Think this one will stay fairly standard but restored. Think a crazy MX5 project is coming in future though. Already feeling familiar with all it's pipes and wires. Will see how well when we put it back together.
Hey Dylan, its charly. I watched an engine rebuild in zimbabwe. Personally I probably would try and have done that and tried to replace the specific parts. Gonna be honest tho swapping the engine out is a lot less hassle and finicky, less things to go wrong. Save your back and get an engine hoist 😂. I see you've got one already though.
Hi Charly!! What was the car in Zimbabwe? Yes, i got the hoist ready for the drop. Have transmission jack on the way too. Lift is going to make life easier than most i've seen changing them.
Change the pcv valve and hose while its out, mad not to, costs about £30 for both bits! the hose splits at about 90K and its a pig to do with the engine in, ask me how I know! (sits right below and behind the intake manifold)
Excellent advice mate thank you very much. Will definitely do that. Think I'll renew as many hoses and ancillaries as possible where they're cheap. I can guess how you know :) Let me know if anything else occurs. We have engine out now so will be dropping a new vid soon. We're at nurburgring just now so finishing the job next week hopefully
@@KeepEmRunnin9 Do the thermostat too, they go about the same time, had both to do on the wife's 1.8 08 model. I have two 2.0 NC2s so have subscribed as I want to see how you guys get on👍
@@KeepEmRunnin9 The only known other failure point is the coolant header tank but you can do that anytime, if its yellowed and brittle the neck splits and a overheat is likely, common cause of engine failure on these, Oh, and I recommend the upgraded dipstick (mk2) as its so much easier to read the oil level as the MK1 is a pain to get a clear indication.
I think you should do the tyres and I personally would love a garish insane colour. Hoi!

Hoi!
New wheels and an LSD post engine swap!
Probably not the LSD for this one but feel an NC track weapon in my future so will be a must

Thanks again. Will take your advice again as you clearly are qualified with 3 NCs. Thanks for the subscribe!

Funny you mention that dipstick.. already noted how hard to tell what level is. Thanks again!
4 into 1 stainless exhaust manifold and sports cat could give you an easy extra 20bhp
Hmmm that's an interesting idea... thanks for the suggestion. Think we'll do that
You mentioned cambelt . Are the mk 3 not chain??
Hi. Yes you are right. I didn't realise until we took the rocker cover off the old one. I had a mk1 in the past which I think is belt? so assumed same
