I'm a new counselling student and keeping a journal is a requirement for my course. Thanks so much for your tutorial. I found it really easy and straight forward. i already keep a personal journal and have found myself reflecting a lot as to how i deal with my toddler. Now to applying this new found method :). Very helpful. Thanks again.
I am currently doing a Diploma in Psychological Counselling and Journal writing is part of the course. This Video has definitely made it easier to write and to understand the importance of the journal writing in relation to the course.
I am from Africa and where I come from we speak French and lingala . I find it difficult sometimes to write a reflecting journal in English. Most of your video have helped me pass my exam and this video also gave me a clear idea how to write a journal. Thank you for sharing :)
I am from India, and I journal in English but sometimes it gets a little harder to write in English for me as well. At those times, i switch to my mother language (HINDI) and continue the process. I'll advice you to do the same. If you find it harder to journal in English, Switch to the language you are most comfortable with.
I didn't realise just how much I loved writing my reflective journals until I qualified. My recommendation is to immerse yourself in the process of writing them. Once you don't have to do them any more you may wish you'd made more of this part of the process. 😊
I loved this information it helped to relax my mind on how to write a reflective journal. I've written about my experience of life for many years but having started studying counselling this year 2014 I needed to know the correct way to write my journals. Many thanks Rory
This is the first resource that has really helped me with keeping a reflective journal and it especially helped me to reflect on and understand why it has been a difficult thing for me to get to grips with in the past. I think this will make a huge difference as I embark on my level 4 Diploma. Thank you for this.
I am in my practicum for my Master's in Counselling Psychology. I LOVE the music! And your explanation of reflective journalling was bang on simple and clear! THANKS SO MUCH for making my practicum life easier :)
Thank you very much! I have actually done this for myself through my life, but I didn't realize the connection with this process and the idea of writing a reflective journal. Now that I know, I can use the skill I already have to complete my assignments and create a habit that will supplement my future practice. Thank you so much!
I am in the process of handing in my reflective journal, thanks to your video, I can now write more about transference and how I might be able to consider situations and learning in different ways.
English is not my first language so I appreciate your videos because they are clear and the point bullets/images are always helpful. Thank you so much.
Thank you for a really clear explanation on the process of Reflective Journal writing. It was really helpful and presented the information really clearly.
I like the topic as I have kept a journal since I began being counselled in 1992 and as I am starting my four year course with Bob, this is something I would like to know to do properly so thanks, a good topic of video
thanks Rory, I can always count on you to tell it as it is. I have just embarked on my Level 4 Counselling course, and believe me you will be my first port of info when needed. P.s intro music very Calming.
Hi Havoc_clilxy 24k, My name is William and I can certainly come in handy especially if you need help with writing your assignment(journal). I now do it fulltime because I look for people who have to balance between work and school. Let me know if I can help you by sending a sample of one I did recently. Love the music! Really good to now know how to keep a reflective journal. No-one has made it as clear as this before. Just starting a new course and this info is great. Thank you, Rory.
Great tip about written, rather than computer based journals. Haven't quite figured why, but I have a far better emotional connection with pen and paper than the keyboard and screen.
Thank you Rory I am just about to write a 2000 word essay critiquing my practice using a DVD of a recorded skills session and this video helped focus my mind in how to set about it.
Really helpful - very clear presentation and effective teaching style. Immediately I got a really useful structure. I can also highly recommend the Counselling Tutor website.
Thank you, your video was very helpful and insightful. I am taking the first tentative steps into counselling and am currently doing a counselling skills course which, although offers no formal qualification does give me a taste of what counselling is about. I hope to carry on and gain a qualification so that I may be able to practice in the future
Hey Rory I am in college Belfast am on to this Journal,I find a class mate gave me hard time so I killed her with kindness sort speak I write about this how I felt what I done is this the right way am going about this as I do not want to ask in class as drama only comes people put there pennies worth it isn’t worth even saying thanks Rory you’ve helped me so much in my Psychotherapy course,am not going on to be a counsellor but I have learnt a lot about myself 👍🏻😊💖
I can relate to everything you have said. I have just started a level 2 course but fail to understand how I put the criteria in the body of the journal. I tried to do it as a subheading but was told that is wrong. But no explanation of what is right that I understand. So much criteria to fit in. Has very paragraph got to start I am going to show today I am claiming 1.1 use counselling skills within an ethical framework and I'm going to explore features of safe practise. 2nd paragraph I am claiming 1.2 etc because it sure does not sound like a learning journal to me but this is what my tutor says. 2nd lesson and still we no wiser! Still haven’t returned work to us but emailed wrong plus loads of new work and not got one right yet. This is madness!
Hi Maria. I'm glad I've seen this as I am relating to it. I started a level 2 course last week and while the tutor is great and supportive, I am at a loss as to why how to write a reflective journal isn't included in the 1st lesson ! Seems a bit strange. This tutor is good, so I am confident it will come together, but it would save time if they just included reflective writing in the first lesson. I hope you managed to do your course.
Totally agree about handwriting. I bought a fountain pen and a really nice hardback book to make writing a more sensory activity, also to afford more status to the activity in my own mind. How do you think handwriting makes so much difference? I feel it does....but cannot think why.

Hello. I hope you reply and you're doing well. I have to write a reflective journal entry but I have guiding questions. Can you please help me understand how I can answer them and still reflect as I should? Should I answer each one in a different paragraph or...?
Hi Rory, I've recently started my Level 3 in Counselling and found your video really helpful when it came to writing my Reflective Journal. I'll be passing the link on to others in my group who had similar questions to my own regarding the journal. The music was pretty and unintrusive.
Hi Rory, Is this the same as a learning journal, as we have been asked to write something that can be used as evidence for our portfolio related to criteria assessment sheets (C.A.S) as well as our personal reflections of the class etc.
journals and learning reviews are seperate, journals are more personalised and learning reviews are more formal they show your reflective skills both within the class work and within yourself and the process you take within your learning.......if that helps!!!!
