      Hi Mark,
      Watching this vid, I've got a little filter came with my tank, it's a tecatlantis TC 200 (the tank and stuff was given to me, it's never been used but is some years old) . It looks like the one in the video except it has no airline attachment, it seems to work by sucking in water and chucking it out of the top. I'm trying to puzzle out how to modify it, any advice?

    Thanks for the great tips! I just did this to my system tonight. The Small tube that you cut in half, I chose to cut it much smaller and make it like a little plug. I melted it on my stove top, using and old pie tin to shape it. 😆 With the top tube that attaches to the pump, it was to small to fit over, almost the same size as the smaller ring. (perhaps they changed it a bit since this video was made) Anyways, I rotated the top end of the tube just over my stove element, only enough to get it warmed up, then I slid it over the end of a Sharpe marker. This was the perfect little "stretch" the plastic needed to fit onto the pump snugly. It's working wonderfully! 😊

    Thank you the first 2 videos that came up in my search for "how to use mini filter for aquarium" I found yours very helpful. I bought mine online, from china but has no english instruction. Actually the kid in the 1st video said he didn't know what the little air tube was for. So I let him know, since that was the only thing I was sure of....LOL the second video was a girl who unpacked her tiny filter from the box, and that was the end of that! Funny since her video say it's a review on the mini filter HaHa. I guess it was a review on packaging of aquarium filters? kidden, but not.....thanks again ten thumbs up

    Just installed this for the Atyas gabonensis because i was tired of using a regular filter with a tight on it (i have some red cherries with the atyas, hence the tight) and having to clean it was a chore. The atyas and cherries both seem to love it for different reasons. Cherries love the sponges, and atyas love the water current.

    • @MarksShrimpTanks

I'm getting a bamboo shrimp soon to go with them, and a couple of lil crabs, limnopilos naiyanetri. Also trying to get some freshwater pompom crabs in my other tank, as these little guys look so cool.

  • @Ucceah
    @Ucceah 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    that's almost identical to the setup i'm running. but in addition, i replaced the lift tube with a little food safe container, holding a small hand full of ceramic media.
    i've found that these very fine sponges clogg up quite easily, after 6-8 weeks, by being just overgrown with (good) bacterial sludge. you can feel, when it's time - you cant compress the sponge as much anymore, and it starts feeling almost fleshy-squishy, with all the stuff in it.
    so i routinely clean one of the two every two weeks, and quite thoroughly, to keep good flow going. it seems to do good, because freash bacterial growth is most active.

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes you have to force it on a little bit, you can use a lighter and pass it under the plastic pipe opening a couple of times to soften it up and then try forcing it on.

    • @MarksShrimpTanks

  • @WPT_NL
    @WPT_NL 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I like the video thanks. Only one things is missing. Im very curious why you think this filter is amazing? What does it do in comparison to lets say a air pump? Thank you!

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its pretty powerful ,also with it being on a double sponge you dont lose bacteria if you clean one of them.

    • @WPT_NL
      @WPT_NL 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you very much for your reaction. So the plus side of this filter is that it is more powerful than a airpump. That creates more waterflow and that is the better part?

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah and the double sponge mod and the fact that its a pretty powerful little pump for its price ..you can get them here for around £15 .. the only thing I do is I turn the power head to face the glass because it can be to much for the shrimp,this way you still get all the suction without all of the water movement ..the other reason its perfect is because it fits on to a double sponge without modifications so its ready to go.

    • @WPT_NL
      @WPT_NL 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you very much. I was working with a airpump but i also had two of these in house. Zo installed them right back :) But when i put the water outflow fully open it is way to much water movement for my 60 liter Dennerle Nano Cube aquarium.

      Yes adding the filters does slow them down for sure, it seems to be different on every filter in my room.

    Hello.. can you help me please? Any info will much appreciated, thank you ever so much also for your time to answer me :)

    is it better than matten filter?

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For me it is yes :)

    • @Ucceah
      @Ucceah 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      a Mattenfilter takes up much more space, for about the same bio-filtration capacity. IMHO it's a dated method, from days where there wasnt nearly as much cheap but sophisticated equipment available.
      they still have one benefit, though: the huge filter volume plus much slower flow, makes it so you barely ever have to clean a Mattenfilter. and you can let a wall of moss grow on them.

    Great filter but be careful pulling the air tube off the venturi outlet, mine was a snug fit and snapped off, superglued it back on and its fine.

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its funny you should mention that ,the other two small power heads I have that are not aquael have also snapped off and I had to glue them back in place.

    Anyone know if the smaller dual sponge filter (XY-2831) would work for this mod?
    I can't get the Pat Mini over here, but I believe I could make my own equivalent using a Cobalt MJ 400 powerhead.

    Why is the corse sponge bad? Didn't look like shrimp could get into it. Asking cause I'm using a aquaclear sponge on my intake

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Jeff, if you hold the course one up you can see right through it, little shrimp wouldnt stand a chance, normally thought the pat mini comes with a shrimp safe alternative to though.

    It might be easier to not clip the rigid air tubing and just use airline and use that to pull in your extra oxygen instead of attaching the nozzle tip. Cool filter though

    • @braytac
      @braytac 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That way air will get into the pomp making it a lot louder and more prone to failure/damage

    6:23 no need for that tube melting just add airline from aquael and put in the nozzle the diverter.

    Can you not get them with a UK plug?

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can and even if you dont you could cut off the EU plug and wire on your own UK plug ,the voltages are the same and only difference would be there is no earth on the EU stuff.

      I asked aquael about this yesterday and they have still to get back to me , I think they are made in Poland so they probably are not compatible with your electrical voltages.

    Самый тихий фильтр который у меня был - Aquael Asap. В сравнении с ним, допустим Aquael Pat Mini раза в 2 громче, Atman HF-0100 в 3 раза громче. Для меня приоритет тишина, аквариумы в спальной комнате по бокам кровати. Рад буду, если кому-нибудь помогу своим личным опытом на примере сравнения громкости этих фильтров.
