this game kicked my arse as a kid and it still kicks it now, difficult but great game. gotta love that breaking the sound barrier effect, gives you a sense of speed not found in other racers.

Even strange ones like helping a rival team win a race or possible death of a character, your team or otherwise. XGRA had something going by adding personality to the characters and having a "bounty" thing and that could even be improved. Add that to the story in a remake which could potentially change how other characters react to you. There is a lot that could be done to this game. Adding to that, have customizable options such as color and/or design of your bike and wheels with options for light trails, different outfits for the racers With today's video game tech doing this should be easy. While I don't think it would be a blockbuster (as much as I want it to be) it would still be something a lot of people would pick up. And as for achievements, they should be made just easy enough so that everyone would be able to acquire all of them. For god sakes, I would not want to see one requiring you to win every race in every class like WipeOut HD had! That was way too ridiculous to achieve.

My two favorite things in this game is breaking the sound barrier because the music just kinda washes out and pegging the speedometer. I love how it just glitches out because you're going too fast. The sense of speed in this game is great.

Imagine attending one of these 1250G races in real life... It would just sound like a high caliber rifle range, numerous sound barriers broken every few seconds. You'd definitely need heavy duty ear protection.
@Daniel well, it's not fair to compare the look of a PS2 game with a PS4 one, of course is going to look horrible, but between the PS2 and GC versions, the later is the best version, the graphics are slightly better than the PS2 and controls are more responsive, mostly because of the triggers, but either way the game is amazing. Both versions are worth playing since there isn't too much of difference between them.

According to reviews the games are the exact same except you can play 4 player split screen on GameCube. If there is any difference in the frame rate or visuals it's next to no difference at all.

God this was a great game! I remember as a kid testing to how fast you could go doing absolutely nothing other than steer, and the bike hit 31 mph purely on exhaust coming out the back.
This one and Siris Canyon are my favorite. And yeah that's basically what made this game stand out to me. Breaking the sound barrier sounds so satisfying in this game.

i was so good at this game, something about fast racers i can do. i would have the track memorized in my head. this is one of the best fast racers, another that comes to mind is suzuki racing on dreamcast

Funny thing is the track playing is Needlejuice by System F(Ferry Corsten) which if you listen carefully you hear 2 different tracks at the beginning and end of the song. Thats because likely Acclaim stole this track from a Trance compilation album called Trance Nation 2001 (5) disc 2 who the DJ mixing is Ferry Corsten.

it's good to see an old game stretched to fit wide screen ratio. i appreciate the covering the black sides. doesn't make it look blurry and crap at all.
Unfortunately the company (Probe entertainment) that made that game ceased operations 20 years ago when Acclaim Entertainment declared bankruptcy.. There have been some interests in the revival of that game but there isn't any new news I'm afraid.
One of my favorite games of all time growing up, still disappointed that Nintendo has not tried to revive this yet, it would be a great game for the switch ( as well as ps4 and xbox one ) but i prefer to have it on the go lol

Ah yes, that happened to me too. Once you go into a game like this, you never go back. GX did that to me. I imagine this one did the same thing for a lot of other people too.

Why wouldn't it tho? The music mutes when you break the sound barrier, which is what would actually happen irl since you're travelling faster than sound at that point. The only way you'd be able to hear the music is if you were in an enclosed cockpit with its own air. The effects of breaking the sound barrier would then only be experienced externally.
Oceania's also one of my favorite tracks along with Atradaitoshi and Megalopolis 7. I always wondered about the flash mortar weapon... I know it can be used to disorient players during multiplayer, but does it have any affect on the CPU riders?

Redout 2 is pretty nuts. The level of control they give you plays a big factor. Plus you're constantly sacrificing your shields for more boost.

Well... when you go above 742mph... you break the sound barrier... Music is sound so... it cuts out.
