It's because H.264 is a highly compressed file, while ProRes is much less compressed. More compression = more time it takes to compress the video project :) Hope that makes sense!
Thank you for the great information! I've been usng the "Computer" setting for exporting but, I'm going to try out the H.264 next time. My problem is playback after exporting / testing just a 2-1/2 minute 5.3k GoPro Hero 10 video from FCPX. I'm not using this video for TH-cam, I just want to use it playing off of an external Seagate 2TB 3.0 portable HD for other devices & 4k TV's. I've tried both ProRes 422 (50gb's) & ProRes LT (33gb's) when exporting from FCPX. ProRes LT is better, but still hesitates some. I've tried this on a couple external drives.... Obviously, these drives are too slow to keep up. I want to maintain the highest quality possible for export to these external HD's. Playback is great on my M1 Max MacBook Pro and my Pegasus R6 24TB. Question if you don't mind; Do you know what would be the best export settings for playback using these HD's for maintaining the highest quality? Only solution I can think of would be to drop the project down to 4k but, I believe using the right export setting would be the solution. Thanks again for sharing your video! Great job!
its 2am in Texas and I been up trying to export. Thank you. You are the MVP. I almost cried
I know that feeling!! Glad I could help!! :)
Do you know why my video when watching on tv it looks too bright, yellow and orange a little bit. Buat watching in phone is same color like i edit
This was so helpful. Your instructions were clear (and not too fast!) thank you so much!
I'm so glad! Thanks for watching! :)
Excellent video! Thank You.
I have a one hour video and with these settings Im seeing it tells me the file will be 55gig? that doesn't seem right?
Hmm no that seems too big. Is your video codec set to H.264?
If the video has chapters, how can a thumbnail be inserted, for each chapter? Otherwise TH-cam defaults to the same thumbnail for each chapter.
Why does H.264 take so much longer to export compared to ProRes? Currently using a 2023 16” MacBook Pro M2

@@NickKendall Yes it does, thank you!
How to set how many Mbps in rendering? I am DR and Premiere user, mu editor can't set mbps rate in FC
Yeah, FCP doesn't give you the option for bitrates. But you can adjust the codec (H.264, ProRes, etc) for different quality and file sizes.
Great Job! After 70 uploads this is a game changer!
Glad it helped! :)
I wish there was a way to set up a preset at a lower resolution.
You can! When you add a new preset, under format select Apple devices or computer and you'll be able to adjust the resolution :)
Is it normal for the (SD HD and 4K) cards to show up when you upload a video on youtube?
Yes, that's normal while it's being processed by TH-cam :)
@@NickKendall oh okay sweet!:) wasn’t sure if i was doing something wrong or not ! Thank you!:)
Would H.264 also give the best audio quality? Also, would you mind putting what kind of camera you use in the description box? Thanks for the info!
Great question; yes H.264 is perfect when it comes to audio for TH-cam! And the camera I use the Sony ZV-E1 :)
I exported at 4k, 60fps, and the final product is zoomed in. I'm not sure why...
Nick, can you tell me what kind of monitor you have?
Yeah! I have an LG 38wn95c :) I have a couple of other videos where I talk about it.
@@NickKendall thanks!

Cheers man!
Nick Kendall!,Thanks for posting this video
Thanks for watching! :)
Super insightful, thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Would you use a similar export for other social media channels?
Yep, I use basically the same settings when exporting TH-cam shorts and Instagram reels :)
Thanks for this video, it was really helpful
Glad to hear that! :)
Thank you sir
No problem! :)
good to know!
🙌

Do you realise that your project is in MOV???? TH-cam only allow MP4 how do u upload in MOV file to TH-cam!!!
TH-cam allows MOV, that's the only format I ever upload :)
