Yes , you can't get closer than this just playing 'on the fly'.... On the Album, every guitar track is mixed quite different ( Donn Landee - engineer) So you can't obviously do that live... Eddies other guitar (Ibanez Destroyer)used on about 5 or 6 songs has a different sound from the Frankenstrat ... so yes, a superb job considering it was done in real time (Not 30 days) and only 1 guitar was used. Most Excellent!
Jacob, you should have a million followers; you should be on tour with Sammy and Michael. You don't deserve success; you have earned it. There isn't a single person on this planet who can emulate Ed's sound and style like you. It's like all those who say they played Eddie's rig, but it sounded nothing like him. They said a majority of his tone came from his fingers... you have those fingers. You are one of the greatest. Your day is coming. 🙏
Would never happen ! these guys are above everyone, and thats sad ! There's been a few big stars that did hook up with internet sensations, but these guys standard would never think or do this ! it wont happen, but if it could ??????? AL, and Jacob, and steel panther singer Mike star ! and Mike Anthony ! and then you'd have VH 1 !
Alex is working on a bunch of Eddie’s unreleased music, and he said he’s considering A.I. to come up with guitar solos. I think Alex should ask Jacob to do it instead, bcuz NOBODY on earth is close to emulating Eddie like Jacob is. It’s a no-brainer!
As much as we love Satriani, Jacob should be on the tour with them. If Alex would get out of the hunch and joined back along with Deraps I think we could capture Van Halen once more in this lifetime 🤟
No doubt Deraps is talented and nails the sound but according to Sammy, there’s thousands of session players who can play every EVH song note for note with the exact tone but he still chooses Satch over them because he prefers Satches feel
As good as Jacob is, Satch was chosen because he is well known. Just like why AC/DC chose Axl to replace Brian on tour. You cannot bring in a tribute player and command the top ticket prices.
as much as I love Van Halen and everything Eddie did, do we really want to "capture" Van Halen all over again? It's already been done. Like the Barenaked Ladies song lol.......
I love how you simplied the whole EVH tone chasing saga. People love to make it so unobtainable because it's so complicated and he sprinkled magic dust on everything. You just nailed it in the most minimal way. Spot on man. You sound great🔊😊👌
After watching this about 20 times, I'm completely blown away by Ice Cream Man. Jacob is the equivalent of Mark Wahlberg's character in Rock Star at the beginning of the movie when he's telling the guitar player about the missing squeal. Jacob has every single nuance, the bends, the vibrato, the tone, the mutes, the picking. It's uncanny, and I don't care what anyone says, there's nobody that comes this close.
Incredible playing! Van Halen`s first record is by far their best in my opinion. I remember when it first came out and how everybody was blown away by Eddies playing. Nobody ever heard anything like it. Every song on that record is great. I think Jamie`s Cryin, Little Dreamer and Aint` Talking Bout Love are my favorites. You can`t beat that, Runnin With The Devil riff though. WoW, really enjoyed this video, thank you so much!
This has to be one of the most accurate and articulate recreations of the brown sound I have come across on TH-cam. Spot on. AND….his playing is as true to the records as you can get. Outstanding. Very well done!!!! I suspect this video will end up ranking at the top of any brown sound search.
been following your channel for some years now and you never fail to make my jaw hit the floor, you're an incredible player period but you have the evh brown sound down to a science!
Just fantastic! Back in the day (about 20 years ago) I made a bit of a stir on the old Plexi Palace forum with a couple EVH clips I did with a stock 1968 50w plexi. That was before it was "properly" established that you could do EVH with just a cranked plexi and nothing more. Fun times!
New award for the closest VH tone ever. Holy crap. I closed my eyes and AB'd this and the isolated track and started struggling to tell the difference. WOW dude.
Perfection Jacob! This makes the most sense too - mic placement! First album, mixed more directly in front of the cone, second album - more off-center! Also, you all should check out Jacob's first album! Killer tunes, and tone!
Wow amazing job man. Never thought Ed's tone would be so accessible like it is these days it's crazy, then put it together with a talented guy like yourself and it's pure magic. Must be like a dream to hear that come out of the amp from your fingers, as a kid from the 80's I didn't think it could ever be duplicated and here we are. Love it.
Amazing Tone...totally nailed it....Superb playing...remember hearing the album back in 1978 and we all wanted to throw our guitars in the bin!...you are doing Ed proud.
Hey buddy, you should have a million likes on this video. I actually thought Eddie was in the room. You're an amazing player. Keep up the good work thanks
WOW! This completely blew my mind! I couldn't tell the difference, your sound and playing is just like Eddie! Hats Off! Deep respect my friend! I thought I was listening to the original recordings! WOW! Bravo!!!
Damn dude. It makes my day when you post a video. You attack the fretboard like very few Iv'e ever seen. But, you do it with superior rythmn and finger dynamic control. Amazing, I love it. Add in your historical appreciation and technical knowlege and curiosity. I love it!
Hi Thank you for this video. As lot of people here I think you should play with the Van Halen remaining People at least for a celebration words tour. I think you are One of the guitar player that has inside the evh Legacy . Alex call this guy, look all his early videos end catch the joy and the happiness he took playing Edward music!
OK, it's settled. Jacob is THE man when it comes to truly sounding like Eddie while playing Ed's stuff. Now, we need someone who can write new EVH music!
Thanks for sharing your process with us! Kind’ve refreshing that you don’t have to do anything crazy to gear wise to get a sound as close to Eddie’s as this. Nice tip about the buffer pedal, I’m going to have to try that.
Awesome playing as always! 🤘 I still remember the faces of my friends when I’ve got my first SLP and just dimed it with my Frankenstein replica, they were not prepared for the face melting tone (and volume) that these amps have.
Love your channel Jacob !.............and playing ! hihi ! Stopping by to say that on a Tone-Talk Episode with George Lynch , he said that two of his friends have blown their Plexi because of the Ox . Now you know.
I don't think it's possible to get closer than this. Fantastic work.

He's spectacular, but so is Tom Shreds.
@@christopherdunn317 Perfect lineup!!!
I’m honestly so speechless that tone is phenomenal 🔥
I'm The One gave me goosebumps.... it was that good. Nobody captures the spirit of Eddie better than you. Keep sending us these incredible vids Jacob.

Let’s get @Jacob Deraps to 100K. He deserves the credit for his great playing.
Babe wake up deraps dropped a new video

I thought I was listening to the isolated track first five seconds in, Damn you got it spot on man

Dude! The tone, the sound and playing is spot on. I close my eyes and it's Edward playing, such an awesome job for sure.

You always had the best EVH sound on youtube, since you were a teenager. It is in your fingers!
Great sound 👍🏻. I think the reverb adds to the authenticity

Playing Van Halen is about the way you use your hands and fingers, not so much effects...
You demonstrate this very well!
Man, you absolutely nailed it, you've got THE tone!
Your tone is absolutely insane man. Killer
Holy smokes that was phenomenal!!
I closed my eyes and heard Eddie playing these songs that I’ve heard a million times! you are the real deal….!!!!

Easily the greatest recreation of Eddie’s tone I have ever heard

Stopping by to say that on a Tone-Talk Episode with George Lynch , he said that two of his friends have blown their Plexi because of the Ox . Now you know.
Stellar! So awesome!
