Finance Minister Niramala Sitharaman was at her sarcastic best as she questioned opposition's demand for withdrawal of the 18% GST on health insurance premiums. Calling the demand "thoroughly amazing", she asked the opposition to bring the proposal to the GST Council through their states' finance ministers. The finance minister slammed the opposition for politicising the issue in Parliament and asked if the members had written to the finance ministers of opposition-ruled states to withdraw the tax. She also said that amendments pertaining to GST have to be made in the GST Council, which is a constitutional body, and added that these amendments don't come through Parliament. The opposition has vehemently raised the issue of 18% GST on medical insurance premiums, blaming the union budget for the tax. In an important revelation, the finance minister said that the matter was discussed thrice in the GST Council meeting. The council discussed the matter at its 31st meeting, 37th meeting, and the 47th meeting.

Because to change those system they would need approval of state governments too, which not all state governments are agreeing on,but still the Opposition says it's mistake of center. This is a democracy where each state government also have a say on it.
But what nirmala ji said was right the money which they are collecting in the form GST is used for development of every state and if opposition has some issues with it they should raise questions in the GST council where all parties finance ministers are present not in the parliament to just blame the government.

Finally we as tax paying citizens were being fooled atleast for last 25 years.. just because of 5-10 % population paying tax.. Unless this is fixed .. No govt can help us . I see the state govt revenue is also not great for any states as it is becoming stagnant now. The whole economy has an impact of global inflation as well. Considering all this , I as a citizen can only keep quiet. Unless new businesses are added to states , this is gonna prolong. I atleast feel that centre is ensuring checks with all the spending to/from stategovts

As there are 28 states in average about 400 crore for each state and you center got 12232 cr that is why we think it is a loot by center. Why you are blaming states just remove GST on insurance and medical bills. No one is going to blame you and just put only 10% GST on petrole diesal ,our economy will grow
States are not willing for GST on petrol abd alcohol. Ask states to vote for GST on all items, so that petrol will be cheaper.

The point is taxing 18 percent GST on Medical insurance premium and that too on hapless Senior citizens who struggles hard to make both ends meet is really unjustified.Remember, this is even after paying Income Tax and other indirect taxes on almost all items of purchases and services availed.
I sincerely hope, somebody in the Govt. Or atleast in BJP find time to persuade Hon.Minister in the matter to see the truth.

the problem is common people still don't know how the GST works, its 50:50 in all the tax collected- 50% direct to state and 50% to center and then again in that 50% center gives to state based on different factor, so in simple words state govt's every time gates more than 50% collected whether its pro-center party or opposite center party ruling state. Here the problem is some states used to put heavy state VAT on some community which is now less when it comes under GST and thus a direct lose to state revenue, these state govt will not think that now the GST tax is less on people than the older tax system, they want money to give freebies and this cant be done if all comes under GST as the Tax cant be increased or decreased as per their wish like previous. GST is good for long run, state govt cannot work as per their wish on spending money for unplanned/last moment election gimmick schemes.
Madamji BJP is against the middle class, people, salaried employees, pensioners and it is best for rich people, politicians. Hope all the modiji bhaktas will realize soon.
