Hi. Taking a shot here and see if you can answer. Replaced a broken 55-50sn from a Volvo with a used one. But when trying it out it doesn’t engage any gears and it won’t pump oil when trying to flush it. The we took another used box and it is the same! Are we doing something wrong you think that we don’t think off, or is it bad luck with two broken oil pumps?
You may be mis-stabbing it. Easy to do. Once you have a couple of bolts in the bell housing and the transmission is flush to the engine. You should be able to move the torque converter. If you cannot the torque converter is not seated properly. And once you try to start it it will break the pump.
Make sure both dowel pins are in the engine block. Look close at the flywheel. Make sure it is not warped and the crankshaft is not floating back and forth.
So just saw a video from "abu5ed vq" that clearly shows the linkage bar from the valve body to the range switch plate. Is this prone to come loose causing no engagement?
Appreciate the quick response. Just one more question please. Can I assume you feel the same about the actual detent spring somehow failing to move the main shifting engagement valve.?
Hi.I like your job what you posting on you tube and I also have a question where you buy rebuild kit for that transmission .? I asked you because I need rebuild my transmission on Volvo.
I am rebuilding its exact unit. At around 14 mins and 20 seconds you pull out frictions and steels from around the ring gear. I have frictions and steels from my kit to be exact 4 frictions 3 steels and 2 pressure plates. When I put them in there is almost a 3 sixteenth gap from the top pressure plate to the snap ring. Is that normal?
I have 2 different listings for clearance on that. One is .017-.056 the other is .054-.087. The clutches are .067 and the steels .071. I would think that the first is probably the correct one. "Typically" you allow .008-.010 per friction. If you have 3/16 you could fit another clutch and steel and your clearance should come out in spec. About .049.
My workshop loosened the bolt on top and now my B4 Brake band is gone and so is the 3rd gear. Very interesting video
Sometimes you can maneuver the band back into place, otherwise you have to take it apart.
Gracias por el video. Muy técnico en ilustrativo
Thanks for watching.
Are those transmission worth rebuilding?
Expensive, but yes. They are a good transmission. Weak point being the valve body.

@@CurmudgeonTransmission yes. But we got it in place both times and it sat correct and it all moved nicely.

@@CurmudgeonTransmission We took apart the old box with bad diff and moved the oil pump part to this one and then it worked.
8:21 anyone know what these numbers mean in by the bellhousing shaft? ive seen in some but not in others ??????

No. The valve body keeps it in place. Have never had one come loose.

No, not unless it fell off when putting the valve body on. Once the valve body is in place it keeps it from falling off.
Thanks so much. You've helped immensely.take care

Thanks. I put in 1 more of each and now seems to fit correctly. Not too tight. Still putting the transmission back together so well see.
1 more question. Do you know what the torque specs are for the bolts joining the engine and tranny? 05 nissan maxima
2.170 long bolts 52-58 ft.lbs, 1.570 long bolt 31-38 ft. lbs.
Thanks again. Now I took the bracket out that holds the shifter cable and now I can't find it. Will the shifter cable work without the bracket?
Where do you find the filter

WHATS THE BEST TRANS FLUID TO USE IN THSES JUNK PILES GOT ANY TIPS
The best is always what it calls for. This one is JWS3309. Having said that we use a full synthetic and it works with that.
are AW55-50SN ,AW55-51SN same gearboxes
Yes and no. They are very similar. The gear ratios are different.
