    What impresses me the most about these new offerings is the fact they put them out under their own name and didn't attach an artists name to it. I am so tired of all the signature gear by all of the companies in recent years. I t is almost like the big companies won't put out anything new anymore without attaching someones name to it. So thank you Marshall for being yourself this time. There are still a few of us left who strive to be original.

    Marshall… it’s about time!!!! This is what people have wanted for decades. This may bring some back who turned and went to Friedman, splawn etc. for the hot rodded tone. This is a home run. If they do the 20w and or 50w. Oh man. Take my money!!!

  • @HEZ63

    The by far best Marshall release since years or decades!
    Not so cheap, but professionally modding a 1959 or 1987 also is not.
    A year ago I had been complaining, that Marshall did not offer modded Marshalls by themselves, but left this territory completely to others and finally they really did it! Great!
    Really nails the tone and make this - anyway already iconic - amp much more flexible.

    • @ricdale7813
      @ricdale7813 9 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      When comparing with other quality Marshall like amps like Friedman,Suhr, Bogner,etc.... these amps are actually priced competitively. Not gonna lie the 59 and 800 modded series are pretty exciting.

    • @HEZ63
      @HEZ63 9 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@ricdale7813 I meant it compared with other Marshalls. Marshalls at least in Europe are comparably cheap, so the Modified Series is for a Marshall expensive, if compared with a DSL-20, 1959HW or JVM410H. The question is, what you are looking for.
      A Friedman, Suhr, Bogner I anyway never bought in Europe, as they are for me heavily overpriced, also - but not only - due to import. If they sound like Marshalls, also is debatable in my opinion. But this is a different theme.

    • @Swampster70

    • @Fnnggjji
      @Fnnggjji 10 วันที่ผ่านมา +6

      @@Swampster70a proper modded amp doesn’t need to be low watt. If they built in a solid master volume then the 100w will perform better at lower volumes than a 5w would

    • @Swampster70
      @Swampster70 10 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      @@Fnnggjji No... you still have to make the power section work to get the full sound of the amp. Sure you can get the preamp distortion but you're missing pushing the power tubes into a wonderful state of saturation. Basic laws of getting an ace lead tone. It's why guys like Schenker used 50 watt amps, so he could dime everything and get that lead tone that he did on Strangers in the Night and One Night at Budokan.

    • @Fnnggjji
      @Fnnggjji 10 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @ this is incorrect. While it may be true for a fair bit of amps. A lot of amps don’t rely on on the power tubes to be pushed for the “sound”. Friedmans are a good example of this. Dr z as well. A lot of modern amps are designed to get their tone from the preamp not the power amp.

    • @Swampster70
      @Swampster70 10 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      @@Fnnggjji It depends on your use case. If you're a typical Metalhead, you probably don't want to push the power stage too hard as you want to keep everything nice and tight. If you're getting a 1959 then you're probably not riffing meshuggah's bleed or the piercing rhythms from Metallica's ... and justice for all. James would run his Lead Drive and Master around 3 and no more, if the notes from One on One are correct, to keep things tighter than a ducks arse in cold water.
      I think we'll have to agree to disagree. I agree with comments made by Randall Smith (MESA Boogie guru and designer who I've had a chance to ask questions to at Mesa events - I live close to Petaluma and have been a long time Mesa owner) and Dave Friedman at trade shows. As good as the mods are to make the amps sound better at lower volumes, how tubes saturate when pushed and how they drive the speakers is basic laws of physics. It's like the ol' pentode / triode debate. You may choose an amp that switches to triode operation to try and get than sag / pushed feel at a lower volume but it's not the same as a pentode being hammered at mucho watts and getting sag that way. Similar but not the same.
      Marshall legends that had 'that' lead tone - Schenker, Yngwie, Angus, Gary Moore... all had the volume on their non-master amps maxed. Even now with his new amps, Michael still maxes the volume. Not sure if he still turns all the knobs to 10 like he used too. Sure with this 1959 you can get close to the Angus tone at lower volumes but you're not getting that tone without having the power section begging for mercy and using the guitars volume to adjust.
      You can get an equivalent sound at a lower volume if you're using something like a Friedman but they're not the same and you'll never get the same lead tone. With most amps, Friedman BE100 and JEL-50 are the only ones I've had any time with from Dave, they work just like any other amp. the BE has a Sat switch to try and compensate at lower volumes for the lack of saturation in the power stage and you'll notice that the bass increases as the volume increases, which is why you need to turn bass down as you go loud and need to turn the bass up and use that Thump control to get some of that low end back. Dave did a great job on that amp for quieter use, but even with the wizardry it still doesn't recreate the same singing lead tone at quieter volumes that a pushed power stage would.
      It's for this very reason I now have a small Mesa Mk V 25 rather than its big brother. On channel 1 in crunch mode with the gain at noon and volume at 2 to 3 oclock the lead tone from those baby EL84's is just like my modded Marshall 50 watt Super Lead from 72, except I still have my hearing and a good relationship with my neighbors. That said, 2 oclock on the Master on that little amp is still bonkers loud.
      But one thing that is clear, it would be sacrilege to get a 1959 and never spin that volume all the way to the right at least once. If the power section in the new 59 is the same as the old (but with added master volume) then you're probably looking at about 130 to 140 watts (if you meter the output). Cut back on the gain and and drive it like the original and it will be a bonkers experience.

