Probably even those who've seen this movie don't remember the story, but they likely remember this scene. Doug Kershaw is memorable and just plain cool.
The Firesign Theater wrote the Zachariah screenplay to match "Siddhartha" by Hermann Hesse, character for character & scene for scene. My friends & I noticed when we first saw Zach in Westwood. We spoke with Firesign at a performance a few months later at UCLA during a Q & A with the audience & they confirmed. Peter Bergman (bank teller, robbery scene) said Siddhartha was "a timeless story, so naturally we used it." A brilliant homage. Great art. Book & movie. Rock-n-roll will never die. Peace.
for those who doesnt know, type " Doug Kershaw - Ballad of Job Cain (from Zacharia soundtrack) " in the search field, and get the full song (posting direct link doesnt work for some reason)

I love Doug Kershaw. I guess this is where I discovered him---when I saw the movie in 1971.
Zachariah! Zachariah! Doug Kershaw at his best! Film maker's art at it's best!
When I first saw the film, I thought it was Marty Feldman!
I recall when the movie came out. First time I saw Doug Kershaw. Bought the album later that he played this song on. Early 70s, I think.
Best part of movie. Also I remember Elvin Jones and James gang clear guitar.
DK good acting too.
OMG it's Warren Ellis's grandfather!
lots of good R&R, but this is my memory from the movie...1st exposure to Doug Kershaw...stuck with me
