Why are ther so many negative comments of people who are upset that boot camp isn’t as hard as it used to be? No shit when most of the people commenting that joined we were at war, rn were at peace time so there’s no need for such aggression rn
The thing is that boot camp didn't get easier because the wars ended. Boot camp has been getting easier since the end of the Vietnam War, mainly because of social engineering. The boot camp during 2002-2015 was much easier than the boot camp of the 70s and 80s. So that's why they complain. Soft training make weak soldiers. Weak soldiers make heavy caskets.
I think some form of mandatory service is a good thing even if it is just boot camp as an introduction with the option to go further without having to make a commitment in the first year. An introduction to the life would build confidence and would increase enrollment.
I disagree. Taxpayers pay for boot camp. If you wanna know what it's like, look it up. It's not hard to imagine what it will be like, and practice doing what you will do in boot camp before going. They need to serve if they are gonna get trained for free.
Also schools have exactly what you are talking about. J.R.O.T.C. and if schools don't, the internet has all the info you need, and if you don't have internet, ask a veteran. They are everywhere. If you can't figure it out, you don't belong in the military. Supposed to be making soldiers.
If the US wasn't being run by a neverending stream of shitbag politicians, I might agree with you. But I don't want my children being forced to serve a bunch of evil pieces of garbage. I actually think that some incentivized (not forced) boot camp school for everyone from ages 16-20 would be a good thing for patriotism and national unity and social stability. But nothing is going to stabilize our broken nation until after the next civil war. So keep that idea in your pocket if you survive what's coming.
I get this idea but the reason you’re signing for a 4-6 year term if because boot camp cost a lot of money. If they are going to invest that into you they want to ensure that you are going to serve after basic
I spent 12 years as a Combat Engineer. I was also an OSUT Drill Sergeant at FLW, MO, 2012-2013. I also have 28 months of patrols conducted in Iraq, over 2 deployments, 2005-2007. TWO THINGS: 1. How in two years do you go from one way, that supposedly was Mission Critical, to another way that is supposedly so desperately needed?! 2. If yelling at someone puts them in defense mode, then what the heck is getting shot at going to do to them?! And how do you conduct stress inoculation then?? And if you are not at all, then how do you Know who can hack it and who can’t?? Like G.I. Joe used to say, “Knowing is half the battle!”. I’m sure glad I’m Out…y’all can have this New Army😂
Trying to jam every one through the same hole is an old way of doing things. Not saying to coddle them but not everyone in the military is going to be a killer under fire on the front line. Some will cook, some administrate, some IT... No point in losing valuable knowledge workers by mishandling them due to a limited tool box. Most will never be in the line of fire. There are more people maintaining and administering than there are combatants. If you washout an IT candidate because he can't field strip a rile or make it through an obstacle course you're needlessly weakening the largest portion of your military. Since only 10% to 20% fight, create a separate enrolment path for combat troops sooner and don't waste time training a shih Tzu to fight. By the same token a criminal record is too broad of a term to reject people by there is nuance to everything and recruitment is down.