    Man, I was leaning towards the JCM 800 Modified more. But after hearing this video the plexi actually sounds pretty current. Definitely getting Van Halen vibes, but not just VH1. The ending song really kinda got to that Unlawful Carnel Knowledge/ Balance Territory, which is sooo SICK! Sounds like a soldano but way more raw and open. It definitely sounds more HiFi then a lot of the modded plexis you hear. Which is perfect in recording and live! Another problem with modded plexis, is a lot of dudes just wanna sound like the early VH1 brown sound. Cool, but it's been done. Again, this sounds pretty current and HiFi. I love it! But I am torn between the JCM 800 and the Plexi. Praying for a lottery win.

      For some context, what Marshall has done here is basically a lightweight version of the Jose mods. If you want to hear what this amp would sound like with a hotmod, just listen to some clips of an original Jose modded amp and you’ll get the idea. Love it! The sound of Rock, period. One question, on the outro jam, which was awesome by the way, there was some delay on the solo. Where did you add that in, as there isn’t an effects loop?

    The idea behind these (expensive) amps is to keep the Marshall brand in good standing. That way they can sell more Bluetooth speakers and headphones. Speakers and headphones is where they make almost all their money.

    oook and now a Studio Collection version of it with a load to use headphone or to go directly in the audio interface without hear your playing with the cab. As Blackstar emulated output.

    When I'm rich enough to buy a house a 1/2 mile away from my neighbour, I'll buy one of these. But until then the 1959, which was always much more than 100 watts, will just be way too loud. Even my old (from 1972) 50 watt Super Lead was way too loud, even for pubs when the volume was cranked.
    But I do love the concept of this amp. Maybe a sub 20 watt version would be awesome.

    with that master volume situated where it is, how do you jump the channels? These mods on the Studio vintage would be awesome too.

    Sounds very good, unfortunately too expensive for me. Sticking with my Ceriatone Chupacabra, which is very similar. But i like the product and it is nice that finally after all this time, Marshall is doing a José-Mod themselves.

    Hoping Marshall will reply here; can you please specify where the Master is in the gain stage. MV Marshall amps of the 70s and 80s have pregain MV, in more recent times Suhr and Friedman have put this after the power gain stage.

    let me preface this by saying I'm a huge Marshall fan, I have three of their amps (and I'd have more if I had the funds), I've been to the factory, I'm something of a Marshall fanatic. Just so I don't get the "ur just a hater" comments.
    The amps sound phenomenal and it was about time y'all caught up, but the price tag is just atrocious, especially given how most of these mods are not *that* labor intensive and people have been doing them for parts+service fees for decades. The 1959HW is 1900€, and I'm guessing the people making those will be modding that amp and getting this amp. Hell, even if you make a completely new design (which would be silly), THREE THOUSAND SIX HUNDRED euros is just insane. If I buy a brand spanking new 1959HW and have those exact mods done by a reputable technician (and make no mistake, these mods are far from some quiet kept secret, everyone's been doing them for years, I even have a few on my JVM like the bright cap), I'd still probably have about 1500€ to spare.
    So either y'all are out of your mind, or you really want to downsell people the 1959HW 😂
