    This may have been said elsewhere, but has Joerg considered using different cams which don't have such an abrupt fall-off? If you're using your weight to draw it, the draw force is pretty constant, and since he put a lock on it, it doesn't need to be so light at full draw. Also it looked awkward to have such a jerk downwards (and the rail almost jabbing one's stomach) when the resistance suddenly fell.

    • @john-paulsilke893
      @john-paulsilke893 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed. This is a very small hole in his ethos of design. He’s a big strong guy, (I am as well so I definitely understand) and many of his designs reflect this rough and ready attitude. Also let us not forget he’s often making a quick and dirty tool/weapon.

    • @solarissv777
      @solarissv777 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      alternatively, adding a stirrup on the bottom of the contraption and some rubber bands could allow to use even stronger bow. Basically invest energy on pulling the bow back with your legs and back muscles, and retrieve it when pushing down (especially it would help on the initial stage of the string drawing). This solution would allow to have draw weight even higher, then shooter's own mass.

    I'd feel nervous with Jörg's bow, with the end coming up towards my face as I push down and those handles looking a tad shaky. Perhaps with slightly longer, connected levers?

    a portable trebuce that fires steel ball bearing at 300 fps or more . Like a tiny version you can carry around . That is what you should make and of course a rubber banded Ballista .

    I thought Jorge's bow was double barrelled for a second
    As for a joint project a version of a seige weapon or find a way to recock a medieval style crossbow like a windlass without needing to remove the cocking device

    • @2bingtim
      @2bingtim 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The screw-worm in the stock crossbow would do that. I know it's in Payne-Gallaway's "Crossbow" book but wouldn't be surprised if Tod's already done it a while ago.

    • @ricasteli
      @ricasteli 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@2bingtim if it's similar to the "assassin's crossbow" it would be very ineffective. Not having to remove a part is only a bonus if it doesn't increase loading time

    • @2bingtim
      @2bingtim 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ricasteli The advantage you're missing is that if it's intrinsic to the bow, you can't lose or get stolen the cocking device. It's basically a long threaded rod that goes right through the stock from the butt, ending in a claw to engage the string. A kinda large wing-nut at the butt is what you wind up/down to allow the claw to reach & engage the string, then wound up until it cocks the string at the nut. Not terribly fast to use I'd think, but probably similar to cranequins or windlasses. I'd guess a lever-system built into the stock would be best for speed.

    What a joy to see these 2 weapon giants together. Interesting to see Tod handling Joerg's weapon much better than vice versa. Could mean Tod has the better instant understanding of unknown weapons, based on his superior craftsmanship. Could also mean Joerg has built the much better weapon that works for anyone, based on his superior engineering.

    The dual bow design helps with the archer's paradox, whereas the wooden one has the string pulling off them line of fire. I would think Jeorgs would have less wear on the string.

    I've got an idea for you - as we all know we've recently been plagued by dragons, and as we also know they tend to have a fairly thick hide and can fly, so naturally, the only logical conclusion, as we've seen in various documentaries on the subject, like The Hobbit, dragon-slaying is most effective when employing the cunning use of a heavy-caliber stationary weapon. Therefore I propose you build a magazine-fed, rapid-fire ballista. Preferably one that can traverse 360° and elevate 90°. Because modern dragons are tougher than the ones our forefathers battled back in the fantasy days, I'd say it should have a removable magazine/drum to ensure a high volume of fire, and of course, it should have an anti-aircraft "spider sight", this is important because of all sights used on weapons this size, the spider sight is by far the coolest looking one. And I loved your video, two of my favorite TH-camrs in the same video, what a treat, and stay safe.:-)
