    4:10, a fighter scared out of their mind before a fight: GSP. Arguably the GOAT. Still got scared before each fight but overcame his fears and went on to succeed.

      Mike Tyson said he was so scared before his fights he used to literally have to vomit in the locker room. But once he stepped into the ring, his mind just switched, and we all know how that looked like.

      Yes, but GSP’s biggest fear was failing/being embarrassed - he said once the fight started he was fine/in his element.

    I can't wait for the coming generations of grappling, there will be many individuals that are levels better than Ryan. just based on the popularity of grappling/mma rising, we'll be privileged to witness superior athletes choosing combat sports over traditional sports.

      Isn’t that also just the current state of bjj though? I used to compete in pro mma and have my bjj blackbelt and love rolling, but I can’t sit and watch bjj. I’ve tried to get into watching it. It reminds me of baseball how I loved playing it as a kid, but can’t sit and watch it. I used to enjoy watching bjj when marcelo garcia was competing. Maybe it was more takedown/top game oriented.. idk

      Roger has won many no gi tournaments- in their prime Roger wins Gi or No gi, but Gordon would have the best chance of beating Roger

      @@rxnupe Do you think he could win via submission? Most guys just beat gordon on points. They don't engage. But Roger goes for the kill and that might open him up to leg locks. I wish we could see that match up, traditional jiu jitsu vs modern progressive jiu jitsu.

      @@da1stlangzai Yes I see Roger tapping Gordon Ryan. Keep in mind they say Roger has not been tapped since he was a Blue Belt and that's a great accomplishment. Ryan lost once by tap to Pena who is good, but no where close to Roger's level.

      @@rxnupe Yea that's a good point. Pena beat him the 2nd time too pretty convincingly. But how come his style of Jiu jitsu doesn't seem effective in MMA. Marcelo and Galvao both dabbled in MMA but their jiu jitsu didn't seem that effective. Maia who's less accomplished than all 3 of the guys i mentioned runs through guys if he can get them down.

      @@da1stlangzai I think it's because everyone trains in BJJ to some extent. You have to have some type of stand up game as a striker even if your BJJ is top notch.
      for example, Kron Gracie has top notch BBJ, but lost to Cub Swanson who is a far better striker.

But not the other 50% the leg lock game. Why ignore 50% of the human body. I think Lister said that. Gordon is definitely more well rounded than Garcia. He can do everything really well.

    what makes Gordon or Roger so superior is what makes Magnus Carlson superior.....they see steps/moves ahead of their competitors. it is without a doubt an advantage. another analogy is a stockbroker who has insider information on a stock. Gordon/Roger/Magnus/Rickson have insider information on their opponents.
    How to get insider information??? not more or hard training, BUT more specific/thoughtful/purposeful training, when training use your brain not brawn

      Gordon is extremely unathletic, Marcelo is better, Roger is better, Raf Mendes is better, Ciao Terra is better...this may be Gordon’s time for sure but labeling him GOAT is inaccurate unless GOAT is to mean “Greats Of All Time”

    He is the greatest of all time in a sport that wasn't a thing 30 years ago. And still the talent pool is relativly small compare to other grappling sports.
    The old school guys submitted people at no weight class, no time limit, no holds fight tournaments. Ju-jutsu used to be a grappling heavy fighting style.
    Bjj used to be self defense and vale tudo based.
    I respect the sport, i respect the athletes, but we shouldn't call great fighters less skilled grapplers.
    Could Gordon Ryan stand hours with Kimura or Sakuraba in a vale tudo fight? Will Gordon Ryan be able toss around youngster with perfectly executed throws when he will be a feeble old man?
    Is he the GOAT submission grappler or only if the rules highlights his grappling?

    unpopular opinion Craig jones is a better grappler... gordon clearly cheats and takes steriods. and in his match with craig jones jones had an armbar right at the end but ran out of time. then gordon won when he was gifted Craig's back
