(DIY) VW Badge Install & Carbon Fiber Inlay

- Today I decided to replace my Golf MK7 rear stock badge with a gloss black emblem from eBay. The emblems cost me $30 and they turned out great. However, I didn't want to just install the black VW badges and leave it like that because in my opinion it looks like a big black spot and to me it looks ugly. I originally wanted to paint the inlays the color of the car but all paint shops were closed the day I decided to do this. I found some carbon fiber laying around the garage from a previous video so I put it to good use. Plus, in sunlight, the carbon fiber looks just like the paint (platinum silver) which allows the gloss black emblem to stick out and look much better than it would if the inlay was left alone (a big black circle). So here you guys go, I hope you enjoy!

You can also slide the flat head in and twist like you're tightening or loosening sometimes as a more effective way to pry..
I appreciate the advice! I would have done that, but I didn't want to damage the stock badge. It was very fragile and the chrome was easy to scratch

This guy seems like such a nice genuine dude but i would never let him work on my car. Just some friendly advice for the future bro:
1. You shouldve put some electrical tape around the logo where you kept prying the metal part of the screwdriver against the cars paint or just use a plastic pry tool, so you dont scratch/ruin your paint. You were very careful for sure but imagine one slip up with that flathead an you leave a gouge in your paint, very preventable.
2. keep your wrap stored better, that entire roll of carbon fibre wrap is basically useless for anything large, all those kinks youve put in it will show through if you wrap a car with it, and you can see the kinks even on your emblem.
3. Never ever ever ever use scissors to cut wrap man, youll create little tiny ripples along to cut lines which make the wrap not hold as well/peel up easier.
Appreciate the feedback bro. I wasn't planning on using the old VW badge again so I didn't mind if I scratched it or not. I was very mindful of what I was doing near the paint. Having it taped off will be a good idea for the future though! I didn't buy the eBay wrap for anything large, just small things like this. The edges of the wrap were tucked under the inlay. The badge then goes over the inlay and snaps into the back of the car which holds it tight in place. I've had it done for over a year and it looks perfect! & in terms of how I store the wrap, the video does not show how I store it, I roll it up and have it in a container. Thanks again for the constructive feedback though, I will definitely tape off areas in the future and not use scissors to cut the wrap!

Plastic dip is cheaper I wanted to buy the logos on ebbay but 50£ for both is a lot, so I decided I use plastic dip and it looks cool

You need to Plasti Dip the other badges and please take off the dealer decal below your Golf badge.

Outta black out the other badges not just the VW logo badge to match. Just my opinion. Think it would look cool

You should had a plastic wedge tool keep any damage of your badge.

Don't be scared to fail! That's how you learn. You can find replacement emblems for around $20-$30 online

So answer this,why did u spend money on black badges when you had carbon fibre wrap that you could have used to wrap the badges? Just saying. If I had some wrap I would used it, but I drive a T6 van and a scirocco R (lowered and remapped stage 2) which I put black badges on. Just saying you could have saved some money and the carbon wrap would look good on the badges.
Because I wanted gloss black badges with a carbon background, not carbon fiber badges. I have a gray car, it wouldn't look good. It'd look good on a light colored car. Plus the opportunity cost of the time it would take me to wrap the badges in a way that I would be satisfied was worth paying $30 for new badges

A credit card wouldn't have worked, it was really firm. It was also during the winter when I did this so everything was really cold. A credit card would have just snapped in half

@@LinesInkTattoo I watched the video, that is a nice way to do it! It seems like there are too many steps! To snap it off just requires a bit of patience but it can be done much faster than how I did it. I was just cautious because it was my first time and it was also winter when I did it so my fingers were frozen. If it was summer it would have taken me half the time. I love your golf, looks sick man!

Never use a screw driver against plastic. U can scratch the paint. Sorry but I won't subscribe. I mean u are not taking your channel serious.
I replaced the badge so I didn't care if I scratched the old one (which I didn't). The badge is only $20 on eBay anyway... I was very careful around the paint. Life's a journey of learning! You can never expect perfection, especially in the beginning. I appreciate the advice though, I'll be mindful of that in the future. Not sure what you mean by the last sentence 😂
