Yes, a sense of humor, sense of irony, and the ability to laugh at oneself and to not take oneself so seriously - these seem to be in really short supply these days, sigh.
I have to laugh that in just the past 12 hours there are comments on the "Three Composers" video suggesting Mahler and Bruckner for annihilation. Are you sure it's only 1%, Dave?
I had made a comment about composers we could live without and suggested Alessandro Scarlatti. I later deleted it myself because it was both historically wrong (having essentially formulated what Baroque opera became and without that we wouldn't have, say, the glorious operas of Handel) and generally dumb.
@@DavesClassicalGuide the coming of 1940 film Fantasia reduced classical music to entertainment. Previously it held its correct place as a major stakeholder in the development of the human spirit. But alas, one mouse changed history. In the other major part of the human spirit, science, 1000s of mice must lay down their lives for the betterment of people. Music - was diminished to merely entertainment by one mouse. The shame. The horror.
Ever notice how the classical music Canon is filled with hilarious people like Haydn, Mozart, CPE Bach, etc, but the people who record that music today are among the most lifeless, humorless nerds on the planet?
Um, no. I have no idea about the personalities of most ‘classical’ artists and neither do you. I don’t think those composers you cite are always hilarious either.
Great video Recap. I enjoyed your 7 stages of Classical music collecting as well.
I already love the recap format!
Your videos are always entertaining!
I haven't seen those first two and I will check them out.
Your videos are VERY entertaining! Insightful commentary + silly wisecracks = fun!
The TH-cam algorithm brought this channel to my attention. The Ten Dirtiest Secrets hooked me for life!
Speaking of music as entertainment, when is our next Winterreise Wednesday?
Good question. I kind of thought I'd done enough of those for the time being.

Dave?! Controversial?! Now I’ve heard it all! Hahah! Keep on listening, friends!

I am huge fan of TH-camrs who delete comments that are stupid. When I've done it, I've been criticized but I couldn't care less 😂
Neither do I.
