With you Mike - do what you're gonna do, I'll do what I'm gonna do and they can do what they're gonna do or not do. Been leaning towards using apiguard later this fall myself. Like Bob Bennie I'm doing maintenance treatments to keep the mite numbers down so they never get high. Management that results in healthy hives and overwintering success works for me. Yeah that humidity is like breathing water instead of air.

Obviously you don't have Russian Queens. My Russians are the nicest bees you could want, I can stand right by the hives and watch them all day and they won't bother me at all. But boy when you open up the hive at all they are on you in a flash even if you smoke the hive.

Hey Mike, I agree with you that everyone should keep an open mind about how they manage their bees. Its been hot/humid up here in Pa near Philly. The heat and humidity zaps the life out of me as well.

About time for me to treat as well. Not sure if you caught Greg’s talk at the NCSBA conference but he uses 35 gm and said he believes that is the sweet spot. Of course those of us using the foil packs find it hard to gauge that dose. Colonies looking good!

Is this "All you need to know about treatments" video ? 😎 Mike, in my experience everyone with 3+ years of beekeeping under their belt.. with reasonable survival rates thinks "I'm a great beekeeper. I'm gonna teach you now". There's nothing to learn anymore.. l know how to"... Specially after they have a good honey year. They become the best.. and it's like that everywhere. I'm watching it all my life. It spreads and after it even when you try to help them they won't listen because now they know better.. So there's no use in arguing. I usually write what I already tried and how it worked for me.. and if it helps someone good for them. There's way too many opinions without trying it , on YT.

if only people dealt with life that way. Good strategy, that's what I love about the bee keepers i watch, they have their way, they show it and they leave it...bee😜 Thanks for sharing!!

Thanks Mike. I love seeing how you do it in the south. I use brood breaks (queen cage) and thymol. And sugar water mister. The sugar water gets the bees cleaning each other and the hive. Many valid points. And to each their own.

Emily from beefit came out today we made up 44 nucs . She's definitely fit by the time I cut some pallets to size she's got the truck unloaded brood and honey frames all spread out perfect. I just had to drop it in the brood and food .. by the time I got that dropped in she got the queens installed. I didn't even say how I wanted like she could read my mind. 20 minutes we did 44 nucs .. she is one impressive young lady true credit to humanity just rear these days. Her story powerful really brings me faith in our Lord to be honest. That one there going to be a major player in the bee industry give her 20 years.. she will earn every bit of it

Hello Mr. Mike I am planning on using the Apiguard this year again just to try . I think it was three years ago I used it an got bad results BUT I Just thought I would try one more time. I do not know if I got a bad batch or if it was something I did or what ever I do not know. I will for sure do a follow up with OAV that I know it works but I already know it will take several treatments an that is all right with me. . I have seven supers left to pull an that will be all mine . I have been doing my inspection an checking queens as I finish pulling . I picked up another bee yard last Tuesday an planning on moving bees next week after inspection and treatments . I have five I plan on splitting this week an that will be part of the ones I move . Always really enjoy your time in your Bee yard or whatever’s going on. Thanks

Hey Mike! When I use Apiguard I put it in the box farthest from the door. I want them to carry it out using the longest distance possible. I also don’t use it past 88 degrees and I watch what the heat index is…just how it use it. As for the OA extended release, I use those absorbent pads and not those Swedish towels. The bees chew up the towels and get it out to fast. They don’t or can’t do anything to the pads and you want that OA to stay in the box as long as possible. That’s how I do it 🤷🏻‍♂️

Treatment or treatment free? I use +32 windshield wash year-round in my truck. My brother uses 0F windshield wash in his truck. I'm in Texas. He's in Indiana. As you said, we each do what works for us where we are! Environment, genetics, goals, production, time... all significant factors in varroa impact.

Agree 100% with you on the treatment opinions. We have a large push in our local club to be treatment free and me and another beekeeper have expressed concerns for the new beekeepers starting out and expense of loses if not treating. Give our opinions to get 2-3 years under them and then go treatment free if they want. Always enjoy your videos. Thank you!!!

I treated yesterday without mite checking, but there's always mites, .i used OA /glycerin dribble .. I've had good success with that just doing it 1 to 2 times per year & I've used a weak OA solution mix, so in my opinion it doesn't take anything super strong to knock em down...I bought everything to do OA Extended release, but havnt had time to make them up..

Mite checks don't check where the mites are anyway. 90% of them are under the cappings

I Love how you always say... This is not a How To video. This is a How I Do video. I too use what I like to call my Faith from Buffy the Slayer method... 5x5. When asked how she's doing Faith says 5x5. 5 treatments 5 days apart. Then in November when it's Cooler... Formic Pro 1 strip for 10 days then repeat. Then again in early Spring.

ha mike the oae release is going to be availabe in aug for almost 90.00 double deeps u can do if i figured it right 7 hives. it is going to be very pricey I used the apigaurd this year I like it i did 1//2 doses it worked great. I have 1 more treatment to do with it, life is good. good video hope every thing works out good for u. Have a very blessed week
