As someone who has used a similar wood splitter for years I'd like to think I know a thing or two about them.
Firstly I'd be very weary of standing directly in front of it, I've had some knotty wood suddenly "explode" apart if that makes sense and having my bits right in front of it doesn't seem great. So not having a guard to the side to stand behind is a big no-no for me.
Also having to have two hands on the machine to make it work seems like a massive productivity killer, with ours as it's a one handed operation you can hold the lever to make the blade stop half way up whilst you turn the log instead of letting the blade go all the way up and having to wait for it to go all the way back down again. I'd think doing kindling on this machine would be a long and tedious nightmare. Yes health and safety wise it may not be the wisest thing to do but neither is standing completely exposed to something being cut with 10+ tonnes of force behind it.
Also for ergonomics having the handles there doesn't really work, with ours when the machine is raised like how you're using it the operating handle is sort of waist/lower chest height and when lowered to the floor its waist height. Regardless it's comfortable to use in ant position. With yours when raised you constantly have to lift your hands up and then come back down to move the wood again and again. That's going to get super tiring after a while compared to ours! Of course the solution is lowering the machine but then you're constantly bending down to move the wood...
We've got a Browns one and have used it extensively going on 10+ years now for reference.

That logsplitter should have a guard between you and it, it's very dangerous as I too well know 😉. Also I would much prefer one handle much lower down. That's hard work with your arms so high.

Top tip when using a log splitter. Don’t stand in front of it when operating. I was caught out when the pressure increased because the log was so hard. The log just shot out due to the pressure and took me out. I ended up with a very bruised leg. I stand at the side.

Iv split 1,000s of cord,,and chunks will fly out, violently. As a matter of production. Those handles need to be joined with a made up piece and lowered to about a m, so you have a free hand to spin -split -repeat ,and a hand closer to your fly ,to deflect incoming chunks

I have my 16 ton log splitter behind my kubota 15 horsepower. Can do it easily and need less than 10 liters of diesel per day.

I have to agree with some of the other comments pertaining to the log splitter. I would seriously consider a lot of people's advice and create a guard that protects you from any of the logs that split with such force that they hit you.
Aside from the safety issue, why not put a transport box/small trailer/bucket off of one of the loaders under the log splitter so that they fall into something you can then easily use to move them to wherever they are stored? Of course, if the source and storage location are the same place, there is no need to really do that of course.

I have a similar splitter that I run off a compact tractor 25 hp brilliant peice of kit. Make sure you rings are cut square so there is no chance they slip out under pressure. The two hand thing is a pain though - I modified mine. Also have your rings at the same level as the base on a trailer base or some other platform saves bending down, just slide them accross.

Hi Olly, I know you have been looking at tractors lately, and that you are a big JD fan. Here is a video of the Grassmen looking around the new M series in 2020. It may provide you with another option. th-cam.com/video/s4qD6TWBazM/w-d-xo.html

i think that the two handled design is poor as logs tend to fly from a splitter and your body is open. so you have more chance of getting hit in my opinion.
