  • Good day everyone!! Time to look at a couple hives and see what the bees are up to. While I'm in, I do a couple of mite washes to see if we have a varroa mite infestation, as well as take a look at current stores and populations. Take a walk with me to the bee yard and let's see what we have.

    Thanks for the video Mike. Just noticed you got a new pickup truck. I know you had a lot of miles on the old Ford. You must have had a good honey crop. LOL Have a good week and thanks for the shout out on the creamed honey.

    • @MikeBarryBees

      That ford broke a lifter roller at 308K. It was 13 to 15 for a motor repair or replace and while the truck was in pristine condition, still had a lot well used parts on it that had yet to go out. Plus the electronics were getting harder to get should the computer or FICM fail later. Mo money you know. So I took the money for a new motor and put it down in the Ram. Had it just over a year now. I had to look at retirement and what I’d need for that. Rodney Middleton bought the Ford. He’s a diesel mechanic and has a 6.0 in his shop to make one good out of two partly bad motors.

    Thanks for the video. Do you harvest any of that fall flow? After 2 years of selling it, I have customers clammering for it. In town (Coppell) i get a good amount - probably 50 lbs per colony. In the country I dont get much if any. Take care.

      I harvested some last year, but it was not very good. I have a couple supers out this year just for fun and I’ll see how it tastes. I got some about 8 years ago and it was delicious. We rarely get it, but the two times I did, one was great, the other was awful….beats me🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

    You are the only other beekeeper that I have ran across that actually harvests pollen, pollen has good value to it and it's easier to collect then honey. 😁
    I have about 10 lbs. in my freezer. I use a round dehydrator to dry mine, I add in extra screens on the racks so it doesn't fall through. Thanks for sharing your day Mike, Blessed Days...

    • @MikeBarryBees
      @MikeBarryBees  2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I do the very same thing DC. I added screens to the trays. Works ok, but if I decide to really grow the pollen side of it, I’ll have to get a larger dehydrator. I could use a better one anyhow for our canoe trip meals.

    I stopped the video to write you what I sell the best and the old way of doing it. Half a jar of semicristalized honey and the other half pollen. And then rotate it for a month.. one day on top, one day normal. Every morning let's say. It's done this way to give time to the honey to break the pollen envelop. You can't just mix it if you want it to work like it should. It's my grandma recipe. At the end there will be a spoon of foam to scoop up.
    I sell most of it to men who had some prostate problems. They just sweeten their tea in the morning with a spoon of it and swear it's all normal now. I drink it as my mourning tea for years now.
    You can change the % and do other combinations. Some people like propolis in it too. I had so many costumers that I had to buy a pollen collector for almost every hive I have. Tourists love it. Specifically the one who like to rave party. I think they can't eat much so they live on my pollen and milk for a week 😅. I wish you have it easy like here.. l can buy plastic bottom pollen collectors for a low price

    • @MikeBarryBees
      @MikeBarryBees  2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      So what would you call this? I guess I’m asking what do you market it as? Does it ferment? Is that the foam you’re talking about? I’m willing to try anything new and healthy to sell and consume. I thinking it’s a pollen cream sauce of sorts??

    When I would use Apiguard in the Fall, I always would see slabs of brood like you saw in the upper box of that beetle trap hive. Downstairs would be the same as well. The queens laid eggs everywhere for me when I used that treatment.

    • @MikeBarryBees
      @MikeBarryBees  2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yea, she is ramping back up good and the hives that had the brood ramped up incredibly since their treatments. I’m pleased and definitely pleased with the mite counts. Very random counts, but I saw good results last time I used apiguard.

    I had some disappointing mite counts Sunday so I will be ramping it up with the treatments. If it stays like it is, I will likely do apiguard. I’ve always had good luck with it. OA through the fall and winter and PRAYER! 🙏🏽

    • @MikeBarryBees
      @MikeBarryBees  2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yea, it’s been a good treatment for ease and effectiveness. I’ll do the same and I also pray for my bees and the operation. I hope you get them knocked back. If it’s too hot, try 35ml three times. But just bee careful since it slows the queens down a lot.

  • @researcherAmateur
    @researcherAmateur 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

    These is still too much capped brood for the wash to be accurate

    • @MikeBarryBees
      @MikeBarryBees  2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I don’t think so. There was uncapped as well and plenty of it as I searched for queens. Our mite peak is now and the last month, so even with a lot of brood, a heavy infestation would show up this late regardless of a lot of capped brood. Could there be a lot under the caps? Possibly, but if it were bad and the apiguard didn’t work, I’d see a good count in the mites as other are seeing with amitraz resistance after treatment. Not saying they still can’t have an issue later on, but with low counts in September after the dearth and the summer slow-down, an infested colony would’ve shown some mites. A clean-up in December will do them some good.

    • @researcherAmateur
      @researcherAmateur 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@MikeBarryBees yes, you could be right. It would still show more. Yeah, I agree.. you know what you doing. Maybe a control at the end of it all.. but there would be more holes in the caps, you're right
