- Live Free or Die Hard is the first Die Hard film to NOT be rated R. And it shows. There's a lot of mumbo jumbo about hacking, a pretty ridiculous car-vs-helicopter scene, and Justin Long. Oh, and it's got sins. Lots of 'em.

The “Agent Johnson” bit was supposed to be a homage to the first Die Hard movie where the agents names were both Johnson. Not a quick dick joke. *ding*

I just watched Death Wish and couldn’t put my finger on something watching it again. This is what I couldn’t put my finger on. He’s sleep walking. Makes a lot of sense now.

Killing the Helicopter with the car was my favorite scene in this otherwise ridiculous movie. In my opinion this movie and the one in Russia don’t qualify as Die Hard movies. Actually to me Die Hard movies require being stuck in one location and being pretty much one guy against an army,so really the third one isn’t really a Die Hard either since he basically has the whole freaking city as well as the entire police force to help him.

This review is the die hard 4th installment film
The next one has this title which is the 5th installment of the die hard where out of state cop maclane finds out that his own son working with the intelligence services groups - if I remember correctly it was the main central intelligence services also known as the cia for short

This film isn't perfect but if I had to choose between this and Die Hard 5, I'd take a hundred of this Die Hard over that snoozefest.
At least with this one you get a pretty intriguing plot, ridiculously fun action, a great villain (Timothy Olyphant is crazy underrated in this), Mary Elizabeth Winstead being badass, and Bruce Willis actually giving somewhat of a crap about being in this film.

Absolutely! I know DH4 got a lot of $#!t for not being rated R like the others but I liked it tons for much the same reasons you listed plus a few more.
Die Hard 5 is the first one to *really* feel like they were phoning it in and making a Die Hard just to milk it. Oddly, for all of the crazy OTT finale with the jet, I thought the rest of the movie was relatively restrained and had some pretty inventive action ideas.
@@alekesam Maybe I'm slightly biased towards 4 because, wait for it, that was the first one I ever watched, so watching the previous three was like taking the stabilisers off my Die Hard bike XD
But even today, after seeing all of them, I still stand on my 'Die Hard 4 is a good movie' mountain.
5 being even worse doesn't make 4 any better. It's still a terrible film.

Certainly not a great film, full of ridiculous stuff that John DEFINITELY should've died to. But then again, I'm pretty sure he would've died all the way back in the first film based on his injuries so kinda irrelevant at this point in the series 😂
Plus this film had all the things I mentioned in my original post which, to me, makes it a half decent watch.
5 has an action set piece in Chernobyl, and a few minutes of Mary Elizabeth Winstead (only in the theatrical cut...). That's pretty much all the praise I can give that film.

I also bought one, though independently of this movie, and yes it was completely useless. Thought it might work for LAN parties where I tend to spill beer on my keyboard, but it's too flimsy to game on.

That "Agent Johnson" was a reference to the FBI agents from the first movie. That's why John looked at him funny because of the two FBI agents whose names was Johnson from the first movie

Yeah, but there are probably thousands of Agent Johnsons or Agent Johnstons in the country. It wouldn't raise a bell just to meet one person with one of those names.
McClane never met the Johnsons though. They ended up getting blown up by Hans while McClane jumped off the roof.

I really liked Die hard, Die hard 3, and this one, and every time I hear that line no matter how many times I watch it I laugh.

I liked the part of the movie where that lady said that a fire sale was a myth and that guy responds, "Please tell me she is not in charge of anything important."
He completely missed the sin after Matt recognized Mai's voice when John was backing up to run away from the helicopter where he was turning the steering wheel but if you look through the windshield the car he's driving was still backing up straight before it actually turned. Smh.
Which school would you rather go to: Stormtrooper School for Aiming at things or the Prometheus School of Running Away From Things?

This is the first die hard movie I ever saw. Became a favorite of mine. Can quote every scene word for word. Will never forget the day I learned ON COMPLETE ACCIDENT it was part of an incredible franchise. Lol

Merry Christmas. I definitely watch movies such as Die Hard 1, 2, and Lethal Weapon as well during this wonderful festive time. The nostalgia will never leave me. It will be a part of my soul. As for Die Hard 3, I can't go a single summer without watching it as it is so good. Ah, those days. So much simpler.

after rewatching it, this movie is one of the first "post-2007 action movies" that all look and feel very similar and formulaic.
the nice little moment with the flyleaf music video is still the most memorable and probably best part of the whole movie. which is sad because the cast was good just very underutilized
I saw this movie when I was 12 years old and absolutely loved it! Since then I've realized how bad it is, but it's still one of those movies that's really fun to watch so long as you don't think about it.
Did John McClane call anyone a "dickhead" in this movie? If he did not, then there should be a sin point for that!
I always thought the 'bad guy' in this was genuinely a threat, and holy crap I never realized it was Timothy Olyphant! That just kinda makes him more a badass.

