I am so glad someone addressed the value of gold-filled or gold-plated. I'm on the fence about whether it's junk or not. I think anyone new to collecting needs to understand that the weight of anything gold-filled/gold-plated etc is a false reading compared to solid gold. It may be heavy, but it does need to be decerned whether it's karat gold or filled before valuation. As far as a nice piece of gold-filled jewelry in good condition and of a nice design, I wouldn't consider it "junk" if it's priced right with full disclosure. I think it's safe to say that there are some unscrupulous resellers that will lump a good chunk in with solid gold, so buyers beware.
Rusty...as someone who has done this before for years, I know where you are coming from, but I can remember those days of thinking I had come across a treasure.
There is also the confusion of understanding something like 10K gold vs gold-filled. 10k is gold, but those unfamiliar need to understand that it contains other metal that is melted in with the gold to make it harder and also less expensive. I've found that most school rings are 10K because they need to be affordable to their market which is compiled of younger adults. Also, the wear and tear is harder with younger students. That does not mean they are gold-plated or gold-filled. It's solid through and through, where in some cases, gold plating can actually peel off or more often rub off to the base metal.
Lastly...I've seen you show "gold-colored" or gold-plated on sterling. This is a tricky one. In my experience, even with a thin layer of gold, I generally would price that type of jewelry the same as plain sterling, unless it is a unique brand, or contains semi-precious stones. I think these questionable pieces would sell best in an eBay auction as long as every detail is spelled out.
I love all the information you two offer, but some of these gray areas can be tricky. I've worked with the best, and I think you two want to present full disclosure and make sure you have an ethical and honest business. I've also worked with the worst and I've seen up close and personal how true con artists steal sterling heirloom holloware and flatware right out from under a customer's nose while they are standing in front of them. I would be willing to put money down that you two never want to face anyone accusing you of such a thing. You wouldn't put yourself out there online among a lot of long-time experienced people who could call you out.
I do have to share a funny reaction I had to one of your videos....and it was just a matter of me facing the fact that I'm not a spring chicken anymore. Rusty...you were describing a pretty brooch that had no markings but had a flower entwined with a horseshoe. You were talking in general about some of us remembering our history of horseshoes at one time representing "good luck". Gosh...did I feel like an old-timer! haha! I assumed that was still the case...especially since I'm from Texas and we still see them everywhere...real ones hung up in a bar or a barn or even over doorframes. They may not be "cosmopolitan" (not sure they ever were), but I hope that old wives' tale lives on as long as a four-leaf clover! LOL!
Just a quick last comment, expect some of us "seniors" to pop up and add our two cents if we think you might be off a bit. I haven't watched all your videos, but enough to know that you trip rarely, but you also know a lot of your stuff. I'm still learning many things from you. How could we not be in such a vast land as reselling or being dealers? I hope most of us are nice, and those that aren't...well, take them with a grain of salt! All the best! Sorry for the tome!!

Been binge-watching your channel. I watched your newest, uploaded video earlier (looked quite familiar for some reason 😉 ). This video came on after it, and I am sitting listing items on eBay, and I noticed Peaches’ hat. Birds of a feather are flocking outside. I attended more shows this year than I have since the late 90s. Thanks for the content, cousins.

I have bins organized letter O for office G for garage etc then numbered so that I can find them easily when the auction ends. EBay provides a line Custom SKU where you write which bin number - no need for customer to see your sku or code.

Your adventures into matchbooks have caused me to start to look closer at the ones I see. Got a few dozen cigar, tobacco, beer themed ones a few weeks ago. Seems like a nice little side collection.

Questions for next time- How did Peaches get that nickname? Are you two family members or friends? How many items do you have listed on eBay?

LOVE this idea and the fact that both of you guys seem to really want to offer knowledge gained... Thank you so much for sharing!!!
P.S. Almost fell outta my chair when you both said your inventory is memory based! 😳😂😳😂 To each their own, and maybe I'm spending too much time with my personal organizational ways. 😂 I give everything a label in a # system and track it in Excel... After eBay relisted sold inventory and I ended up selling something I didn't have I'm strict with inventory. 😂

Having a inventory number assignment system is what I see most people doing and seems to work the best for the most people. I have a pretty good memory and I find the things I’m looking for so it hasn’t been a problem yet. The amount of time it would take me to do inventory on the amount of things I have wouldn’t be worth it for me. I applaud you for your efforts though! There is no one answer to a lot of these questions, so if you find something that works for you, then that is what is best.

@@RustyTheReseller Hope my comment didn't come off as me telling you guys to do anything differently, and my apologies if it did. I was just in awe that anyone could have a memory as good as you two and commenting I could never do it. Sincerely, I bow down to both of you and hope to someday be as amazing at this reselling career! 😁

I'm new to the ebay world of selling. As far as I know, not one item has been sold. (I'm under a month new to this to today's date) but don't have a clue how I will know when an item does sell, how do I know?
