glow when he talks about it. Keep on keeping on brother!
Elogs definitely ruined trucking. It was a lot more fun before. I started in 2008 and just recently became owner op, so yes definitely spent time with it and learn as much as possible first owning anything.
Elogs came into existence because companies were forcing drivers to drive 16 hours a day by threatening to fire them. Also a lot of OO were taking stingers from the truck stop and driving from LA to NY in 2 days. So pick ur poison.
Love the mans way of looking at HIS BUSINESS More drivers should think this way. It's all about Legacy!! His belief about being around for years is where it's at. Keep it up. We need more O/O like JB Express. #ThatsTruckin

Awesome interview JB express is the guy I really like his channel And I just bought my truck a 2004 freightliner with Detroit on it, moving my business from masonry to trucking will it work ? Tomorrow might hold the answer but if you don’t try you’ve already failed
My dad drove for 45 yrs he has drove over the road and local I was almost born in a truck I rode with him all my life I am getting my CDL right know so I can start driving I have done HVAC for 22 yrs a service tech but I have always wanted to drive truck I love his peterbilt I wish I had the same truck it just what I want and have always wanted that what my dad always drove was 359 and 379 peterbilts that’s what I love
he is really my older self he has the same mentality as me im 20 been driving for 2 years everything he says its true, trucking aint a job its a life style 😎
Probably one of the most honest trucker out there. This is a perfect example for newbies trying to get there feet wet. Trucking is like a black hole once you are sink in you never come out.
If you grew up around it in one way or another it helps. It’s a extremely dangerous job, equipment is expensive, road conditions change. Don’t get into it thinking having a cash 💰 cow. After you refine your craft you see these old timers out here there definitely the ones you need too be courteous and maybe they will give you some pointers. Good video bud seems like a good dude and interview.
Definetly help out the old timers.... I seen an 80 year old Bull Hauler putting diesel in his truck one day, his credit card was being finicky and he was struggling with the stupid cashier that can’t do her job correctly. I helped him out and told the cashier that he already swiped his card and put his pin at the pump. Turns out this lady had put the wrong pump instead of this mans pump. I finally got the pump to work for him and the man smiled and shook my Hand, he gave me some advice... He Drove a Big 379 Peterbilt with a spread axle bull hauler, I said hey man. I love your truck. He replied and said “ Ya know son, you gotta smell like cow shit to make the money 😂 “, brief words but they were very clear to me. I laughed and said hey man that’s it right there. 👍🙌🙌🙌. I helped this man while I seen another guy walk right past him chuckling under his breath. There’s people that see the old guys and have no respect. I see them and I shake their hand, because I know that way before I was here.... They were already busting their ass working hard and doing what I dreamed of doing as a kid. Hats off to the old timers. Not many times you see an 80 year old man putting in that work. Hats off to the old schoolers that are still out their doing their jobs 👍
I started out no experience in trucking 1997 bought a 379 Pete Wilson flatbed leased to a small co 18 months later got my own authority that’s been 25 years now. The first 2 years were tuff. I don’t regret It at all . When I say no experience I’d only rode in a semi one other time. It was a quick learn every mistake cost Money . And that is your money. I love the trucking and enjoy the people I’ve worked with has been great.
Man I'm 6 months in and really want to buy a truck. I can buy something in the 25-35k range but fear buying a busted truck and failing. I just don't know what to do.
Find a good mechanic you can trust then find a truck in your price range and pay him or her a shop fee to look over the truck to get his or hers opinion about it. It might sound like your waisting money in the beginning but you’ll save thousands in the end
You've only been trucking 6 months? I'd get the lay of the land first. Put some time in, learn the lanes, try out different types of trailers and find what you like and what works for you. Talk to O/Os when you can and let them guide you from experience. There's a lot to learn in this industry so take your time. I've been trucking for 5 years company side and I still learn something new everyday. Learn to operate and maintain your equipment first. How well you maintain your equipment will be a deciding factor in how much money you get to keep once you own your own truck. I'm sure people have dove right into the deep end and have been successful but from what I've learned, I feel it's better to do your homework first. Make sure this is what you want to do the rest of your life too. Trucking is one thing but business is another. Best of luck to you!
Dear God man I wish I didn't watch this LoL it hit home a little to hard. This driver is right man. He's one of the smart ones! If we had more like him things wouldn't be as they are
Hopefully everyone is getting ready for either stagflation or a recession. Fuel prices might go to 5 a gallon. Don't expect rates to get better as smaller companies get squeezed out. Save save save and erase as much debt as you can
I don't know if the government gets their fuel for free but they certainly wouldn't share it with private companies like Pilot Loves and so on. Now with the rise of prices, it's a simple issue of supply and demand. Demand remains at an all time high while supply is trying to catch up. I work for a mega carrier and last month they told my company to not fuel in Georgia so they could catch up supplying passenger cars. Same thing has happened in Cali. I honestly think a lot of companies and the government aren't really telling us everything about the supply chain right now. It could be way worse than how they describe it as.
Now I do agree with you about the electric trucks coming. I honestly am crossing my fingers that Elon Musk and others pull through with the electric trucks. I do believe it will take the professionalism of truck drivers to another level and radically change how people view our jobs as demands for even more thorough preinspections rise due to the trucks being capable of malfunctions
I went through my local College. A fully Credited 10 month CDL Training w/ Job placement, X Endorsement, Hazmat, doubles, triples, Extra Wide & Heavy Loads. I graduated Top of Class & still learned every trio out. This was before GPS. I made a couple grand a week or $160 a week running for Crete, my 1st Company Job. Then I drove my Buddies 389 up in the NW from Houston Texas & started making the real money. His truck, his bills, maintenance, etc. I just drove & delivered. I still have all my Permits & All Paperwork, Trip Logs. You won't make any money unless you drive & drive hard. I'm talking about pushing the Legal limits. Luckily I logged over a million miles without a violation, citation, was never shutdown & I had top dollar Companies Head Hunting for me then I had a Stroke & was put on SSI/DI. My Career was shot. You are correct, talk to the Ole' Timers at the Stops.
Im 44yrs old and been in the fire alarm industry for 20yrs. So close to quiting the fire industry and get my CDL to h8t the road. My kids are all grown and i would love to just hit the road for years. What advice do you guys have for me. Im a driver and machanicaly inclined. So maintaining a truck will not be a problem. Love to hear from you guys.
Get a pre emissions engine truck, older trucks generally have many little things but anyone can work on em old rigs if youre not mentally challenged. New trucks, you need computer software thats very expensive. On the paccars you need software that costs around 25k for us to be able to work on them, otherwise youre stuck with going to the dealership all the time for little things. I have a freightliner classic xl with the detroit 60 series and i love it. Little things come up here and there as any used rig wpuld have but it has never left me down, i also put alot of money and time into it to replace parts i see that are worn out before they break on the road. I do the work myaelf unless its something big