One thing I loved about the movie: it was the first movie I've seen where someone took the daughter hostage and father and daughter both recognized that doing so gave them power
Timothy Olyphant had the final standoff changed to him holding McClane hostage and subsequently getting killed when John shoots through himself. The early trailers show a different (cut) standoff

8:11 - Common misconception. The shark repellent in Adam West's Batman was not in the utility belt, it was in the helicopter itself, and Robin handed it to Batman.
That's right Robin had to hang upside down with the copter on autopilot to hand the spray to Batman who was pretty calm having his leg chewed off. Either way that was a good goofy movie. This one no where near as good. I always wanted the shark to sacrifice himself when Batman and Robin were magnetized to the bouy instead of a dolphin. Kind of a way to make up for the earlier incident.
I was expecting a bonus round for all the "we're in", typing & plugging things into sockets stuff.
The last scene of them in the ambulance when he says "Hospital" is a call back to the other movies where he tells the driver "Let's go home."
Such an under-rated movie. It really is very good.

The magic from the first three films is lost in this toned down version of Die Hard. I don’t know what “it” is, but the first three films have “it”. They just don’t feel the same as the original films.

I myself also had to get one of the rollup keyboards after seeing it in the movie. It took me roughly 2 months to type as fast as I do on a normal keyboard, and even then you have to hit the keys dead on otherwise it won't even register anything.

No amount of sins will stop me fun enjoying this ludicrously fun action movie. This is a great example of filmmakers knowing the franchise and giving its target audience exactly what they want.

All the spiders look cool and threatening until these wierd moments of gremlin noises or goofy killings, and I feel like I'm watching 2 different films. PICK YOUR TONE MOVIE! Adding 50 sins just for the uneven messiness!

1:20 I have the DVD and there are two versions. The actual verse, and the watered-down version. I prefer the actual version that goes along the last 3.
_As I push my glasses higher up my nose:_ McClane's "police radio" is an ADI AR-147 and it is _not_ a police radio but a Ham radio; plus the frequency they show is reserved for data transmissions, not voice.
Fun fact, every Die Hard movie has some Ham radios as props. We radio geeks believe someone involved in production is an Amateur Radio operator. Wait, you want more Nerd crap? 66.6 mHz is part of analog TV channel 4's frequency spectrum in North America and no commercially available consumer radio equipment can transmit on it without MAJOR modification. For 0.2% of Americans, these are sins... for the normals, not so much.

I feel that the final act of die hard with a vengeance is when John McClane turned into a super hero. I mean he fell like 70 feet onto metal and just got right up and then then the boat he was on exploded and he was fine.
That's the part where Sam Jackson turns into Nick Fury also

The biggest sin involving the F35 fighter jet is that felt the need to get that close. The aircraft was designed to fire at targets from behind the horizon. And, yes, I know the pilot chose to use its machine gun. But, he could’ve done that from a quarter a mile away if not more.

Finally! I wondered when this was going to be sinned even after 5 was out years ago. I suspected that Jeremy loves Timothy Olyphant - confirmed!
The "I'm gonna blame the movies" line is sooo jarring with Mickey's higher-pitched voice vs Gabriel's
They shoulda cast Kiefer Sutherland and called it "24: The Movie"
The whole story can be wrapped up into one day.

This movie kicked so much ass and I loved Willis with Long. I wasn't expecting this much fun in a PG-13 Die Hard like 20 years after the last one. Then they made a 5th one...with a dead Bruce Willis...and a living Jai Courtney...so boring.
This movie is a lot more fun if you watch it as an “action rom-com” (like Mr & Mrs Smith) but between Matt & JOHN McClaine. You saw “Batman & Robin” but I was seeing “Toad” from the “1st X-men movie” (in the downstairs part of the Statue Of Liberty)
Sure, McClane goes through the most insane of things compared to the last films, but he still stops to breathe and you see his pain every time. Also, so what if it's PG-13, it tells a good detailed story, the action is great, and Willis's performance is more believable than what he's done lately.

Sadly, that's one of the more realistic parts of this movie.

All the “jerk-offs” are very reminiscent of Ford Fairlane.
I work at a bank, and it can literally take days to get access when people are actively trying to get you access to a system. So, I cringe every time someone hacks a system in 30 seconds and can actually get a system to do anything.
Hell just transferring small amounts of money legally in 20fucking21 can still take several days, which is just idiotic.
