Humans continuously perplex me. Humankind defines perpetual as never ending or changing. The following quote is one of my favorites by Albert Einstein, "Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds. The mediocre mind is incapable of understanding the man who refuses to bow blindly to conventional prejudices and chooses instead to express his opinions courageously and honestly." Consider the following, If a device uses gravity as a source of power for operation and operates for a long time is it a perpetual motion machine, no, eventually earth will not exist then the machine using the gravity of earth will quit working. Why don't humans think things through?

    • @jamesbarrett9066
      @jamesbarrett9066 หลายเดือนก่อน

It was not mediocre minds that developed these laws of science.
Perpetual motion, the concept of a machine that can operate indefinitely without an external energy source, is impossible due to fundamental principles of physics. Here are the key reasons why perpetual motion machines cannot exist:
      1. First Law of Thermodynamics (Conservation of Energy)
Principle: Energy cannot be created or destroyed, only transformed from one form to another.
Implication: A perpetual motion machine would need to create energy to sustain its motion indefinitely without any external input, violating this law.
      2. Second Law of Thermodynamics (Entropy)
Principle: In any energy transfer or transformation, the total entropy (disorder) of a closed system will always increase over time.
Implication: A perpetual motion machine would need to operate without any increase in entropy, meaning it would have to be 100% efficient and produce no waste heat or other forms of energy dissipation, which is impossible.
      3. Friction and Other Losses
Principle: Friction, air resistance, and other forms of energy loss are inevitable in any mechanical system.
Implication: These losses cause a perpetual motion machine to eventually slow down and stop unless additional energy is provided, contradicting the idea of perpetual motion.
      4. Conservation of Momentum
Principle: In a closed system, the total momentum remains constant unless acted upon by an external force.
Implication: A perpetual motion machine would need to counteract any loss of momentum due to friction or other forces, requiring an external energy source.
      5. No Perfect Isolation
Principle: No system can be perfectly isolated from its surroundings.
Implication: Even the most well-designed system will lose energy to its environment through radiation, heat transfer, or other means, leading to the eventual cessation of motion.
      6. Practical Limitations and Material Properties
Principle: Materials used in constructing machines have limitations, such as wear and tear, degradation, and imperfections.
Implication: These material properties lead to energy losses and mechanical failures over time, preventing perpetual operation.
Summary of Types of Perpetual Motion Machines
Perpetual Motion of the First Kind: A machine that produces more energy than it consumes, violating the first law of thermodynamics.
Perpetual Motion of the Second Kind: A machine that spontaneously converts thermal energy into mechanical work without any other effect, violating the second law of thermodynamics.
Perpetual Motion of the Third Kind: A machine that eliminates all friction and other dissipative forces, allowing continuous motion without energy input, which is impossible due to unavoidable energy losses.
      Examples and Thought Experiments
Maxwell's Demon: A hypothetical creature that could sort molecules to decrease entropy without expending energy, seemingly violating the second law of thermodynamics. In reality, the act of measurement and sorting would consume energy, preserving the second law.
Overbalanced Wheel: A wheel designed to have an uneven distribution of weight to keep it spinning indefinitely. Practical implementations fail due to friction and the conservation of energy.
In conclusion, the impossibility of perpetual motion is rooted in the fundamental laws of physics. These laws ensure that energy cannot be created from nothing and that all systems will eventually lose energy to their surroundings, making perpetual motion an unattainable goal.

First time i ever seen your channel, very entertaining because of all the ideas. What would make it real interesting, to me, if you could work out a way to calculate the energy you put into starting it versus the energy you get out. As well as the time they run. In that case it would be possible to judge which conserve energy the best. Because a few of the setups are pretty bad at that. The one that instantly struck me as the ultimate energy "killer" was the perpetual cycloid mechanism. Showing the ideas in first step, giving us a chance at estimating how well they conserve energy, and then in the second phase going through them with the data of energy input, output, and running time. This would make it interesting in a way that goes beyond simply admiring all the fascinating ideas.

_"if you could work out a way to calculate the energy you put into starting it versus the energy you get out."_ It is easy. Calculate the input energy, substract the energy due to friction. You can then calculate time that it appears to work before input energy reaches 0.

THERE ARE NO SUCH THINGS AS PERPETUAL MOTION MACHINES. All machines suffer from friction and dissipated energy via noise, heat etc. Even the universe is running down, so it is impossible for anything in it to be PERPETUAL.

All these devices are "magical" in some way, because they impose something to the viewer. In fact, there is an energy source somewhere.
If this so-called "free energy" actually existed, then there should be a permanent increase in acceleration (rotation) and the machines would accelerate continuously - to the point of self-destruction.
But as you can observe clearly, the situation is in equilibrium, the wheels are turning at a constant speed. Ergo, the forces of friction and propulsion are equal. So why is the observed speed as it is and not faster or slower?
