I wanted to go to UCLA also! I originally wanted to go to NYU but then fell in love with the whole beach aesthetic so then I started going after UCLA but now that seems really boring so now my hearts set on NYU. thankfully I made up my mind before even starting high school so now I have a goal to work towards and motivation!
This is LITERALLY my whole situation. I’m also from the Bay Area and I’ve always wanted to go to school in SoCal up until this year (I’m a junior). I am honestly set on going to NYU and I’m trying to go for film. What was the transition like from highschool to NYU?
YESS GO YOU its so refreshing to switch up the scenery and leave Cali for college - also NYU/being in new york is amazing for film so good luck and i hope you get in!! i feel like the transition is not too bad because nyc is really vibrant and fun so you won't really feel like your missing out on much. There were some hard parts tho-its really cold in the winters haha which I'm still not used to and it's harder for me to be put together/functional in college than it was in high school but I'm slowly learning !
I'm also a freshman at NYU! I really like this video idea and I think i'm also gonna do this at some point on my channel (I'll give you credit on my channel if I do of courseee). Loved this video!! just subscribed :)
Thank you for the video! I’m a prospective freshman at NYU this fall- but I’ve been seeing mixed reviews about NYU. With no designated campus, how do you personally stay involved without getting overwhelmed? I’ve also heard that with the COVID-19 situation, NYU is switching over to online schooling. How do you feel about this change? Do you feel prepared? Also, in regards to job prospects, do you feel that NYU is actively involved in preparing their students for their future outside of college? Sorry for the barrage of questions, I’m extremely curious and a bit apprehensive about the possibility of such a big change!
CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!! and feel free to ask me any questions! when it comes to the whole no campus thing, there are a lot groups/clubs that you can join that give u a sense a community-ethnic/cultural clubs (ex. KSA -short for korean student association which they have for various ethnicities), greek life (multicultural/Panhellenic), other general students clubs that you can find at the club fair etc. And I actually made quick video talking about the COVID changes at nyu, here's the link haha: th-cam.com/video/QJFN10mmGms/w-d-xo.html And for job prospects, definitely! NYU has such a variety of different counselors available that can help you with career or academics. Also there's the Wasserman center which is the career center that has a ton of different resources- resume editing, job searching, career planning, interview practice etc. Hope this helps!! Let me know if you have any more questions : )
As an introvert with a complete disinterest in "putting my self out there" (I'm like a social hermit crab), this school honestly scares me. I'm extremely talkative, but not with anyone i don't know well. Still, it remains my top choice because of the Tisch film/writing program... I feel like I'm applying to be murdered. Moved to the bx last year. And honestly, I find walking around the city can get pretty drab and lonely. After attending a hs class at tisch, I wasn't too impressed with the environment since I already live in the city. I don't know, I'm just concerned if applying there is the best choice. There was a weird vibe everytime I went into the building like people were friendly but disinterested in connecting. Maybe that was just me.
damn im a year late and i feel the exact same way, my situation is quite different since I'm from Indonesia and I hold an American citizenship since I'm half American but I have never even been to the US bruh, on top of that I'm not good in social interactions, only if its someone I get to know and have a good vibe with. so maybe NYU is not my top choice but its seriously a dream school and i have a strong dislike going to those football games most public universities has and that "school spirit" like that's cool and all, but not rlly my thing. NYU just lines up with my interests like film and art, etc. i have at least 10 days before early admission and I'm freaking out lol
@@allysonestes there are a lot of other good liberal arts schools out there that offer a better environment :) i think it’s easier to move there either for grad school or just after college because it’s definitely an “adult” environment meaning you’re not going to get much guidance or assistance with your day to day life as you would a school that caters to its college more (like with social events and activities to build community)
Ive just received the offer of the Liberal Studies Core!!! Thank you for sharing, they are truly helpful! and now Ive decided to be a part of the class of 2026!!!
