should the crankshaft cheek not be supported when you're banging a hammer on the center ?
I am no professional but it seems unnecessary to have all that force transferred to the rod bearing journal.

i guess thats a tube a sta lube besides you- which went in the shell bearings- i liked the way you heated up the bearing cones & fitted it on the drive side of the crank-- good job

Do pre 73 Nortons need the crank bearings replaced too?? I heard they had a combination of ball and roller bearings.

Combat? Yes. Non-Combats can be replaced when they need them, but I wouldn't do it as a preventative measure.

Love the ad at the end. The Combat has a bit of a dubious reputation. Does it need any particular care when rebuilding?

Hi, yes specifically the bearings should be replaced for the Combats! There's a ton of information online about the woes with the Combats, but this is definitely one of the recommendations. Best wishes, Mike

Aside from the bearings that Mike mentioned we'll also be showing a crankcase modification to help the oil flow. Stay tuned.

You don't need to get them super hot as you don't want to ruin the bearing.