woah I go to Gunn High School too! (current junior !) NYU honestly sounds so cool and it's like my dream school but idk whether i should apply ED or not because it's super far from home and the lack of community/ social life stuff is scary :( Would you say living in NY is worth it, or would you go back to a traditional campus if you could? Also what has been biggest difference / change (either positively or negatively!) between going to Gunn and living in the Bay Area versus NYU?
omg u go to gunn ?? and yes i think that its 100% worth it! but ofc it depends a lot on your personal preferences; if you decide that nyu is actually what you want then i think applying ED will up your chances of acceptance by a lot! i think a lot of the things you're worried about is actually scarier than it seems, so i would urge you to not let that hold you back : ) biggest difference is probably the environment cuz bay is very calm and suburban and NY is very vibrant, diverse and energetic. hope this helps and have a good time at gunn!!
nice video! i just got admitted off nyu waitlist, however i already sent a commitment deposit to ucsb. being from the bay area, i want to stay near cali but at the same time, ive always wanted to live in new york. any advice?
Wow congrats!! IMO college is one of the best times to experience new york bcs you can enjoy all the fun parts of the city and meet a ton of new people without worrying about some of the responsibilities that you'd face if you were living independently in nyc as an adult. UCSB and NYU are also pretty much polar opposites. UCSB is so scenic/naturey while NYU is in the middle of the city-so maybe choose what you vibe with more!
Hey Bridgette, binging your NYU stuff for the past 2 days :) International Junior here applying ED1 this year to Stern (dream school). Could you clarify some of my doubts? Do international students blend in/make friends easily or is it as hard as it is said to be? I'm really paranoid about being lonely for 4 long years, would definitely like to hear your thoughts on this.
hahah aw that makes me so happy. and yes most international people I know don't have a hard time fitting in since NYU is really diverse anyway and has a HUGE international student population. My best advice is to try not to worry, because as long as you reach out and make an effort to introduce yourself/make plans with others, people will definitely appreciate it and reciprocate. Especially since you're Stern (huge congrats btw), you'll have so many arranged opportunities to meet new people- Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any more questions/concerns :)
i’m seeing this video kinda late but i’m literally a freshman in high school but nyu is already my dream school for film at tisch, i get kinda worried about the social life though because whenever i say i wanna go there i get the “there’s no campus,” and i was wondering, do you mostly just make friends when you go to your classes? is there a lot of socializing in the dorms?
hi!! i think what people say about nyu social life makes it seem a lot scarier than it really is tbh. theres not really a gated a campus like most traditional schools, but the area around Washington sq. park is technically the same thing except for the fact that its not gated and its open to the public; that whole area contains most of the NYU buildings (classrooms, facilities, library) and all the freshman dorms/dining halls so it pretty much has the same vibe as a campus full of students
personally, i didn't socialize with the people on my floor, but i was really close to my roommate and met a ton of people in my dorm (like in the common areas and stuff/elevators) cuz you run into them a lot! i met my closest friends through welcome week, and the rest in clubs/organizations or randomly over time like class or at dining halls or through other friends - there are so many opportunities : )
i'm not sure about competitive it is but I've never known or heard of anyone in that program so i think it probably is small! this link should have more info if you haven't already seen it: www.sps.nyu.edu/professional-pathways/topics/design/graphic-design.html
Hi! I want to ask something about financial aid. Does NYU provide financial aid for international students? I'm from Asian country and it's always been my dream to study at NYU. I'm looking forward to your response. Thank you!
Man I just submitted my application for regular decision. I applied in studio art at steinhardt. I really hate my application I feel like it’s horrible, and I just ughh I feel bad, I wish I could redo everything
i applied a to a lot of schools as a sr in hs, and i didn't get into any of the ones i wanted to go to. so i reapplied this march (as a 1st yr college student) and i got into NYU! i know that i definitely needed the year of maturation and growth to be able to craft an even better application. my first yr at a public college was so valuable and helped me to get in. hope things work out well for you!
i've asked a couple upperclassmen who've gotten jobs about this and I think that overall yes it does! they said that a degree in econ opens up a really wide range of career possibilities
Me as a person hate sporting event and don’t really care about school spirit: yes NYU!
